A Woman's Power: Threads that Bind Us to God Reviews

I have found so often that the Lord brings things into my life when I need them most desperately.

This book is one of those things.

At the end of chapter two, I read the following:

“Live up to the great and magnificent inheritance which the Lord God, your Father in Heaven, has provided for you,” said President Gordon B. Hinckley. “Rise above the dust of the world. Know that you are daughters of God, children with a divine birthright. Walk in the sun with your heads high, knowing that you are loved and honored, that you are a part of his kingdom, and that there is for you a great work to be done which cannot be left to others.” (Color changed for emphasis)

I will admit, I've felt rather powerless and worthless in many aspects of my life for several years now. Many of you know that my children were adopted from a difficult situation and dealt with multiple types of abuse. They are good children at heart, but struggle so much with certain impulses that at times I've wondered if they would end up going on missions and making a difference in the world, with all the good I see in them, or if they would end up in jail, having given in to the temptations that seem to drive them.

That's pretty hard on a mom. I know their problems are not my fault. Not really. In my head I know that, but sometimes I forget. I forget that I am supposed to be a writer and a teacher and feel as if I fail there as well.

Well, according to Fay Klinger and President Hinckley, that simply is not true. I am not a failure.

This book outlines a path to belief in ourselves and our Heavenly Father, and gives us tools to grow closer to him and become empowered through HIS power. It was very enlightening. Though designed for women, I think many men would benefit from this book as well. Truth is truth and remains genderless.

I'm not going to give you a full account of what this book is about, because I want you to read it for yourself and gain the power that only God can give. It is definitely from an LDS perspective, but I would imagine that most Christians would benefit from the reading and would have no trouble wading through the things that differ slightly from their own beliefs.

This book touched me--it moved my soul in ways I can't even begin to describe, and for the first time in ages, I feel a spark of power within me. I can do this. I have a calling that no one else has--several of them, actually--and it is time to fulfill them.

Thank you, Fay. This book was beautifully written with wonderful stories, interpretations of the scriptures, and words of counsel to put me on a path of understanding. You've got two thumbs up from me.

This was a book I needed to read right at this time of my life. So many times, things happen that make you feel so powerless. This book helps you realize that you do have the power inside of you to change your life, with the Lord's help.

Faye Klingler also helps you understand how strong you really are, and to just keep trying.

"It is amazing how much more we can handle than we believe we can. Honestly, we have tremendous reserves we’re not even aware of. Our creative abilities will grow as we recognize new avenues to achieve our ambitions. We can reevaluate where we’re headed and how we want to get there. Determine where we are now. What went right? What went wrong? Why? Pat ourselves on the back for trying. We can then begin to feel a sense of sat- isfaction not just for those workable parts that go well and are accomplished, but for the times we tried, even if it didn’t work. The act of trying, or the act of getting back up and trying again, is an accomplishment to be applauded."

There were so many moments, while reading A Woman's Power, that I wanted to stand up and cheer. There were also many "A-hah" moments too. Such as this one...

    A Woman’s Power
    By Fay Klinger
This well-crafted book guides women to a more thoughtful, binding relationship with their Father in Heaven. Scriptural references and stories lead women of all ages toward a more spiritual sense of self. Through prayer and scripture study, a woman can gain knowledge, companionship of the Holy Spirit and confidence in their ability to make wise selection.
A frank discussion concerning cautions in relationships will lead readers to make enlightened choices in friendships and partnerships. Her personal examples lead those who read to know that she truly understands these principles.
The goal-setting chapter is particularly enlightening because it aids the reader in changing wants into goal-statements and daily actions as outlined with specific examples.
The author ends with sections on supporting one another and having patience, abolishing dysfunctional thoughts of ‘I want what I want;’ and ‘What I want should happen right now.’
In a very gospel-oriented way the author leads the reader to healthy thinking skills through scripture study, prayer, and daily actions that will give the reader to a greater spiritual and temporal life.
I recommend this book to all those interested in deeper self-understanding and a greater sense of spirituality.

This is a love book that helped me understand more and have a better relationship with God. The scriptures references and the stories just eased you into relaxing and letting your heart open up. It also helps with personal relationships and friendships. The author lets the reader think of what they want and feel good about what happens either way. The relationships you grow and healthy relationships. I will be sharing this book with my mom a lovely read all woman and daughters should read

Fay Slingler uses threads to show the ways we bind ourselves to God like making Him a priority in our lives, praying and seeking answers, being patient with yourself, etc.
Great book to read for daily inspiration.

I’m not a woman and I haven’t played one on TV. However, I have been married over twenty years and have four daughters (and no sons) so perhaps those are the reasons I was meant to read this book.

I was fearful that this book could be one of those that bash men and point out how women had been oppressed throughout history. Thank goodness that wasn’t the case. If I had to choose one word to describe this book, it would be “inspirational”.

From the beautiful cover to the stylish interior design, everything about this book gives off an impression of dignity. It’s a fitting compliment to the message this book offers. To borrow a quote from the blurb supplied by the publisher, “Uplifting and empowering, this book offers women everywhere a message of hope.”

The book isn’t a long read, but it is packed with information that can be read several times and the reader will get something more from it each time. In a sense, it is much like the scriptures in the regard that depending on where you are in your life or what you are going through, certain things will resonate with you at different times.

“A Woman’s Power” is full of stories from the author’s life, as well as other stories that help the reader relate to the topic she is covering. I find this method very effective. Just as we are told to “liken the scriptures unto ourselves”, Klingler takes this to heart by introducing a concept and then using examples to help the reader connect.

As a man, what did I take away from this book? To be honest, a great number of the subjects discussed aren’t unique to women. I was able to apply many of the concepts to my own life. But more importantly, it helped give me insight to my wife and my daughters. Men and women are different. We have different roles. Society right now is screaming out for equality—but equality doesn’t mean people are exactly the same. Try as I might, I will never be able to get pregnant. I can love and comfort my daughters, but there is something special about the bond between a mother and child that I can’t offer. And I’m all right with that.

At the very least, reading this book has helped me appreciate the women in my life and what I can do to help them reach their full potential.

So, would I recommend other men reading this book? Yes, yes I would. Not only will it help you be a better husband / father / friend, but it could save you from spending nights sleeping on the couch.

Fay Klingler’s goal in The Power of a Woman, Threads that Bind us to God, as I see it, is to give hope and threads of strength that will “sustain us until help arrives and/or our situation changes”. She tells about eight threads that form “a simple, proven pattern for success”. When these threads bind together into a rope, it is obviously stronger. Applying this to a woman’s life is what this inspirational non-fiction is all about. If you are a woman looking for such helpful, uplifting messages, this book is for you. It would make a great gift.
The Power of a Woman is like a manual of advice to savor. Don’t read it fast like I did (in three sittings). I believe the reader will glean more from its pages if she will stop at one chapter per day (or week). Take time to ponder, maybe even implement a goal before reading the next thread. Otherwise, the narrative sometimes leaves an overkill-of-the-message feeling. I loved all the story examples, however.
I was pleasantly surprised by some specific helps, such as the safety list in the Awareness chapter and the breakdown of goal writing steps. I also noticed places where she used different levels of spirituality to reach a multiplicity of women.
The target market is LDS women, but any woman who doesn’t mind reading a few Book of Mormon references would enjoy some or all of this book. I liked the book quite well, a strong three stars.

I enjoyed many of the quotes and anecdotes but am cautious to recommend this book as it is mostly generalizations followed by amazing stories that display the exception more than the rule for how God works in our lives. This could give some people strength while giving others false expectations. Yes, sometimes miracles happen, but that can't be the thread of hope we expect. I am not sure I felt the Spirit through the words, though the author obviously has some great things to share. Like the book flap says, if you are at your whit's end, then this book might give you a thread to hang onto. However, if you are doing alright, it is pretty basic doctrine. After reading the first chapter/introduction, my initial impression is that this book sounds a little hokey and nothing that I don't already hear in any given Relief Society meeting. She actually says on page 4 that this is nothing new. I also don't completely agree with all the scriptural interpretations in this book. I contemplated putting the book down, but after seeing that just about everyone gave it 4 or 5 star ratings, I decided to give it one more try and went ahead and finished it. In the end, it did get a little better but I am not sure I liked it.

    Book Description:
For any woman who's ever felt like she's hanging on by a single thread, this inspiring book reveals the truth: you're surrounded by threads of strength and power that can bring you safety, peace, and lasting happiness. All you have to do is grab hold of them. Uplifting and empowering, this book offers women everywhere a message of hope.

I don't read a lot of nonfiction. It's not that I don't enjoy it; I do. Fiction just tends to have a stronger pull for me.

But I appreciate being inspired by the struggles of real live people--especially women. Fay shares the stories of several as she takes the reader through the chapters, each of which is a tool women can use to help them get through the rough spots of life--and several of them are her own trials and tribulations. I found myself uplifted and encouraged while reading this book.

I tend to collect inspirational quotes, so I thought I'd share a couple from the book.

People who see mistakes as opportunities for learning can keep going as challenges appear.

Our identity--who and what we are, the foundation we work from in making decisions and facing life--must not be based on any title or season in life.

I don't believe in accidents. I think things happen for a reason, at a time when you need to learn some specific lesson. I may find out I'm wrong about that someday, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Which brings me to a book I was asked to review. A Woman's Power: Threads that bind us to God, by Fay A Klinger.

I tend to mostly read thrillers or suspense novels with a few fantasies or romances thrown in. I'm not normally drawn to inspirational books even though they are food for our souls. I forget how good they are.

The very first chapter had me in tears. This book must have been destined to fall into my lap. In every chapter there is something that deeply touches my heart, that brings tears to my eyes.

In this book we are reminded as women, how important we are, how powerful we are, how vital to God's plan we are. It reminds us the importance we play in every aspect of our lives: work, family, self.

It reminds us that we are divine, and part of a divine plan. Inspirational quotes and inspiring scriptures augment what Fay talks about in each chapter. It's a powerful book. One every woman should read whether they are LDS (Mormon) or not.

A Woman's Power is a beautiful witness of a woman's divinity as a daughter of God. Within these chapters, you'll find guidance to strengthen your relationship with Heavenly Father and uplifting stories that, combined, make you want to strive to be the person God knows is inside of you. To just shine and be the best you. I loved this endorsement:

“This book encourages all women to thoughtfully ponder the
opportunity to build a powerful and more trusting relationship
with our Father in Heaven, and to follow specific steps to confirm
our identity as Daughters of God, with inherent rights to personal
safety and the ability to embrace life with confidence and joy.”

This is a book that should be in the hand of every female teen, college student, and women every where.

This a book of empowerment, of exhortation, and of comfort. The chapter titles give us a hint of the principles author Fay A. Klingler addresses: Identity, Prayer, The Word of God, Awareness, Obedience, Goal Setting, Supporting Each Other, and Patience. Using personal examples she has gained throughout her years of growth and service in her church congregation and elsewhere, as well as examples related to her and talks from General Authorities of the LDS Church, Fay helps us understand how a life lived in accordance with Gospel principles binds us to God, our Father, as He has promised, and we can become His Daughters, heirs of all He hath.

This book is well worth reading. Although it is short, Fay has packed it full of insights that will ring true and help us in our daily Christian walk.

  • Lisa (Bookworm Lisa)

This book is a well written non fiction book that helps women see the potential that they have in life and through the eternities.

Fay Klingler has taken her own experiences and the experiences of other women to help inspire and instruct on living a life that is closer to God. She helps the reader understand what it truly means to be a child of God.

She also helps us to understand and identify unhealthy relationships. She strives to help women understand that they are more valuable than many think that they are.

This is a very inspiring book. I think any woman who wants to know more about her relationship with God would benefit from the words she has penned.

One of the best books for women that I have read. Just what I needed. This book is beautiful, empowering, and uplifting.
