Big Joe's Trailer Truck Reviews
-
It was true in 1974 and it is true in 2017.
This book shows children EXACTLY how trucking IS - the pictures are great and spot on, the narrative is easy to read and the detail to show children how trucks are used, hooked to trailers, etc is awesome. My 83yr old CEO who has been in logistics for 60+ years LOVED seeing the accuracy in this book. It's a wonderful way to explain how their toys get to the store.
My 3yr old and I read it multiple times the day we picked it up. 80 years between my 'Big Joe' CEO (Joe Benacci) and my 'Little Joe' son were erased by Joe Mathieu's book, "Big Joe's Trailer Truck".

What kid wouldn't love a story featuring a main character that shares their name and drives a big truck? Overall, actually a good book. Detailed illustrations and text that isn't overwhelming while also being informative.

This is surprisingly informative!

I used to love this book when I was a little kid. Bought just to reminisce! Still enjoyed it! Must buy. -
This story is 50 years old and still is appealing to children who are interested in trucks. Big Joe is a trucker and got his orders from the dispatcher for each day. This story shows what one day of work would be like for him on one of his routes. At the beginning of the story the trailer truck is illustrated with the parts labelled for the reader to learn and identify. Interesting and educational story with great illustrations.

My older brother got this book when he was little. We all loved reading it. When we would go on road trips, we would always try to get the semi trucks to honk their horns. Back then they could. This book always reminds me of that time.

The illustrations are the thing that really made this book. They were very detailed, especially in the trailer truck garage. There is a full diagram detailing every part of the truck. The characters were also drawn very warm and friendly. Joe looks like a 'good guy'.
The drawings felt very nostalgic to me as well. It makes sense because the pub date is 74 and ,yeah, I would have been a kiddo then. The story is not fancy or bubbly, but it works for what it is. The 8 yr old said his favorite part was learning what truckers do, and I guess that is the point of the book after all. -
I knew of Joe's books through the many Sesame Street titles he illustrated throughout the 1970s and 1980s. It was cool to find a book that he was the sole creator of. Big Joe's Trailer Book is an excellent picture book that describes the day in the life of a trucker. I also enjoyed Dan's Moving Van.

I really like the illustrations in the simple story about a truck driver. Does a good job of explaining what a trucker's job is and there is a great illustration at the beginning of the book that details all the parts on a tractor trailer.
-
One of my favorite books when I was younger. There isn't a lot to the story, as it follows a truck driver through a typical day, but the art is pretty good and kid's will be interested in the illustrations breaking down the truck's various parts.

A childhood favorite....
-
James' favorite book when he was a lad. I used to love reading this with James. And when I was old enough to read, I would read it to James. Ah good times.
-
Perfect book for that kid that loves trucks. It has a break down of all the parts in a truck.

I agree. Grahambo also gives it five stars, even if it isn't Thomas.
-
I finally remembered the title of this book after twenty-five years of trying. Loved it. I think I'm going to order it.
-
Yay for trucks!
This is very detailed and accurate for a kids book! Paints a great picture for kids of a truckers lifestyle! -
Big trucks are fun and you have to follow the manifest.

My absolute favorite book as a kid
