It doesn’t matter if you a baker for the holidays or just someone who bakes from time to time this is a great addition for you cookbook shelf. I really enjoyed the recipes I tried and I loved how easy they are explained. I also like the tips and little make ahead help, which this cookbook offers. The only downside for me was I wish they had more pictures but you can’t have it all sad to say LOL..
You get everything from classic cookies to shortbread, bars, fudge and biscotti, just to name a few. You also get a little of nutrition facts about each recipe so you know what you’re eating. A little note for new bakers, some of these recipe are not quick but if you take your time the end result is great and you’d pound that you did it.
My overall impression of this book is it will be on my cookbook bookshelf as soon as it comes out. -
I really enjoy baking the cookies and they are just yummy! 'Fine Cooking Cookies' recipes are easy to follow. I like the step-by-step photos of the more difficult ones which I find really helpful. There are a wide selection of cookies and other treats and with 200 recipes there is something for everyone. I also love the hints and tips dotted throughout the book, which I find useful. I am planning to work through all the recipes in this book as they all look great.

Most people will agree that one can never have enough cookies, even though they can play havoc with your waistline.
If you are weak of will and enjoy the odd (box?) of cookies or two, this might not be the best thing for you, just because of the sheer temptation. Here are 200 very nice-looking recipes for cookies and various derivatives that you can make in the comfort of your home kitchen. From the basic and simple to the more elegant and adventurous there is plenty to keep you at the kitchen bench for a long while.
As a responsible reviewer, one must advise you to eat something other than cookies from time to time!
This book is something that could have came from Willy Wonka's chocolate factory insofar as you feel that you could reach out and eat the pages (not recommended, it is not rice paper). Beautiful photography sets out these recipes to their best, conveying a mixture of aspirational and practical feelings that make you want to roll your sleeves up and get baking.
Split into several key sections - classic cookies & confections, bars, brownies & bites, fruit & nut cookies, biscotti & shortbread, spirited & spiced cookies and sweet & savoury sandwiches -there is a great range of diversity within these recipes. The recipes are very complete and well-laid out despite the sheer volume of information that is battling for the reader's attention. A general introduction, ingredients list, detailed cooking instructions, serving and nutritional information and many hints and tips are all clearly set out, battling for a host of helpful information about specific ingredients and so on. All of this plus the aforementioned excellent photographs makes this a really busy, active book. Yet it does not feel a chore to read through it, quite the contrary.
Many of these recipes look like they have just came from the shelves of an upscale store and dropped casually onto the plate. They do not look home made yet, when you read through the recipes, you soon notice that you do not need to be a master baker or confectioner in order to get these delights to your own table.
Whilst this is primarily a recipe book, the mass of helpful advice on many related elements of cookie baking make this a great means to improve and refine your techniques. A newcomer to the kitchen does not need to feel shut out here. It is not a chid's first cook book but it not something that only the very, very experienced cook can make use of. This book has been written primarily for the U.S. marketplace, hence the imperial measurements, although a "metric equivalency" table is provided at the rear. A full list of contributors and a brief biography is also provided so you can also read a little about the person responsible for each recipe and perhaps search out further books, recipes and articles.
Simply put. Buy this book. Even if you have bookcases full of books with tempting recipes buy this book, or have a darn good reason why you shouldn't be tempted to do so.

What is there not to like about baking cookies, eating homemade cookies or just drooling over the recipes and illustrations in a wonderful cookbook. Fine Cooking's Cookies: 200 Recipes for Cookies, Brownies, Bars and More is a delightful treat.
Just published this month, this cookbook is an excellent addition to a baker's cookbook collection. I like how it has recipes for chewy and crisp chocolate chip cookies. My husband likes chewy and I like crisp! Mmmmm...the vanilla sugar cookies look amazing. This cookbook is filled with excellent tips as well.
Gorgeous photos, helpful photos that show the steps, wonderful recipes, I highly recommend this wonderful cookbook. Ok time to go and make some vanilla sugar cookies! -

This is by far the best cookie book I have come across. It is full of interesting and unique cookie recipes, as well as all of the old classics. The directions couldn't be easier to follow and the full color, step by step photos are very helpful. Make sure to read all of the tips and tricks this book offers from everything from buying the right kind of vanilla to the right way to roll and dip truffles.

Baking is a favorite pastime in our home - courtesy my tween who is always waiting to, ready to bake! I initially looked at this book years ago when I was experimenting with baking. Recently, in an effort to work on my overdue review shelf, I picked it up from a library to try out some (hopefully for now, can stop at some, as all recipes look delish) to the delight of my dd.
The verdict - we cannot stop at one - for both the cookies we baked and trying out the different recipes :) Helpful step by step instructions with photos that help you with the process and tempt you further, and additional tips and notes throughout the book make baking a breeze. Recipes also includes an introduction to the cookie and nutritional facts along with all the other useful information. The book is split into sections including "Classic Cookies & Confections", "Bars, Brownies & Bites", "Fruit & Nut Cookies", "Biscotti & Shortbread", "Spirited & Spiced Cookies"; and "Sweet & Savory Sandwiches". And with 200 recipes , you can bake something almost every weekday :) all through the year.
And should try out the recipes in this book. Of course! But a word of warning, some (well, more than) recipes yield a large number of cookies, sure to make the kiddos and the sweet-toothed ones (like me) super thrilled, but like I said, just a word of warning.
Thanks to NetGalley for introducing me to this book. Opinions are fully ours
