The first thing I want to say about this book is that it smells so good. I love opening the pages of a new book and it has a nice new bookly smell. Ahhhh, refreshing. It was printed in Dubai, so I wonder if all of their libraries smell like this? If they do, I think if I ever become rich enough, I'll go visit one.

Now to the puzzles themselves. They're difficult, and the challenge they bring is a welcome one. This is a very well made book containing a lot of classic style puzzles of logic. It even has achievement pages at the beginning of the book, so solve a puzzle, you'll claim one of the Catan resources, or roads, settlements and cities. It contains hours of mind murdering fun.

I will never ruin this book in any way. I could solve the puzzles, or get so annoyed I'll give up and look at the answer in the back of the book like anyone who just wants to get to the next page. But no matter what, a pen will never touch the insides of this excellently scented puzzle tome. If anything, I'll photocopy it and destroy my mind that way instead. It's such good quality, I really don't want to spoil it, and then I can pass it on to the next victim without any of my scribbles in it.

What I am intending to do is use the book and every puzzle for Tabletop Days I'm going to host. Perhaps have one puzzle every time our group gets together, and THEY have to work it out because I don't want to fail, so I'll just be the host explaining the rules, reading the stories, and knowing the answer as I watch my friends and family wreck their brains. I'm so cruel.

A very good book, created by Richard Wolfrik Galland, and a must for any fan of Settlers of Catan.

The puzzle book is entertaining as a phenomenon. Catan here is merely a theme, the actual puzzles have nothing to do with the franchise, of course.
I like many puzzles, BUT there's a huge problem with the proff reading of this. I'm now at puzzle 51, and so far I've found 6 typos/mistakes in the formulation of the problems. Besides the regular misprints (colours in the colour based puzzles are off, or the number of letters in a word is wrong), there are also dreadful mistakes in the descriptions.
E.g., one of the problem states that out of three carts, one contains fake coins. What does this imply to you? Correct, that at least some (>1 because "coinS") of the coins are fake. But what the writer meant, is that ALL of the coins in that cart are fake.
Further, one of the puzzles should ask about regions, not cities. The answers to the two questions are completely different.
    Etc etc etc.
These mistakes are all over the book. They render solving the puzzles impossible.
I wish they spent time proof reading this book.
