Rick Riordan Presents Pahua and the Soul Stealer (A Pahua Moua Novel Book 1) Reviews

This a sweet, fun exciting read and gives voice to a deeply underrepresented people. Pahua is a fantastic main character funny, smart, brave, and incredibly kind. Her struggles with making friends, dealing with living in two cultures, and with family are ones many can relate to.
The author's love for her family and their culture imbue every word. Please do yourself a favor and pick this book up.
Bonus the POC and casual queer representation is all anyone could ask for. -
I bought this book for my daughter and she finished it in two days. She said it was a very good book and she enjoyed it very much.

Pahua and the Soul Stealer, a book that I enjoyed but would've enjoyed during my younger years. While reading this book, I kept thinking that maybe if I was introduced to stories and books like this, I would've probably grew up enjoying reading . It took awhile but I am glad that Lori's stories were the ones that got me back into it.
The story is about Pahua, a sixth grader who goes on an adventure deep into the Spirit Realm. I enjoyed all of the Hmong myths and Lori's own twist on Hmong Shamanism. Funny enough, the story gave me similar vibes of Studio Gihbli's Spirted Away (also mentioned) and while reading, I kept telling myself 'Wow, this would make for a great animated movie”. One day, some day.
Pahua is a great role model for any young person and her road to self discovery is one that I can relate to very much, being the oldest in my family in a Hmong family as well. There were moments when the story dragged on due to how much things needed to be cover and there were times where I thought the story could've ended 75 pages earlier but the conclusion was satisfying and worth it. I strongly recommend this book to people of all ages and I hope that after reading it, you will become a little bit curious about the Hmong culture as well. -
Once I started reading, I cannot put the book down. It's very interesting.
