  Mark Martin’s guest issues of TMNT are collected in this Classics volume, and to say the stories are a mixed bag would be an understatement. There’s some decent ideas here, as well as some crazy looking art that I know many enjoy, but none of it really gels together all that well, for met at least. It’s just a really weird and goofy set of guest issues that I wouldn’t recommend unless you love all things Ninja Turtles or Mark Martin. Just too cartooney and not for me at all.

  Wow! I grew up on the live action TMNT movies and the classic cartoon but this was so much more! The stories have an eighties flare, their is a psychadelic feel, and time travel. I will definitely order the rest of the re-prints from the library... on a side note, there is no sign of be-bop, rocksteady, or krang. this was a bit of a letdown for me.

  Looney Tunes na lsd. Naprosto ujetý, nic tu nedává smysl, art je uplnej cartoon... To samo o sobě neznamená blbej komiks ale v tomhle případě jo. V 90% nudí, v 10% se snažíte aspoň pochopit dějovou kostru a dialogy. Naprosto nedůležitý pro čtení želv. Při příštím čtení tohle rád vynechám.

  I didn't love this book. The first volume had stories that were wacky and fun. This book tries to take that to another level and falls short. There is a time travel story throughout this volume. It has some good moments. It felt out of place with what I read previously and didn't give the turtles enough focus. I think it works in the greater setting that the turtles inhabit, but most people that pick this up aren't going to be looking for that.

  Good lord. So I got this collection as I have finished up the TMNT Ultimate Collection and am looking to fill in the gaps left from that. So I figured I' go here and get issues 16, 22, and 23 of the original run. Why would they leave this out of the ultimate collection I wondered to myself. The easy answer is probably, that the Ultimate Collection wanted to stick to stuff Eastman and Laird were directly involved with. A possible answer I have come up with? Because this is freaking terrible.
  
  Listen, while I haven't read all of TMNT, I've read a fair deal. I know the turtles team up with some zany characters and have some wacky adventures, like Fugitoid or Renet the Timestress. But this? This is just dumb.
  
  So first of all it is time travel. Sure, turtles have done this before, not out of the turtles comfort zone. But it's just so stupid! There is a little girl named Dale, who was originally a super smart mutant fetus baby tentacle monstrosity thing who traveled back in time to get you to get her parents to not enact the actions that will turn her into a mutant super smart baby thinger. But then also she comes back in time, as her unmutated selves to thank the turtles for doing that. Oh, and that? That is there only action that has any relevance to the story at all. Characters (or really the same character) pops in and out in a manor that is supposed to be clever I'm sure, but it's just ridiculous. And you know what? Almost nothing the turtles do have any baring on the story that happens. It's like the author remembered every few pages that he was writing a turtles story.
  
  Want to know what else happens to the turtles? They turn into shitty pots and pans robots. Seriously. They get blown up, and Splinter puts their brains into kitchen appliances. Because apparently that works? And then they go try to shake money out of some crumbum! As freakin' ovens and microwaves. Its insanity is only outdone by its stupidity!
  
  And the story eventually even becomes entirely unhinged. In the end it becomes a vehicle to shoehorn in a character I am sure the author was trying to get going in his own right, the Gnatrat. Let me tell you, it all becomes decent into madness. Fellow rat Splinter, when not building low tech incredible functional robots to house turtle brains, fires a giant friggen comedy cartoon cannon at Gnatrat (after watching a rousing episode of Speed Racer complete with his own racing helmet. That is Splinter, the zen-like mystical martial art master. Firing a cannon.
  
  It doesn't even feel like a Ninja Turtles comic. It feels like some weird bootleg comic that put them in. Even beyond the weird batshit crazy and stupid things going on, little things are wrong. Donatello has a katana. Leonardo gets called "Leon." I almost gave this 2 stars instead of one. But ultimately I decided this wasn't so bad it was good, it was so bad that it was just kind of fascinating?
  
  Sincerely hoping that Classics Vol 3 will be better.

  This book was like a freakin' drug trip and it was a total mess, but it was also amAZing! The logic of the story barely holds together, but it takes you on a crazy fun ride. I'm a sucker for time travel stories, though, so there's that.

  Let’s start with: I love the old turtles comics, even grew up on the Archie series, so I’m down with the cheesier cartoon version of the series, as well as the goofy and slapstick stuff. This volume isn’t that great, I get what it’s trying to do, and the time it was published in, but it seems like it chases its own tail and looses focus more than once to goof and ambition. Usually, I’m all in on the oddball weird fiction entries into the series, this collected bit - though - just feels like it doesn’t fit

  I'm kind of amazed at how bad this is. I mean, TMNT often goes off the rails with crazy stories, but this one takes the cake. It's a testament to the strength of the brand name that these stories didn't tank the series. This contains colorized versions of original Mirage issues 16, 22, and 23. These make a self-contained trilogy of awfulness. The story is extremely bad, and the Turtles are hardly even in it. (Not even in their own comic!) Instead we are "treated" to a time travel story involving a little girl named Dale who looks like a Cabbage Patch Kid, an alien, and a caveman.
  
  It is bad. I mean, REALLY bad. I've never read a TMNT comic this bad before. The art is horrible. And the story is filled with cuteness and misplaced humor that's not even close to being funny. It's so bad. It's the worst. Worth a look I guess, just to see the series' low point. It surely can't get any worse!

  I love Mark Martin's Gnatrat stuff, but didn't enjoy his take on Turtles that much. For me, the best part was the Gnatrat alternate timeline crossover.
