The First-Time Manager Reviews
-
I am an HR professional and currently working with an employee to get him trained up for management. This employee got SO much from this book! He is a star employee, but did not understand what it took to be a good manager, and no matter how much you told him he didn't quite get it. This book changed everything! This book was written so well that my employee feels like the author was writing just to him. I am a real critic when it comes to the quality of management books, but this one is spot on. I highly recommend for any new manager, anyone thinking about a career in management, and a manager who feels like they want to brush up on the basics to make sure their focus is in the right place

I really recommend this book if you are first time manager. There's many aspect that you can learn from this book. I wish I could read this book when I just started with my new role. Probably transitioning from a star employee to a management role would be easy If I could have a previous knowledge about what to expect being a manager.

Bought this for a recently promoted employee and have been going through it as a training guide. I would actually say it's good for some people who have been put into management without any real training.
-
This is a very practical real world introduction for new managers. Full of common sense. A down to earth approach and very readable. Talks about human behaviors as they really are and the management approaches that work.
-
I consider myself a young outgoing professional who has goals of attaining executive levels of management. I read this book as part of a Masters class and I have to say it was very interesting and informative. I'd recommend it hands down to anyone who wants to work a management job in the future or who are currently struggling in their management position today.

I purchased the Kindle version as I thought I would be promoted to a management position, but alas it didn't happen. So I changed jobs. There is so much helpful information in this book and the layout is so easy read. I have learned so much about people and their behavior and things to do and not to do when starting out and managing people even with people you don't manage, but work with only. I highly recommend.

The book itself is a great read. i found it easy to follow. im preparing for an interview for a management role, and at the very least i know I've learned valuable insight to dealing my own managers in the future.
the only reason I couldn't give this book 5 starts were because the title on the spine is printed upside down. -
I really enjoyed this book. It went over so many topics and was very concise talking about each section. I learned a lot and will use tips and ideas from this book in my start up company.

I purchased this book for 2 of my employees who have recently been promoted to Management roles. They are only about half way through at this time but the feedback is that this book is amazing! It covers everything and that a first time Manager needs to learn and know. My pick of choosing this book for them was an optimal pick on my part! 😃
