Mouse and the Moon Reviews

  • Abigail

Little Harvest Mouse goes searching for the moon when that heavenly body disappears one dark night, discovering that Duck, Squirrel and Rabbit also have a special relationship with her. Each animal thinks the moon is his, and that she lives in a different place - in the pond, in the tree, in the mountains - but after they survive a storm together and the moon reappears, they realize that she belongs to them all...

British author/illustrator team M. Christina Butler and Tina Macnaughton, who are probably best known for their series of picture-books about
    Little Hedgehog
and his friends, return to the sweet anthropomorphic animal story in Mouse and the Moon. Pairing an engaging tale with cute illustrations, the book would make a good bedtime story for younger picture-book audiences who enjoy such fare. It has a bit of sparkle in the artwork, in the form of the moon, which will undoubtedly have added appeal for some.

    My kids really like it.

This book was really cute. I loved all the characters, the story is sweet and simple, and the illustrations are really pretty as well. The colors are awesome, and if you're a fan of glitter, the moon in the book is very sparkly and glittery! Full of texture too.

  • Michelle

I love how the moon was glittery, glitter you can touch. And cute art

  • Brit Coffee and a book

    Adorable and fun

  • Betsy Ellor

A very cute, quiet, heartwarming book about finding unexpected new friends with a little help from the moon. Perfect for bedtime.

  • Dax

Super adorable book about how others view the same thing and how that can bond us together in search of our commonalities.

  • Heidi-Marie

Definite cheese. Still cute. A good book on friendship. Maybe even sharing or perspective--which is a bit much for a younger crowd, but who knows? Illustrations are adorable and my favorite part. Except for the glittery moon. Sorry. I just don't like glitter. I think it makes things look chintzy and cheap.

This could work well in a PJ storytime, or any other storytime when it's evening/night.

Little Harvest Mouse's only friend, his very own moon, is missing one cold, windy night but while searching for it, the mouse makes new friends and discovers something very important about the moon.

    mommy review:
Good story, nice illustrations but the glittery moon was too distracting. We'll try it again later

    Alice review:
    "Moon scratchy"

  • Melissa

A little trite & didactic, but I did like how all the different animals had a different mental "space" for the moon--in the pond, in the branches, on the mountain.

  • April

Very cute! I enjoyed the illustrations.
