HANDS DOWN, feet down, face down, ass down the best book Jennnifer L. Armentrout has ever written (yes, the extra "n" in Jennifer was originally a typo, but I decided to leave it in because that's just how awesome she is). I've said before that I'm riding the Jennifer L. Armentrout train going full speed ahead, but now I own the frickin railroad! GREAT ALIEN BALLS OF FIRE!
I must warn you, Onyx drips with sexual tension. Just when I thought the witty banter between Daemon and Kat couldn't get any better, I was bitch-slapped with betterness! How can you not love a book with words like "dickdom" and "craptastic" or a phrase like, "my boobs just might come out and say hello tonight." When I wasn't having a total bookgasm for Daemon, I was laughing out loud!!
The pace of the story is perfection. Often times, a book starts off great and climaxes great (insert immature giggle here), but suffers from "saggy middle syndrome". There is nothing saggy aboutDaemonOnyx. We don't get jipped with a "filler" sequel thats only purpose is to transition into book three. We get a sequel that blows away the first! Jennifer takes everything that was good about Obsidian and does it ten times better!
So ladies...send the kids to grandma's, lock up the husbands, break up with the boyfriends because you're spending the night with Daemon. In fact, I actually think I may be impregnated with a tiny alien baby just by reading Onyx.
Jennifer L. Armentrout has proven herself to be the pimp of all teasers; be prepared to be left wanting more! SO *gasp* MUCH *gasp* MORE *pant*

Where to start, where to start? Well, how about HOW FREAKING AMAZING JLA IS!!!
Onyx is PERFECTION! Pure Genius!!! I thought Obsidian was amazing but Onyx is breath taking. It's a non-stop rollercoaster ride that tears at your emotions. But did I ever want to get off this ride?? NO!
I absolutely loved Katy! She became such a strong and admirable character! She is flawed and I love it!! Who wants a perfect heroine anyway? That's not realistic. But man oh man did she make some BIG mistakes! I feel for her though because guilt is definitely eating her up. Anyway, I would tell you how strong she became but a lot of it has to do with really spoilery stuff. Just know that Katy became fierce and she does not rely on anyone.
First off, Onyx picks up right where Obsidian left off. Daemon is his usual irresistible self and Katy tries to stay away from him. I wouldn't say there's a lot of plot plot during the first hundred pages or so but that's because it's setting everything up for the big SHA-BANG! And even without a real plot it was still amazing! We get to meet new characters and even see the totally swoon-worthy, sweet, sweet Daemon! The conversations are full of witty banter and the absolutely frustrating yet completely satisfying sexual tension between Daemon and Katy. When you throw Blake into the picture get ready for a testosterone stand off! LOL Daemon does NOT like Blake AT ALL! Whenever they interacted I was always laughing my butt off! Daemon was hilarious always calling Blake names like Flake, Bimbo, Biff, etc. It was very entertaining and I loved it! I liked how Blake was able to hold his own against Daemon but I'm sorry, Daemon has no competition! He is just so, so perfect and sweet especially when it came to the Thanksgiving scene! Trust me people! You DO NOT want to miss that scene!!!! I was tearing up because of how sweet it is!! I think my favorite scene from when they're still teasing each other and the situation hasn't gotten so serious yet though would be the vlog scene! I won't say what happens exactly but I loved seeing the two acting like normal teens who like each other even if they won't admit it.
Speaking of which, that also reminds me of how we got to know the characters more. Katy is a book blogger and one of the things I loved was when there were little snippets of what book she was reading at the time. I loved it when she mentioned Tod from the soul screamers series because I absolutely love that series and seeing it combined in another series that I love was amazing lol. Katy wasn't the only character we learned more about though. There were a lot of random facts, that were so small you'd think you'd miss them, about the characters and it added to their development. I truly enjoyed learning more about these characters because it made me love them more. Even though they aren't normal human beings, there are still details about them that make them normal in a way. I feel that those details are what makes the story and the characters more realistic. Knowing these things about them makes the characters more significant to the reader and it makes us care about them.
As the story goes on you get these HUGE slaps in your face! My jaw dropped multiple times while reading because I was in shock for literally half the book! It is extremely hard to surprise me but boy oh boy did JLA pull it off! If my jaw dropped any further it would have detached from the rest of my bone structure! Seriously my reaction:
Yeah, there are A LOT of surprises thrown at you. So many revelations that add to the roller coaster of emotions that you're already feeling!
Then once you get to the climax/main action scene OMG! IT. TEARS. YOU. APART! I don't want to spoil anything but I'll tell you to get a tissue box ready because this was me:
And then after what happened I was like how can I survive the rest of this??? You wanna know how I survived?? Because the next scene was PERFECTION and this was me:
That's still me on the inside! I think Onyx gave me a book hangover! And THAT"S NOT ALL! When you think everything is finally coming to an end, you're thrown into another whirlwind! I thought I was going to die! Those last couple of chapters were full of...GAH! I don't even know!!! I thought my heart was going to break along with the characters' but then, ON. THE. LAST. FREAKING. PAGE!!!! Talk about a cliff hanger much?????? I don't know how I can possibly wait for Opal. At least December is just 5 months away. 5 excruciatingly long months.... -

the only thing cheesier than the covers for a series about a boy alien is how much i am L I V I N G for these books. i honestly cant get over how entertaining this story has been. yes, i had major doubts before i started this series, but its only gotten better and better.
positives: the writing is so clever and quick - the banter between characters is unparalleled. the pacing is unreal - this book takes place over the span of only a couple of days, meaning so. much. happens. and dont even get me started on daemon - the boy makes my blood boil in the best way possible. goodness me.
negatives: its too bingeworthy. i read this in a span of a day. at this rate, the series will be over before im emotionally ready. oh well! time for book three! hehe.

Obsidian Style
Up First : Bad Cop
1. The first half of this book sucked hard. Go on, try to convince me that it didn't. I won't be moved. Not one interesting thing happened in the first 40 or so percent. Sexual tension? If sexual tension means Katy saying the same thing over and over and pushing Daemon away, even when he was being nice to her, that's some of the worst sexual tension I've ever seen. Where did book 1 Katy go? I miss the snark and the bite. This new insecurity thing was downright sad to watch. She questioned Daemon at every single turn, no matter how many times he tried to convince her that he cared."It's going to take a lot more than a Thanksgiving dinner and a Christmas tree to get laid."
Bitch, please. I've been in your head for two books now. The ripped body, the gorgeous hair, the piercing green eyes...where is the problem exactly? I think I'd be dropping trou over a McNugget and a carnation.
2. Making fun of cliches in writing, then turning around and using one is just awkward. The nice little paragraph poking fun at insta-love (this is the new trend in books lately...acting like the book is above stereotypes so people will think the story is somehow cooler than the last one they read) was sort of cancelled out by the pathetic love triangle that wasn't. There are other ways to create conflict in a relationship than moving a new boy to town. Want to know what would have worked the same exact way without being cliche? Move a new girl to town. Instead of threatening the relationship with Daemon, the new girl could have threatened the friendship with Dee. Oh wait...Dee wasn't around much in this book. Never mind.
3. Enough with the fandom. I get it. This author has read most of today's well-known YA authors. I'm thinking that it's time to spread those wings and stop relying on the crutch of familiar stories to beef up background details. Even though this series does not commit the heinous crime that the Covenant series does when it comes to imitation being the most insincere form of flattery, there's still those tiny echoes of Twilight and I am Number Four creeping in. You have the "second book - almost romance with the friend," the "I can read everyone's minds but yours twist," the "you're deeply and irrevocably in love with me line," the "stalking and showing up in the bedroom moments,"...I could go on. Btw...nice touch with the Han and Leia statement near the end (won't spoil it).
4. Idiot girl was extremely idiotic. When you have a secret to tell, who do you tell? The people you know and trust...or the person you just met? By my idiot girl comment, it's apparent to see that choice two is what happened.
5. A few extra random things : ~ The mention of Daemon not needing to breathe one moment, then a mention of his breath in Katy's hair the next sort of threw me off. ~ I got tired of the Bilbo, Butler, etc. nicknames after about the 5th time Daemon did it. ~ There was a lot of hair tucking going on. I think people might need to invest in some headbands.
Followed By : Good Cop
1. Daemon was still sexy. So, I might have mentioned that he was always hanging around, even when not wanted. I'm going to contradict my earlier statement by not caring. Sometimes I forget to be a sensible person and allow myself a day pass to swoon. This is one of these times. Sure, cocky males are a dime a dozen in YA lit. But every so often, you have one that stands out from the pack. Daemon is that one.
"Modesty is for saints and losers. I'm neither."
2. The second half of the book was FUN. Once we got past the back-and-forth yawn-fest, the action finally kicked in. It was fun. It was fun. It was fun. Go, go alien powers!
3. I like the setup for the next book. The ending was not a surprise but it did have me wishing I had book 3 right now, so I could see what happens next.
4. Daemon was still sexy. It was worth mentioning twice. I love how he calls Katy, "kitten." It's really cute coming from him. Not sure why.
Overall, after an extremely frustrating start, the book did eventually end up becoming an entertaining, sexy, and action-packed read. -

I didn't think Jennifer Armentrout's wittiness, cleverness and ingenuity could step beyond the already above-average line, but with Onyx, she somehow managed to! Now I always say this about Miss Armentrout's books, I don't know how she does it, but she manages to write a bestselling novel in a span of a few weeks/months that enchants her readers no matter what genre she's tackling. Onyx does exactly that ladies and gentlemen. It captures the reader and doesn't let go until the last word on the final page. As the plot thickens, you can't help but fall in love with the characters and their exciting loved. Obsidian showed us how sexy aliens can be, Onyx comes back with still-as-sexy-if-not-more aliens but this time with more intriguing mysteries, tons of plot twists, mind-blowing suspense, and hotter chemistry. Jenn has be salivating for book three.
Katy, honestly, is one heroine that I don't think I can ever hate. Her attitude, wit, and strength have captivated me. If only every other young adult heroine was like this. I'm not embarrassed to say this might be the beginning of my first ever girl-crush, lol. Yes, as perfect as someone might seem, they have their flaws too. I didn't understand why Katy didn't seem to realize that when a guy flings a knife at you (even with good intentions), that's where you have to draw the line. Bu nope, she went on like he threw a pillow-pet in her face. She should've listened to Daemon *le sigh*. Another thing, it shouldn't have taken her a millennium to finally accept Daemon's feels, sheesh, it's not like she's dense. I love her because she's not perfect though. Other than that, Katy's character lived up to her nickname (kitten). Feisty but sweet, fierce and protective. And it helps that she's now just as kick-ass as the surrounding aliens. If I had to hand Daemon over to anyone, Katy would win, hands down. Speaking of Dae--*swoon*. Whoops, sorry, okay, I'm back in the world of the living now. That's right, where were we, Daemon Black was it? Heaven and Hell personified? He is aggravating but at the right moment, he can make a girl feel like she's floating above a garden of chocolate strawberries. This boy sure did bring sexy back with Onyx. If you thought what you saw of him in Obsidian was too-good-to-be-true, you're in for one hell of a ride once you get your hands on Onyx. This time Daemon's back still sexy and knee-weakening, but with a hint of sugar, no make that 1/2 cup. We've all seen Daemon's protective and charming side, but no one's seen his sweet one. That's right, Daemon and sweet, in the same sentence, astonishing isn't it? When he really puts his mind to it, he truly can be thoughtful, and in Onyx he does just that. He's determined to show Katy exactly what she's missing out on. Daemon was sexy, charming, fiercely protective, determined, and romantic in this book, it just made me fall in love with him even more.
Love triangle you say? PUH-LEASE! As if you can have a love triangle with our boy Daemon in the mix. I absolutely despised Blake, every single body part of his belongs in jail, or in the woods, with wolves...big...furry...hungry ones. But you can't blame Katy for liking his stinky-lying-abusive ass. LOL, sorry, but yah, Blake just didn't do it for me, or Daemon for that matter. In fact, Blake just made Daemon and Katy's relationship in this book even more complicated, the butt-face. Speaking of KAMON (I like that shipping :D). Their relationship is rocky but it's like that rocky-road ice-cream...I think. Although it's bumpy and filled with tears and heart-breaks, they still have sizzling moments, and romantic ones. Libraries, Christmas trees, table-tops, bedrooms, you name it, Onyx has it. As for the other characters like Dee, and some of the other aliens. Welll, Dee's just as cute, Ash still has problems, and the rest of the aliens are still huge snobs, woohoo!
Overall, Jennifer Armentrout never fails to amaze me with her writing and her characters. She made me want to move to West Virginia, I'm really starting to believe that it truly might be the land of lost models. If Opal is half of what Onyx was, then it's already got me twined around it's pages. I'm glad Miss Armentrout decided to take up writing, I'm not sure where I would be without Katy and Daemon in my thoughts.

Reviewer’s Note: I’ve decided against doing a full review of Onyx. I’m simply not a fan of Jennifer Armentrout, and I don’t know why I keep getting tricked and/or guilted into giving her books chance after chance expecting to finally like one. Obviously, there’s a lot I could talk about, like say, the complete lack of a plot in the first eighteen chapters, but I am so frustrated by how much I dislike Onyx that I have nothing nice to say, so I think I’m not going to say anything at all. Ok, maybe just the following observations I took while reading the book.
Be prepared for eighteen chapters of meaningless flirting, making out, thinking of making out, and more making out, starring a jealous, possessive jerk and an insecure, angsty girl, while the actual plot points can be summarized in two sentences! Of no more than six words each! Don’t believe me? Katy discovers she has powers. New kid Blake is onto her. That’s it!
Be prepared for a jackass so stiffly written and a girl so obtuse even though she’s a book blogger (cause obviously she’s never heard of the awesome site that’s TVTropes, where much more than just TV shows are lampooned) that he needs an obnoxious pet name for her and she falls for him intentionally confusing the name of his romantic rival, not once, not twice, but so many times I just gave up in sheer annoyance!
Be prepared for nothing but a string of make out scenes and innuendo filled dialogue, where every event is a prelude to or excuse for more making out! Had a fight? Make out! Stakeout? Make out in the car! A friend just died? Skip the funeral and get over your grief by making out two pages later! Don’t worry, it’s tragic, not gauche at all, I promise!
Be prepared for a villain so transparent his sole redeeming quality is that the book invests so much time in the make out scenes he only gets three short chapters to do anything! And then it’s over! Wait, that’s a good thing!
Reviewer’s Note, Continued: Yeah, I could’ve organized my notes properly and come up with something that flowed a bit better, but every other sentence was shaping up to be some sort of ad hominem attack and I couldn’t have that. I guess I really can't write a full review of Onyx without degenerating into a sarcastic, Daemon-like jerk :( -

While Daemon seemed sure that Kat would admit her feelings towards him,she tried to convince herself and everyone else that those feelings were nonexistant and that Daemon's decision to pursue her was the result of the creepy alien bond they shared.And that conviction cascaded a parade of bad bad decisions,from starting dating someone else (even though is was brief and sabotaged by Daemon) and playing ninja on her own to training with a dubious boy to explore her recently developed super powers and keeping secrets from the people she loved.Add her mom's new boyfriend,the DOD's sudden interest in her,curious disappearances,coincidences that were not coincidences and some huge revelations about alien mutations and that's it,Katy was not (could not be) the same person anymore.

Onyx was an intriguing,action-packed,bite-your-nails-out-of-agony,sizzling-romance-that-makes-your-toes-curl,ravish-Daemon novel.JLA does not fail to surprise you,she could fill you with hope and then leave you desparate and speechless,make your heart beat frantically and then abruptly stop.Secrets and schemes related to the government held you captivated,and moments of anguish and pain were inevitable.The tension between Daemon and Kat was off the charts,but there was also something else brewing between them.Something warm and fuzzy,a deep connection that had nothing to do with the alien bond.Something tender and beautiful.
I would've kept you safe.
Onyx made me love Daemon even more.He knew the error of his ways,he tried to show Kat the magnitude of his feelings and even though she denied him,he was there,looking for her,never giving up.He's just perfect.
And hot.Let's not forget that.
Words were the most powerful tool.Simple and so often underestimated.They could heal.They could destroy.
Words.Katy could simply use words and everything would be different.It keeps happening,when I like a female character,she does something incredibly stupid.It's like Kat was asking me to smash her head or hand her to the Arum!She trusted the wrong people,she hurt Daemon and Dee and out of pure stubborness she did the exact opposite of what she was told.
At least she stopped being a bystander,and she was driven by the urge to protect those close to her,she didn't want to be a damsel in distress,and she finally put herself together in the end.After I plotted a dozen ways to murder her and throw myself at Daemon.
If there is anything, there is us.

Obsidian' left off.
OMG to think I would've missed out on this series if I hadn't wanted to challenge myself!! This book like the first one was so freaking good..Maybe even better!! All the feels!! Seriously if you've not read this series (like me) jump on it, give it a shot, no words can convey how much I loved these two books!! Now I need to try and fit the rest in between arcs!!
This was an easy 5 stars+++++ Highly recommend by yours truly!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who recommended this series to me, it's taken me a few years to jump on this but I finally did and these are up there with some of my favourite series to date, being that it's the first PNR series to be added to that list is HUGE!!

From this point onwards I was in heaven, I loved these two, their bickering, their attraction, their connection had me gasping for more.
Ever since Daemon healed her, they have had this weird, strong, connection ever since. And that was a far cry to when these two first encountered each other, the first day Katy moved in next door, and made fast friends with his sister is when Deamon's life tilted on its axles. No matter how many times he told her to stay away.
Daemon was a total babe, but he was stab-worthy, which at times zeroed out the babe part.

Wow. Favorite new Paranormal Romance series, thy name is Lux. I've said before that from the moment I first started seeing the Lux books floating around, I avoided them. But the thing that finally convinced me to check it out was
Julie's review over at
All Things Urban Fantasy, where she said, "As much as I enjoyed OBSIDIAN, ONYX was even better." Confession time: Sometimes I start a book series just to get to a certain book in that series. The best example would have to be Julie Kagawa's
The Iron Queen from
The Iron Fey series or even Richelle Mead's
Shadow Kiss from
Vampire Academy. Even though I do believe that each book in a series should be able to stand on its own merit, I will often tell people to read those series just to get to that special book. And I know that there is more to come from the Lux series, but until then I'll be saying to read this series to read Onyx. Because where Obsidian was fun, addictive and sexy, Onyx does it so much better.
Armentrout wasn't fooling around with Onyx. From the very beginning it seemed she had a plan to really up the ante with book two and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. We have a noticeable amount of deeper character growth for both Daemon and Katy, all-around better plot, and of course, more banter & steamy scenes. So obviously that makes this a more difficult review to write without spoilers.
Onyx picks up shortly after Obsidian and we have Katy, still sarcastic as ever, and Daemon, determined to prove to Katy his feelings are true and not just the result of their newfound alien connection. In fact, the biggest change in Onyx is Daemon and his attitude for Katy. Gone is the "douche canoe" from the previous novel and let's just say I can totally see when the dude has a Facebook page called
Daemon Invasion. ;) But Katy pushes Daemon away at every chance she gets. And while this did get a bit frustrating as a reader, I can understand her reluctance to him considering his past actions, no matter what his intentions were. Unfortunately, her stubbornness ultimately ends with devastating consequences that I honestly never saw coming. I'm not going to give it away, but I'll say I shed a few tears.
One thing I was sad about was Dee's character being slightly put on the back burner in this novel. I missed the relationship between her and Katy. Instead, Katy's time in Onyx is almost completely monopolized by a new character, Blake, or as Daemon would call him: Bozo, due to his jealously that he manages to marginally hide from Katy. I wish I could tell you more about Blake, but that would give away way too much of the plot. However, I did think there was a love triangle brewing... and I'm happy that I was wrong. But the best part of this new character? Fun, fun, fun banter!"Jesus." Blake rubbed his throat. "You have anger management problem. It's like a disease."

That's all I'm saying about that.
The plot is so much deeper, suspenseful and complex too. I thought I had an idea where things were going at the end of Obsidian, but I was so wrong. There were so many twists in this book and not a shred of a Twilight similarity, I might add. ;) What I once thought was simply black and white (the DOD, Dawson and Bethany's disappearance, Katy and Daemon's connection) was turned upside down. Just... wow.
And the steamy scenes between Katy and Daemon? I knew based on a
guest post at
Xpresso Reads that Armentrout didn't plan on shying away from sex in a YA novel, because really, it's a part of life and coming of age. But, oh, my damn.Time stopped for us. The world and everything I'd been part of only existed outside the closed bedroom door, but in here, it was only us. And for the first time, there was nothing between us. We were open, vulnerable to each other. Pieces of our clothing disappeared. His shirt. Mine. A button came undone on his jeans... and on mine, too.
Anyway, I'm not sure what it is about the Lux series or Armentrout's writing that has me begging for more, but I know I am now desperately waiting for Opal. And if the cliffhanger at the end of Onyx is an indication of anything, it's that the Lux series is like a fine bottle of wine, getting better and better with age.

Well, it certainly hasn't gotten any less cheesy over the years, and the narrator (Justine Eyre) channeling her inner lounge singer to voice Katy, definitely doesn't help.
And part of me wonders if Armentrout wasn't just sort of purposefully spoofing all the dorky angst in the paranormal young adult novels of the day. The dialogue is really so bad.
So, so bad.
I mean, I would snort. <--out loud! A lot.
You could just picture Katy's little fist clenched in some sort of silly parody of righteous anger over the teenage villainy Daemon has perpetrated by boinking her in the back with his pen in class.
OMG. She. Is. Done.
Also, his name is DEMON and nobody comments on this. EVER.
What the hell is that?! You know, you knooooow, that if some poor kid was unfortunate enough to be named Demon (I don't give a fuck that it's spelled Daemon), every goddamn kid in a 100-mile radius would make some sort of a snarky wisecrack. It's practically a law amongst the under 18 crowd. Hell, I would vomit out some goofy joke and I'm a middle-aged woman.
Now, you may need to prepare yourself for the depth of emotion that these two feel for each other before you crack open the pages.
They are irrevocably in love. <-- yes, one of them actually uses the word irrevocably.
It was when I heard that, that my little theory about Armentrout making fun of other YA shit became a full Raid on Area 51 conspiracy theory.
Because here's the thing, I've spent decades with my husband. We've fought like two rabid dogs, cried in each other's arms, and cleaned each other's puke, piss & shit. Not to mention the multiple babies I've squeezed out of my cooch while he uselessly patted my arm.
Never, and I mean never, have either of us stated to the other one that we were irrevocably in love.
That's just fucking stupid.
And yet.
I wanna keep reading (listening). As awful as it is, it has this incredible B-movie plot that has completely sucked me in. His intense staring eyes that hold hidden depths! His rock hard body! The way they explode at each other's touch! The depth of their 4 month old romantic feelings that will (obviously) last forever! Plus all the alien shit?
Fuck yeah! I'm in this bitch for the long haul.
This is the perfect example of a book that's so bad, it's good.

This is a cheesy series. I know it. Really! But for some unexplained reason, I'm just really enjoying it. And it's not even grade-A cheese. Like, the witty banter between the main characters continually teeters on eye-rolling, but at the same time, I can't seem to stop myself from turning the pages!
Weird, right?
The aliens must have penetrated my tinfoil hat. It's the only explanation that makes sense. They are forcing me to like YA alien romance novels...
Alrighty. So before I read the next book, I'll make a new hat out of better tinfoil.

This was such a cute short story - I was so depressed when it got to the end!! I wanted more!!! Can't wait until the next book - Jennifer's writing is addictive!

Onyx is the second book in the much-loved Lux series. Action, mystery, romance and a whole load of aliens. Be prepared for another dose of Jennifer L. Armentrout's awesomeness!
In Obsidian, Katy met Dee and Daemon, brother and sister with a dangerous secret. Now, in Onyx, Katy's relationship with the two siblings is stronger than ever, especially her all-too-hot relationship with Daemon. But Katy and Daemon are connected, due to a deadly battle against the arum, and Daemon is determined to prove that what he feels for Katy has nothing to do with the unearthly tie.
To make matters worse, the Department of Defense is snooping, and if then find out that Katy and Daemon are linked...then she's a goner.
If you thought Obsidian was hot, Onyx will melt you into one big gooey puddle.
In this engrossing sequel, we see that Katy has grown into a stronger person. She is ready to take risks and make her own decisions, even if it means ignoring Daemon's warnings. Katy and Daemon made me laugh so much! The two are just the cutest couple. It was interesting to watch Katy deny her attraction to gorgeous Daemon Black, because she always failed miserably at lying to his face.
I think you will be shocked to here that Daemon is so much hotter in this book. Yes, yes, I thought it wasn't possible either! We see the more loving and caring side to him that we've all been waiting for. He even makes an appearance in one of Katy's In My Mailbox posts that, unsurprisingly, gets quite a few hits.
I love Jennifer's writing so much and for those of you who haven't read any of her books then you should get them ASAP! She creates the hottest guys with the most entertaining of personalities. If your looking for a set of amazing books to read this summer then check out all of Jennifer's books.
Overall, Onyx is a very worthy sequel that will definitely satisfy fans of the first book and will keep readers captivated until the very end. The third book, Opal? I want you now.

My mouth opened, but no words came out.

Now my jaw was on the floor. “You don’t even know what ALA is!”
“American Library Association midwinter event,” he said, grinning proudly. “Saw you obsessing over it on your blog before you got sick. I’m pretty sure you said you’d give up your firstborn child to go.”
Yeah, I kind of did say that.
Daemon eyes flashed. “Anyway, back to the whole you wanting me part.”
I shook my head, dumbfounded.
“You do want me.”
Taking a deep breath, I struggled with my temper… and my amusement. “You are way too confident.”
“I’m confident enough to wager a bet.”
“You can’t be serious.”
He grinned. “I bet that by New Year’s Day, you will have admitted that you’re madly, deeply, and irrevocably—”
“Wow. Want to throw another adverb out there?” My cheeks were burning.

“Stop distracting me, Kitten. Back to my bet—by New Year’s Day, you’ll have admitted that you’re madly, deeply, irrevocably, and irresistibly in love with me.”
Stunned, I choked on my laugh.
“And that you dream about me.” He released my arm and folded his, cocking an eyebrow. “I bet you’ll even admit that. Probably even show me your notebook with my name circled in hearts—”
“Oh, for the love of God…”

His lips tipped up one side and he leaned toward me, his mouth inches from mine. "Come and get it."
Come and get...? Daemon placed half the cookie between those full, totally kissable lips.
Oh, holy alien babies everywhere...
My mouth dropped open. Several of the girls at the table made sounds that had me wondering if they were turning into puddles under the table, but I couldn't bring myself to check out what they really were doing.
That cookie—those lips—were right there.
Heat swept over my cheeks. I could feel the eyes of everyone on else, and Daemon... dear God, Daemon arched his brows, daring me.
Dee gagged. "I think I'm going to hurl."
Mortified, I wanted to crawl into a hole. What did he think I was going to do? Take the cookie from his mouth like something straight out of an R rated version of Lady and the Tramp? Heck, I kind of wanted to and I wasn't sure what that said about me.
Daemon reached up and took the cookie. There was a gleam to his eyes, as if he just won some battle. "Times up, Kitten."
I stared at him.
Breaking the cookie into two, he handed me the larger piece. I snatched it away, half tempted to throw it back in his face, but it was... it was chocolate chip. So I ate it and loved it.

Onyx picks up right after the events of the last book and things only get crazier (and steamier) for Katy and Daemon! To avoid spoilers, I won’t go into much detail about the actual plot, but I loved this book specially because of Daemon and the addicting writing.“Caving in so easily?”
“Caving in?...I just want you out of my face.”
“Keep telling yourself that, Kitten.”
“Keep using your ego steroids.”
In a blink of an eye, he was in front of me, blocking my exit.
“What?”
Placing his hands on either side of my hips, he bent forward…his lips brushed my chin. A strangled gasp escaped the back of my throat, and I swayed toward him.
A heartbeat later, Daemon pulled back, chuckling smugly. “Yeah…not my ego, Kitten.”
Honestly, though, who is even a little bit surprised that Daemon Black has made a special place in my book boyfriend harem? The answer is probably no one. Daemon was rude, sarcastic, and witty in Obsidian and I loved him for it because he made the book fun. But now that he likes Katy and wants her to believe in him, Daemon tries to be sweeter, softer, caring, thoughtful, possessive, and protective, and my heart totally melted at his efforts and transition.For several moments, neither of us spoke. We didn’t need to. I just wanted to hold him—for him to hold me. Maybe it was the connection wrapping us together. Maybe it was something infinitely deeper. At that moment, I didn’t care.
Katy’s heart melted for the same reasons, but she didn’t want to give in easily because of his past actions towards her which I respected. But this push and pull from Katy really started to grate on my nerves when she realized his feelings were authentic, but still continued to push him away. Furthermore, some of her later actions in the book really had me questioning her logic when she was trying to solve the mystery this plot is intertwined with.“You mean something to me—something I can’t really even put into words because everything seems too lame in comparison. I’ve always wanted you, even when I hated you. I want you even though you drive me freaking insane.”
My conflicting feelings over characters aside, this book was still immensely enjoyable because of its fast-paced plot and writing. Yes, some of the twists in the book were mildly predictable, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book. And there were some twists that I didn’t see coming and they were exhilarating! Additionally, JLA’s writing is seriously addicting with its wittiness and cleverness; so much so that I would read these books in one-sitting if I could!“How can you still want me?”
“Oh, I still want to strangle you. But I’m insane. You’re crazy. Maybe that’s why. Maybe we’re meant to be together.”
“That makes no sense.”
Overall, I loved this book and would’ve probably given it 5 stars if not for some of Katy’s stupid actions. Now, I really try not to judge any decisions made by characters in a fantasy setting because I don’t think it is fair. But sometimes characters (read: Katy) make it hard for me to stay fair because their actions seem uncharacteristic or stupid. Other than that minor complaint, this book was fantastic because of the entertaining plot, addictive writing, and swoony Daemon Black! -

I would have to agree with Kat on this one, for anyone who isn't an avid reader will never understand the power of a single book and how it can be treasured among the finest jewels on earth. They are created from the guts, dreams and drive of an author. Printed and bound for our entertainment, for our pleasure and for our escape. They will invoke any range of emotions from laughing your ass off, to crying endless tears to making you so mad you feel the need to hit something. Hard. They have the power to make you swoon like alittlegirl and make you smile till your face falls off. The written world is a very strong bond between reader and the world the author creates.
Dramatic enough? Sure, but I mean ever word of it. If your passion is to read greatness, then you my friends and fellow book lover are in for a real treat when you reach for Onyx by the sensational Jennifer Armentrout.
Simpy put, this is UN-FREAKEN-BELIEVABLY AMAZING!!!!!
Onyx begins right after the aftermath of Obsidian...and that's pretty much all I'm gonna say about the story-line.
See, I'm not sure how much I should mention since a series of events happen rapidly throughout the entire novel. It starts with what happens to Kat and doesn't stop till the book is over. The tiniest thing could be a potential spoiler. There are simply to many twist and turns that I never saw coming and I want the readers to experience everything Onyx and Jennifer brings to this incredible sequel. Trust me, I'd love to scream to the world about everything I've learned. The punches just kept coming and I don't think I was ever fully prepared. So all I'm gonna say about the story-line is that it's worth the wait. It's exciting and heart-pounding and Jennifer is a mad genius and I bow down to her greatness. I absolutely adored where she took the story, and if your fan of these books, I think you will too.
I am however gonna gush about these amazing characters. Okay, I'm gonna gush about Kat and Daemon cause really that's all who matters the most (or at least to me).
Kat really stepped up in this book. She's always been a great character, someone to be proud of and relate to, but I feel like she's taken us on a different level. She's a flawed character who makes lots of mistakes, but she learns from them and owns up. There were a few times I wanted to shake her straight, but her frustration (and ours) was justified so I could hardly fault her for them. Her book loving, book-boyfriend and video reviewing is another reason I find her so easy to relate to. She taps on the obsession side of any reader making her even more likable. That scene with Daemon helping out with her video was absoulty hysterical. But there is so much more to Kat. I love that she wants to stand by Daemon and Dee as equals, that she wants to protect the people she loves just as much as Daemon does. I love her strength, determination and her loyalty, but what I love about her the most is that she challenges Daemon every step of the way. Just as must as he challenges her.
~It's no secret that Daemon Black is one of my all time favorite book crushes. He has far surpassed Edward Cullen and even Jace Wayland at this point and that's really saying something.
Half sexy, half bastard. Equally delicious.
I've always loved the punk-ass in him, but we get to see a side to him that can only be described as a privilege.
My only complaint? Do the right-thing-by-you? Really Daemon? Really?!?! ~head desk~
But seriously, he's just such a blast of a character and I simply adore him to pieces.
Oh! And one more thing, a jealous-Daemon has gotz to be the sexist dame thing I ever did see. So freaken cute!
~We also meet a new character in this one, Blake. I had my suspicions throughout the book, and I guessed a few things right but I didn't guess them all. I wish I could say more but I'm afraid I'm gonna spoil something so I'll stop now. So all I'm gonna say is that I agree with Daemon wholeheartedly.
Bottom line, I couldn't love a book more. Jennifer's writing is so so incredible. I don't even know how to describe how much I adore this women and her books. I laughed so much my face actually hurt afterwards. I jumped up and down screaming at my computer screen and paced my house trying to calm the hell down. This is the stuff that makes me love being a reader. It physically pains me to think about the wait for the next book, Opal. But I have no doubt that Jennifer will delivered another gem worth worshiping.
The Lux series is one of the most addicting books I've ever read. It will always be treasured among my favorites!

Increíblemente entretenido, con mucha fluidez y una historia rápida de leer. Siento que este libro mejoró con respecto al anterior, la protagonista definitivamente ha evolucionado, la historia tiene nuevos matices y el lector no solo conoce mas de la historia de los personajes, sino que también entiendes mas la dimensión del mundo creado por la autora y hasta que punto están implicados tanto el gobierno como los luxen.
Espero leer pronto el tercer libro de la saga!

Hmmm. The romance made more sense to me in this one and I really liked a new element to the story that this book focused on, but I thought the middle dragged. An unnecessary new character was introduced to make a love triangle and I was bored with that whole situation. Daemon is still awful but dang if JLA doesn't write chemistry well.
Audiobook review: Same narrator as the first book. Aside from pronouncing Daemon's name wrong, she's a good narrator. Would recommend.

In the beginning of "Onyx", the things were nearly the same as the first book. Katy and Daemon still arguing all the time...
The difference were that Katy didn't believe that Daemon have feelings for her and if he had... well, she thought that was existing for the wrong reasons...
From the other hand, Daemon was trying hard to show her the depth of his heart... He didn't give up as much as she keep being stubborn...
Until a new boy arrived in their school and everything had change...
No! I won't be in more details because i will ruin the whole thing if you're about to read it!!!
The only thing that i will say it's that nothing is as it seems...
There's a lot of secrets, a lot of betrayal, lots of fights...
that will keep you at the edge of razorblade...
If you haven't read that series yet, you should do it!!! It will worth it!!!

This is the book that we will have a game-changing by Daemon, while Katy suffers by alien flu or something like that.
In other words, Daemon will start pursuing Kate and Kate (after she had almost died in the previous book) will discover that she has some strange powers that she was not supposed to have and she cannot control.
Yes, Daemon will still be a jerk most of the times. That’s mainly due to his protectiveness and his fixation on Kate:
-He still needs to punish Simon for the way that he treated Kate (and he still treats her actually).
-He feels jealousy for the first time in his human life because of the new boy in town. Surfer and cool Blake will show interest in Kate. And Daemon will turn green not because he is an alien but because jealousy makes him suffer.
Kate on the other hand tries to deny that she is not the same Kate any more. And she tries to avoid her feelings for Daemon unsuccessfully. Bad bad girl! She will start playing with two boys and in the end she hurts the most.
Humans and aliens have many secrets, many things to deal, not enough trust.
The story flows with its twists, its funny moments and the tension between Kate, Daemon and Blake (or is it Ben, or Bobby, or Flake, or Bilbo etc.)

Λάτρεψα αυτή τη σειρά από τα πρώτα κιόλας κεφάλαια του οψιδιανού, αλλά το δεύτερο της μέρος ξεπέρασε κάθε προσδοκία μου! Ακόμα περισσότερη δράση, πολλές αποκαλύψεις και γερή δόση έρωτα.
Η μόνη μου ένσταση είναι στο χαρακτήρα της Κατ, η οποία έκανε τη μια βλακεία πίσω από την άλλη. Σε αντίθεση με τον Ντέιμον, που ήταν τρυφερός, γλυκός και ταυτόχρονα καυστικός και με πολύ χιούμορ.

Oh, holy alien babies everywhere......this book is AMAZING!
I'm running out of ways to tell you how amazing this author’s work really is because Onyx really does not disappoint. It’s thrilling, heart-pounding and just as explosive as Obsidian - if not even better and it will leave you wanting more and more!
Onyx starts pretty much where Obsidian finishes. Katy is trying to move on with her life but it’s hard when she has Daemon Black trying to win her over at every turn. Katy is convinced that Daemon is only interested in her because of the connection they now share, so when new boy Blake turns up - showing his interest in Katy, she is happy with the attention she is getting from him but, can she really forget her feelings for Daemon?
Not only does Katy have to deal with boy drama but she also has to deal with the consequences from Daemon healing her and they are truly life changing for her. Struggling to deal, Katy tries to solve things on her own but is she only making things worse? And can she really protect the ones she loves?
Yes, it's safe to say I have fallen in love with another book by this author and she really does know how deliver a fantastic storyline that keeps you sitting on the edge of seat from excitement. It's action packed all the way through, with enough descriptions to make you really feel like your with the characters and this book is seriously HOT! The temperature goes up a whole new level and the scenes between Daemon and Katy do not disappointment.
The characters this time around grow so much. Katy becomes a lot stronger, even though she is still her funny and witty self, the changes that happen to her force her to become someone stronger. She trains hard and really tried her best to become Daemon's equal. Even though they aren't the perfect couple, Daemon really tries his hardest to win Katy over. You see a side of him that you have never seen before and it will seriously leave you girls wishing you had you're very own Daemon Black. He's even more swoon-worthy and totally steals the show.
All in all, Onyx is a fantastic sequel and the author has done a fantastic job by adding the right amount of excitement, romance and suspense to the story, and of course I can't forget to mention one VERY shocking part of the story that will leave you breathless. Jennifer has definitely raised the bar for Opal which will be released in December 2012 and I seriously cannot wait.

The heroine: Katy - High school student that is friends with and lives next door to two Luxen teenagers (alien). Katy had a crush on Daemon but he humiliated her in front of everyone in the cafeteria. Since then he has saved her and healed her. She knows what they are and that the Arum are a race of aliens that are after the Luxen.
The Hero(es): Daemon - Daemon has fought his attraction to Katy. Especially because his brother fell in love with a human and died because of it. Though since he healed Katy they have a connection that he can’t deny.
The Story: Katy has had a crush on Daemon but she can’t forgive him for humiliating her and doesn’t really believe that he now cares about her now when he didn’t before. A new guy named Blake moves to town and shows an interest in Katy.
Katy and blake become friends and of course Daemon acts like a jealous boyfriend. Though Katy won’t stand for it. I liked the interactions between Katy and Daemon. This book was very similar to the first but new things happen and more information is revealed. Katy and Daemon find out that when he healed her it had an effect on her even more so than the connection they feel.
The narration was good but I like it better when there is dual POV and a male and female narrator. That being said, the narration didn’t bother me and the voice was a good one. Sometimes when it is a voice that annoys you it will ruin the entire experience.
The story was good and interesting. I wish there were a bit more chemistry between Daemon and Katy and more steam in the book. Though I do like where the story went in this one and it seems to be leading to a place where the main characters are in too deep. I can’t wait to move on to the next book and see where it leads.
