In Book of Mormon times, Alma reminded his son Helaman of the power of small things to bring about great things, including the salvation of souls. We see the truth of Alma s statement over and over again in our own lives. The small and simple things we do have great meaning in our family relationships, in our Church service, and in our personal righteousness. We also have the benefit of seeing how the Lord works through small and simple things to accomplish His great work. In this collection of twenty-five selected addresses from the 2011 BYU Women s Conference, presenters encourage readers to recognize and remember the power of attending to the small things.

I enjoyed the different talks. Lots to think about and ponder. One quote by Sister Siliva Allred: “How do we set our priorities in the proper order? And how do we soften our hearts to desire the priorities that we know are most important?”

This was a really nice collection of talks aimed, of course, at LDS women and their concerns and yearnings. Elder Bednar opened with a great talk about measured steadiness--small and simple things. He likened consistent small drops of spiritual nourishment to the efficacy of drip irrigation. I liked his talk, reminding me that the small consistent things are more important than the big flash in the pan moments. This would be a great book for Relief Society teachers and leaders. For instance, I really liked Mary Ellen Edmunds talk about Visiting Teaching, "Beyond Statistics." I particularly needed Gail Miller's talk about patience and was uplifted by the spiritual depth and goodness of Virgina H. Pearce's talk on prayer--the last talk in the book and perhaps the best. I read this book slowly, a talk a day for several weeks. It was a nice way to do it--little by little--in Small & Simple chunks.
