Interesting to read the work of someone with such a classical and varied education. "The Ungrateful Garden" contains some powerful language and metaphors, as well as numerous literary and mythological allusions. I greatly enjoyed about one-third of the poems. That seems a good percentage for liking any poet since each poem is a new world and a private one on multiple levels between the creator and its consumption by the reader. I am tempted to rate the book four stars but, for me, three seems correct. Quite a strong first book! I definitely would wish to read more from this poet.
