Domesday Book: Its Place in Administrative History Reviews

Taken solely on it's merits as writing, Galbraith's book does well. His points are clear, his writing is fluent, and his abbreviations and allusions are explained.
In brief, Galbraith's argument is that Domesday Book results from William the Conqueror's desire to know better what the royal demesne and his tenants-in-chief owned. With this knowledge he could better exploit his rights as a feudal lord.
