The Sheriffs Runaway Bride (Rocky Mountain Heirs, #2) Reviews

Excellent start. Good plot. Gospel message spelled out.
I think I would like to read the rest in this series.

  • Laura

I picked this up after a recommendation from a friend. I have to say I wasn't impressed. The romance was pretty cute, but the rest of the story fell flat.
There are TONS of characters that flit in and out of the story with little introduction. I am guessing this is my fault for picking up book #2 in a series....not that they are labeled that way on the books (BUT, they are on goodreads!)
The whole reason Zach came home was left open ended....um, ok? I guess the author is expecting us to keep reading the series to find out the answer? What is the real story behind Kylie's family's trouble? Nope, we don't get the answer to that one either.
Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this story enough to read half a dozen more books to find the outcome of the mystery.

    Going Home

Kylie Jones and Zach Clayton fell in love quickly after many events. Kylie was a run away bride, Zach the new deputy sheriff in town, only because he was there for a year to help fulfill his Grandfather's will request. They both would do some growing in the Lord ad they learn to depend upon Him.

3.5 Stars. Cute read. A little difficulty in the beginning to keep up with so many minor characters, but the story was a page turner. I'm sure I'll get to the other books in this series

  • Sharon

Sweet story but a little preachy for my taste.

  • Pam Jackson-gorsline

    Runaway bride

This is a good story with many twists and turns that keeps you reading. The characters were well developed and likeable

  • Vicki

    Fun read. Great romance.

A book starting with a bride running out of the church, away from her cheating groom, and into the arms of the new sheriff in town automatically has a level of heightened expectation. In addition, The Sheriff’s Runaway Bride is the second in the “Rocky Mountain Heirs” series, following a stellar start by Linda Goodnight’s The Nanny’s Homecoming. Would the second installment be as good as the first? Arlene James had her work cut out for her and rises to the challenge by presenting an excellent stand-alone faith-filled love story all while moving the overall story arc along at lightening pace.

Equal parts beautifully developed romance and small town suspense, The Sheriff’s Runaway Bride focuses on another of the Clayton cousins coming home to fulfill the wishes of a grandfather’s will. Zach Clayton is a lawman recovering from trauma in the big city. He returns to his hometown and lands a new job as deputy sheriff. In a different sort of “meet cute,” on his first day, Zach spies waitress Kylie Jones fleeing the church in her wedding gown after she discovers his cousin kissing another woman before the ceremony. The romance begins and so does the suspense.

Zach and Kylie’s developing relationship is wonderfully written. The reader witnesses the hero and heroine both gradually falling into newly discovered love, often given the short shrift in romances and made all the more endearing by the author’s excellent descriptions from Zach’s point of view. Their reliance on God and developing faith is clearly described in a way both poignant and real. In addition to the hero and heroine having dreams at cross purposes, threats to Kylie and continuing family mysteries add just enough suspense to keep the pages turning quickly. The reader will get their HEA for Zach and Kylie while being left impatient for the next installment of “Rocky Mountain Heirs.” The best of both in the mini-series world!

The story flowed better than the first book, especially the whole church and community thing was better placed in this book ..
Unlike the first one where it felt forced and didn't add much to the story ..
I'm going to read the rest of the series because I'm really intrigued by how the story would play out, and how it would end for everyone!

The Sheriff's Runaway Bride by Arlene James
Book 2 in the Rocky Mountain Heirs Series
Zach Clayton has come back to Clayton, Colorado to honor the stipulation in his grandfather's will, to have all six grandchildren return to Clayton and stay at least one year before they inherit land and money. He was able to take the Deputy Sheriff job as Digger's has just retired. His first day back and he rescues a fleeing bride, who for good reason has had a change of heart. And he would gladly help this beauty escape the clutches of his nemesis, Vincent Clayton. Their families have been feuding for years but Vincent has been extremely nasty to Zach's sisters.

Kylie Jones runs to the handsome new lawman, hoping he will help her. She just had a wake up call and realizes she never really wanted to marry Vincent, he was a way to get her family out of debt, not someone she loved. Only problem is that what Vincent deems his, he don't let go of easily. Little misdeeds keep happening to Kylie and Zach but nothing that can be pinned directly on Vincent, as always.

Zach had long ago left Clayton and now that he is back again, he is considering making it his home. Kylie had to leave college and her dream of a Bridal shop in Denver to come help her family get out of debt that Samuel Clayton got her dad into. Her dream is to get out of Clayton again one day, only getting to know Zach is changing her dreams once again.

Same with 'The Nanny's Homecoming'.....I LOVED EVERYTHING about this book!!!!.....LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT this book, the characters.....LOVED Brooke Clayton's brother, Sheriff Zach Clayton and Kylie Jeanne Jones, who was introduced in 'The Nanny's Homecoming' (the first of the Rocky Mountain Heirs series)....I adored the way Zack and Kylie were introduced to each other....With Kylie literally running straight into new Clayton sheriff, Zack Clayton's arms in her wedding dress....Running out on her SCUM 'Almost husband' minutes before their wedding....Zack and Kylie had TONS of chemistry! LOVED seeing Brooke, Gabe, little A.J. Darlene, little Macy, Arabella, Jasmine, Arabella's triplets....I hope that SCUM Vincent 'gets his'....Either that or has a wake up call from GOD....I'm just LOVING EVERYTHING about the 'Rocky Mountain Heirs' series.....Looking forward to reading the rest of the series ;-)

Underneath layers of religious babble is a rather simple story that pretends to be more than it is. It has a lot of references to what i suspect is the authors other stories, but all in all I just ended up feeling annoyed and impatient.
I did like the characters and the language though, when they weren't going on about something religious.

Book 2 in the Rocky Mountain Heirs series was a fun read. Zach's story. Like that very early on, the hero and heroine were aware of their attraction to each other and wanted to be together. Conficts were more circumstances than angst, making it a lighter, enjoyable read.

I bought this book because I liked the title, and I wasn't disappointed. It speaks to me and my love of happy endings that after a relationship not working, that a better one comes along at just the right time. :)

  • Desiree

The only thing I don't like about this book, and others in this series, is that there are some mystery/unsolved portions of the book that don't get resolved till the last book, so with as short of book this one it, I just found it to be annoying.

  • Pam

I loved this story. She was questioning about marrying her guy than she caught him before there the wedding in a car doing more than he should be. She takes of and runs into the new sheriff who is the cousin of the groom and kisses him. They end up dating but there is a dislike between the cousins which keeps the pages turning to see what's going to happen next. Its a well written book that is hard to put down. J
