Piggy is going fishing with Dad for the very first time, and he couldn’t be more excited. But, when he comes face to face with the bait – an irresistibly cute worm – kindhearted Piggy starts thinking about the sport in a whole new way. This book truly shows people that there are always several ways of doing an activity and no way is perfect or the "right" way, instead it's all about having fun and inventing new activities with those closest to you. I love Piggy's dads willingness to join in one his son's new ways of fishing and that fishing doesn't always mean you have to kill the fish in the end once you have caught it! I have always loved and will always love Scholastic books and the use of color in this book is fantastic! It shows the facial expressions of the father and son perfectly and how much fun they are truly having with one another! In this warm, funny father-son tale, the popular Piggy and Dad move on from a Brand New Reader format to their first full-length picture book, one that’s sure to have loyal fans hooked and that will reel in new friends too. I would read this to 1st- 3rd graders probably and even kindergarteners if they could sit still long enough! A great "what do you think will happen next?" type read aloud book and sure to make the little kiddos laugh! Pigs fishing is also another silly and unique idea that children will wonder why the pigs are fishing and possibly say "only humans can fish". Love the diversity between some of the concepts within the book and recommend it to anyone!

This book is about a pig and his dad and their adventures in going fishing. Piggy has never been fishing and is learning how to do it. When he realizes that a worm is needed to fish...he looks at the worm and the worm at him and he just can't do it. He can't hurt the worm. This book is humorous. Especially the worms. Dad and piggy end up getting donuts and feed them to the fish instead and the fish come up for the donuts. Dad and piggy no longer feel the need to catch the fish but enjoy their time together feeding the fish. :) I liked this book because of the relationship between piggy and dad. They had a great bond and listened well to each other. The transition in the book that was most powerful was when piggy just couldn't put the fish on the hook and asked dad for something different. Dad wasn't upset but instead tried something new together. I would recommend this book to others. Children love it. The love the humor the worm brings to the story- trying to persuade piggy and dad not to end his life. :) I would use this in class to discuss the pictures and how well the go hand in hand with what the author is trying to say.

Young piggy is headed to go fishing with his dad and he is very excited until he realizes just how much patience fishing really takes. When it comes time for piggy to put the bait on the fishing pole—a cute live worm—he begins to think about fishing in a whole new light. During their adventure he ends up using bread as bait and he and his father have a wonderful time and just when piggy falls asleep, he has a fish on his line. But, when piggy pulls the line up, he sees a cute little fishy scared as can be and so he lets it go. The book ends with dad and piggy going back and feeding the fish and warning the fish of all the hooks. This book is so cute because it shows how dad and piggy were able to have a great time and still make piggy happy when he wanted to throw the fish back. I absolutely loved the ending of the book and felt that the illustrations perfectly matched and helped reinforce the message in the book. I highly suggest reading this book; it’s a good one.

This is another picture book from the "Let's Go Fishing" bundle I picked up at the library last week. In this one, a little pig goes fishing with his father but can't bring himself to use a worm as bait or keep the fish he catches. It has a nice little bit about how to be patient while fishing, so in that regard it would be good to read to a kid preparing for his or her first fishing trip. However, this probably isn't the best book to introduce fishing if you would actually like your child to catch and keep fish without feeling sad about it.

My 4 1/2 year old son loved this story. He especially got a kick out of the ending. I've yet to take him fishing so I was hoping that the story wouldn't influence him too much. I guess I'll find out when the weather is better.

A pig & his dad go fishing but the little pig finds a better way to fish that doesn't involve worms on a hook or killing fish.
