WHERE THERE'S SMOKE
Little Petey Randall had already learned that life wasn't like the fairy tales his mommy told him. He knew his dad wasn't around much anymore, and sometimes Mommy looked so sad. Thank goodness for his new friend, the dragon, who lived next door in the garden. Mommy said dragons were only make-believe, but Petey knew better.
Hannah Randall wasn't too sure about the scaly, fire-breathing variety, but she knew a dragon of a man lived next door. Sam Dennehy was distant at the best of times, crabby at the worst. But every time Hannah looked deep into his eyes, she knew Sam was no dragon . . . he was a man in need of love, a man who could steal her heart.

Pete's Dragon (Silhouette Romance, No 854) Reviews

I really liked this oldie. We have a heroine who is recently divorced and is trying to build a life for herself and her son. The hero is the recluse who lives next door, left in pain both physical and emotional after a life-changing accident. The driver of this story is the heroine's little boy who tries to be strong but doesn't understand why daddy doesn't love him and who breaks through the hero's solitude. The hero is a major grump at first but somehow circumstances keep bringing h/H together. I loved how the heroine wanted to protect her son and didn't want them to be hero's substitute for his loss. This one was a pretty sweet and moving romance.
