I wanted to continue Rosa’s and Alessandro’s journey as soon as possible, now that my memories of the first book were fresh. So I picked the second book in the Arcadia trilogy up this morning and read it mostly in one sitting.
What I really enjoy in this book are the two main characters and their relationship. I loved how they evolved from insta-love to something much deeper, a more meaningful and honest relationship where both of them see eye to eye. Both characters felt more mature in this book as well.
The writing style was very enjoyable and had a good flow. It was thrilling to discover the secrets of the Mafia and how everything is connected. It was quite a ride with lots of action, but I didn’t have the feeling it was too much. I liked this one even more than the first and can't wait to start the last book soon. -

**Warning: I may be slightly hysterical and/or incoherent. Possibly because I read the first two of this series in a row and am now thirsting for the third...like Edward Cullen for Bella Swan. *cackles*
1. The Protagonist: Rosa Alcantara. It's no secret that I love Rosa and I could honestly wax poetic about her. She's not as annoying as other YA heroines, and neither is she deeply good and special and wow Rosa you angel! No. Perhaps the best example of this occurs in Arcadia Burns itself, when You can find a more detailed discussion of why Rosa is awesome
here, in my review of the first book in the series.
2. The Setting: Ze Mafia. This is the real stuff, kids. It's good, solid action, and does not wholly comprise of the hero saving the swooning heroine as in majority (let's be honest) YA. It also does not consist of the heroine pulling crazy-ass stunts and always emerging totally unscathed. *loud cheering*
3. The romance. Guess what, guys? They talk. Thank you for being the first YA couple in forever to actually discuss secrets/problems instead of allowing them to blow up. Thank you.And also thank you for being ridiculously funny and adorable bye ily
4. The mythology. Okay, I don't know much about Lycaon, I'll be honest. But the Arcadia series matches what I do know about him. Meyer doesn't twist the stories to fit his.Nephilim being the good guys, anyone?
5. The plot. Because it'sawesomesauce,action-packed, and nicely tied together, with no loopholes that I could see. The plot twists (okay maybe except for one) are the "What?! How?! type rather than "Ha. Hahahaha. As if. How stupid do you think I am?"
6. The Male Lead: Alessandro Carnevare, for being imperfect. Thank you, Alessandro, for being an ambitious, vengeful mafia head, often fairly pigheaded, and also a . Thank you for not patronising/looking down on Rosa even though you do know more about Mafia!life than she does. No, wait, actually, I won't thank you for that because that's what decent dudes do, like thinking of Rosa as your equal. Please teach some of the shitty YA male leads this sorcery. And thank you for not being the kind of person about whom I can say stupid things like "His imperfections make him perfect!!!1"
Supporting Characters & Sub-Plots
7. Trevini and the contessa. Ambition? Check. Genius? Check.
8. Iole. This girl gets me every single time. One second she's doing something ridiculous and the next she's whipping out guns and locking up prisoners.
9. Every Alcantara ever. You thought Florinda and Zoe were hardcore? Ha. Hahaha. Meet Davide and Costanza. That's how you write Mafia leaders.
10. The Mysterious Antagonists: TABULA, because those guys terrify me. Thanks for actual villains wow. -
Ja, nun habe ich auch den zweiten Band der Arkadien Trilogie von Kai Meyer gelesen und dieser Band hat mich genauso begeistern können wie der erste.
Ich mochte die Charaktere immer noch so gerne wie im ersten Band. Vor allem Alessandro ist mir richtig ans Herz gewachsen. Aber auch Rosa ist eine starke Protagonistin, die wirklich weiß was sie will.
Es gab viele spannenden Stellen in diesem Buch und Wendungen mit denen ich nicht gerechnet habe und ich finde, dass ist endlich mal ein zweiter Band, in dem man nicht das Gefühl hat, dass es nur ein "Lückenfüller" ist.
Ich freue mich wahnsinnig darauf den dritten und finalen Band zu lesen, jedoch werde ich damit wohl noch etwas warten, da ich nicht möchte, dass die Trilogie so schnell endet.
Auf jeden Fall kann ich sagen: Ich bin ein großer Kai Meyer Fan geworden! -

Ich bin durchgeflogen. Diese Reihe wird wahrscheinlich eine meiner liebsten werden. Ich liebe das Setting. Sobald ich angefangen hatte zu lesen, hatte ich das Gefühl bei Rosa in Sizilien zu sein.
Rosa hatte gute Chancen eine meiner liebsten Protagonistinnen zu werden. Ich finde sie toll.
Zusammen mit Alessandro sind sie einfach ein unvergleichliches Paar.
Ich liebe den Fantasyaspekt und die ganzen Nebenhandlungsstränge, die Kai Meyer hier weiterspinnt.
Definitiv hat der zweite Band im Vergleich zu dem ersten Band nochmal eins drauf gesetzt.
Ich kann es kaum erwarten wieder in das Setting und die Geschichte abtauchen zu können. Gleichermaßen will ich natürlich nicht, das die Geschichte der beiden mit dem dritten Band zuende geht ... -
Well, I´m already a huge fan of this author and he managed to write yet another great book.
I don´t know what get me so hooked on this trilogy. It´s probably the great mix of urban fantasy, the mafia, a romantic lovestory, the fights to death, thrilling races and a complex storyline with lot of twists and great emotions.
The Arkadien trilogy is something really unique and I can´t wait to see where Kai Meyer leads us to in the 3rd installment.
I´m also in LOVE with the characters!

Took me a while to get into the second book of Kai Meyer's "Arkadien" but it was worth the wait. Honestly, this book is so much better then the first one. And that one I already liked. What I liked here is that there is so much more adventure, suspense and I feel like the relationship between Rosa and Alessandro is more real. Way better then in book 1 where I had problems to understand exactly how they fell in love with each other.
Plus, there are so many new questions thrown in the air and I wanna know what is behind all of it. Seriously, the last pages where totally gripping. Can't wait for book 3 now. -
Nachdem mich "Arkadien erwacht" trotz der Bewertung von 4 Sternen nicht hundertprozentig überzeugen konnte, war ich in Bezug auf den zweiten Band etwas skeptisch und nicht unbedingt motiviert, die Reihe fortzusetzen. Nun habe ich "Arkadien brennt" aber gelesen - und es konnte mich von Anfang an fesseln und begeistern.
Die Geschichte ist spannend, durchgehend interessant und wendungsreich. Der Autor webt mehrere Handlungsstränge geschickt ineinander und liefert dabei einige Enthüllungen, die überraschend und absolut schockierend sind. Am Ende ist man nicht mehr sicher, wem Rosa wirklich vertrauen kann, was genau passiert und was die Motivationen der handelnden Personen sind. Dabei hat mir gefallen, dass die Charaktere wirklich so handeln, wie man es sich von Mafia-Angehörigen vorstellt. Sie sind skrupellos, haben andere moralische Vorstellungen und denken insgesamt vollkommen anders. Auch Rosa und Alessandro sind starke, durchaus berechnende und skrupellose Charaktere - und trotzdem sind sie sympathisch. Dem Autor ist die Balance gelungen. Die Liebesgeschichte der beiden war wieder schön dargestellt und ich mochte, dass sie miteinander geredet haben und es kein unnötiges konstruiertes Drama gab. Das kommt in Romanzen allgemein noch viel zu selten vor, gerade in Young Adult.
In diesem Band hat man einiges mehr über TABULA erfahren, aber alles ist immer noch ziemlich undurchschaubar. Sicher ist, dass es sehr ernstzunehmende Gegner sind, die Rosa und Alessandro gefährlich werden können. Die Bedrohung ist real und dazu gibt es noch andere potentielle Konfliktpunkte und offene Fragen, die mich sehr neugierig auf den letzten Band machen. Also werde ich ihn gleich lesen. -

*Sigh* I have mixed feelings about finishing reading this book. Half of me and my Sicilian soul is sated for the time being and the other half is screaming in Sicilian rage that I have to wait probably another year until the final installment. Curse you year long waits in between books!! Grrr...anyways. The follow-up novel to Arcadia Awakens did not slow down, settle down, or disappoint in any way, shape or animal form, wait, what? OK, so if you have not read Arcadia Awakens I would suggest starting it immediately and come back or keep on reading and be aware of spoilers from the first book. You've been warned.
The plot line continues its snakelike twist through the double dealings and ancient secrets that are commonplace in Rosa and Alessandro's mafioso clans. Can I say first I just love the name Alessandro. It sounds so mysterious and sexy and just so Sicilian, I can't get enough! Anyways, oh wait! One more digression. The cover?! Love, love, a million times love! It flows graphically similar to the first book and I just love this. It is so hardcore and sassy. Ok, now I'm done. Rosa finds herself in many a crazy situation as she tries to uncover what exactly happened to her that awful night a year and a half ago while also trying to wade the very treacherous waters that is her own flesh and blood. Alessandro is doing the same to keep his clan under control and be respected as their new capo.
I absolutely loved the advancement in Rosa's characterization. Awakens finds her an emotional wreck and not always sure of her own feelings and choices. Arcadia Burns she is still uncertain but there is also a determination in her that wills her to make difficulty choices and also live with the consequences. I felt like cheering for her every time she came into her own and demanded that things be done her way. She really developed as a character and as a woman and her take charge attitude was amazing to see! Maybe it is the Sicilian rage that I know I have hibernating beneath my skin but seeing her go all Mafia badass with her guns and no mercy made me proud. I know it sounds weird but when it is your family that has been wronged or the person you're in love with, that would send me into a blind rage any day of the week...just sayin'. Alessandro was similar. He took command of his decisions and behind the scenes made some decisions that would not be popular by popular vote, but he does what he has to do.
The description of the landscape was just as beautiful this time around and I fell in love with reading this book. The plot changes were incredible. Things occurred that I would have never seen coming and am still in shock over. The constant shifting of trust and alliances has you guessing at every turn of the page and I couldn't flip them fast enough. Rosa and Alessandro's relationship development was a guilty pleasure of mine. It is so nice to read about characters that trust each other because they feel it is right and do not listen to outside variables. They grew to need each other and not in a co-dependent and nauseating way. Refreshing. It felt like a mature relationship development rather than an immature declaration of naive teenagers.
The theme of loyalty is still very present and persistent. I loved seeing this explored and develop even further during this book. I also love the discussion of right vs. wrong. Clearly these people all play their part in organized crime but Rosa and Alessandro seem so different about it. They do what they have to do based on their own moral code no matter who the wrongdoing person is. They do what is right based on morality, not blind mafioso tradition. This was so interesting and such a different look on what objectively would solely crime and illegal activities.
I cannot WAIT to see where the final book takes us and what secrets will be revealed. Ugh, I'm so sad I have to wait another year! It's ok, I will drown my sorrows in many more books that I want to read...*sigh* -
Ich mag Kai Meyers Ideen wirklich gern. Ich bin jedes Mal wieder fasziniert, was für eine komplexe Welt er sich ausdenken kann. Ich würde meine Zeit in Arkadien auch keinesfalls als verschwendet bezeichnen, aber wie schon nach dem ersten Teil -
Arkadien erwacht- bin ich am Ende nicht sonderlich begeistert.
Ich glaube das liegt zu großen Teilen an Rosa. Ich finde ihre Figur unheimlich schwierig. Sie ist oft so abgeklärt und sarakastisch, dass ich sie in emotionalen Momenten nicht richtig ernst nehmen kann. Ich weiß bei ihr nie woran ich bin, ich finde einfach keinen Zugang zu ihr (das mit den Suicide Queens am Anfang fand ich z.B. seltsam und hätte es nicht mit Rosa in Verbindung gebracht). Alessandro kommt mir dagegen wärmer und einladender vor, aber von ihm kriegt man so schrecklich wenig mit.
Der Schreibstil gefällt mir vor allem bei Kämpfen und Verwandlungen sehr gut. Die Jagd durch den Central Park war wirklich spannend und gleichzeitig ein wenig gruselig.
Die Dialoge im Buch klingen zwar zwischen den Seiten stimmig, aber ich finde man kann sie nicht ins echte Leben übertragen, da würden sie gestelzt rüberkommen.
Die ganzen ungewohnten Namen und dass kaum Fakten aus Teil 1 wiederholt wurden, hat mir einige Verständnisschwierigkeiten bereitet. Vielleicht sollte ich allein deshalb nicht ganz so lang mit dem dritten Teil -
Arkadien fällt - warten, ein bisschen Lust hab ich ja schon drauf. -
Auch den zweiten Teil der Trilogie fand ich gut zu lesen.
Rosa reist nach New York um ihre Mutter zu ihrem Vater zu befragen und findet mehr über ihn heraus als sie erwartet hat.
Ich bin auf jeden Fall gespannt wie sich die immer neuen Rätsel in Band 3 auflösen werden und was tatsächlich hinter TABULA steckt. Ich vergebe auch für Teil 2 vier Sterne. -

Inhalt:
Rosas Leben entwickelt sich mehr und mehr zu einem Problem. Seit dem Tod ihrer Tante und Schwester muss sie den Alcantara Clan so gut wie alleine führen. Sie muss sich immer wieder behaupten und ihre Position verdeutlichen, damit sie nicht einfach übergangen wird von ihrem Clan. Während Rosa mit den Familiengeschäften kämpft, gerät ihre Beziehung zu Alessandro, dem Oberhaupt der verfeindeten Carnevare, immer mehr ins Blickfeld von Rosas Clan. Die durch Rosas Beziehung sie als Oberhaupt nicht richtig akzeptieren wollen. Doch für Rosa hören die Probleme nicht mit den Mafiaclan auf, sondern beginnen erst. Denn Rosa hat immer noch Schwierigkeiten ihre Verwandlung zu kontrollieren, was ihr zu schaffen macht. Während sie probiert sich in den Griff zu kriegen, rücken weitere Fragen vor. Was hat es mit den geheimnisvollen Statuten aus dem Meer auf sich? Und wieso scheint es gerade eine Verbindung zu Rosas scheußlicher Vergangenheit in New York zu geben? Rätsel um Rätsel, die Rosa endlich lösen will …

Meinung:
“Arkadien brennt” ist der zweite Teil der Arkadien Reihe von Kai Meyer. Der Roman schließt sich nahtlos an den vorherigen Teil an, sodass man direkt wieder in die Geschichte um Rosa und Alessandro einsteigt.
Auch im zweiten Roman spielt Rosa wieder die Hauptrolle. Die Geschichte wird aus ihrer Perspektive erzählt. Man merkt ihr an, dass sie langsam reifer wird und die Konsequenzen erahnt, die der Tod ihrer Tante mit sich bringt. Nun liegt es nämlich an Rosa die starke Führungsposition im Alcantara Clan zu übernehmen, was alles andere als einfach ist. Vor allem ihre Beziehung zu Alessandro, der dem verfeindeten Clan der Carnevare angehört, stellt Rosa vor eine harte Probe, denn wegen ihre Beziehung zu ihm zweifel sie in ihrem Clan immer mehr Oberhäupter an, nehmen sie nicht ernst.
»Liebe ist nicht stark. Sie ist so verletzlich wie nur irgendwas. Und wenn wir nicht achtgeben, dann zerbricht sie wie Glas.«

Doch Rosa kämpft. Als Charakter gewinnt sie an Stärke und vor allem Härte. Dennoch erkennt man immer wieder die Rosa vom Anfang, mit ihrer schrägen Art, die sie einfach sympathisch macht. In der weiteren Handlung geht es zudem sehr stark um Rosa, da sie ihre Verwandlung noch immer nicht kontrollieren kann und dies in mach einer Situation ziemlich kritisch wird. Sie übt sich darin, sucht nach der Lösung und gleichzeitig kann sie die Geheimnisse um die seltsamen Panther Statuen nicht vergessen. Doch nicht nur die Stauten bleiben in ihrem Kopf, sondern alles scheint eine seltsame Verbindung zu ihrer Vergangenheit in New York zu haben.
Wie schon erwähnt spielt Rosa die Hauptrolle und nimmt auch einen sehr großen Teil der Handlung ein. Dies liegt einfach daran, dass sie zurück nach New York reist um ihrer Mutter Fragen zu stellen, vor allem über TABULA möchte sie mehr herausfinden. Dabei gerät sie allerdings in einen Hinterhalt und plötzlich findet sie sich bei einer Jagd der Carnevare wieder … Dummerweise richten sich die amerikanischen Carnevare nicht nach Alessandro uns so muss Rosa um ihre Leben kämpfen.
Durch diesen Wandel im Plot steht Rosa auf einmal vor viel mehr Autorität und Verantwortung, als sie es haben wollte. Ihr geplanter Neustart im ersten Roman ist vollkommen gekippt. Sie liebt Alessandro, tut alles für ihn und ihr neues Leben auf Sizilien, das so komplett anders ist. Ich fand sie immer wieder sehr sympathisch und vor allem authentisch. Sie besitzt eine sehr knallharte Fähigkeit wenn es darauf ankommt, was sie aber in der Mafia Szene auch realistisch wirken lässt. Dennoch hat sie auch einen weichen Kern, der mir gefallen hat. Sie zeigt Stärke und Schwächen, dreht ab und an etwas durch, aber dennoch ist sie keine bloße Mörderin. Vor allem durch die Szene der Carnevare Jagd scheint Rosa auch erwachsener zu werden. Der Autor nimmt nun kein Blatt mehr vor den Mund, wenn es um Sex, Gewalt, Vergewaltigung, morden und der Clan Loyalität geht.
Er lächelte. »Rosas Version der drei Worte?«
»O ja.«

Zu Rosa gesellt sich natürlich später auch wieder Alessandro. Mir hat es super gefallen, dass beide zueinander gefunden haben und es dabei auch bleibt. Das Paar stellt sich den Schwierigkeiten und zweifelt selten an ihrer Liebe zueinander, was ich wirklich klasse finde. So gibt es genug Romantik und Schwierigkeiten zwischen Rosa und Alessandro, aber eben auch viel weitere Geschichte. “Arkadien brennt” gehört auf jeden Fall nicht in diese Mainstream Schiene, in der ein weiblicher Protagonistin sich seitenlang nicht für einen Mann entscheiden kann. So etwas gibt es hier schlechtweg nicht, eindeutig spitze!
Wie oben auch schon erwähnt wimmelt es in “Arkadien brennt” vor lauter Geheimnissen, die gelüftet werden müssen. Man erfährt weiteres über die Arkadier und beginnt sich über die eigentliche Entstehung dieser Verwandlungen zu wundern. Kai Meyer wirft hier geschickt Häppchen an Information dem Leser zu. Dieser mythologische Anteil in der Geschichte hat mir mehr und mehr gefallen.
Natürlich ist die Geschichte auch wieder spannend. Was erwartet man anderes von einem Mafiaclan? Es geht teilweise sehr hart zu in der Geschichte und Rosa und Alessandro werfen sich nicht nur in jede Menge Gefahren, sondern auch in Probleme, die eindeutig ihr Leben beenden könnten. Beide Charaktere wollen aber einfach die ganzen Geheimnissen und fiesen Lügen aufdecken, um so endlich zur Ruhe zukommen. Außerdem geht es dieses Mal auch mehr um Rosas Vergewaltigung, denn auch dieses Verbrechen scheint etwas mit den Arkadiern zu tun zu haben.
Die riss die Pistole von ihrer Geisel fort, schwenkte sie in Rosas Richtung und drückte ab.

Insgesamt ist der zweite Band härter und ernster. Rosa und Alessandro kämpfen nicht selten um ihr Leben. Dazu kommen nicht nur Probleme mit den Clans, sondern auch die Organisation TABULA, vor denen sich das Paar in Hut nehmen muss. Ich vergebe für “Arkadien brennt” 4 gute Sterne, denn obgleich die Handlung härter und spannender wurde, merkt man dem Band beim Lesen auch einfach an, dass es sich um einen Zwischenteil handelt. Wodurch der zweite Band ein weniger schwächer wirkt. Ich bin aber in jedem Fall gespannt auf den dritten Band.
Der Schreibstil ist wunderbar. Kai Meyer schreibt nicht zu detailliert, aber die Beschreibungen sind so aussagekräftig, dass ich mich schon selbst wie auf Sizilien gefühlt habe. Dazu wird die Sprache im zweiten Band erwachsener. Probleme werden angesprochen, ebenso Themen wie Sex, Gewalt und Mord. Das ganze macht “Arkadien brennt” zu einer stimmigen Mischung, die aus Rosas Perspektive erzählt wird.
Das Cover finde ich wieder richtig schön. Die Farben und die Gestaltung sind einfach gelungen und haben auch einen konkreten Bezug zum zweiten Band. Die Arkadien Reihe ist in jedem Fall ein Eyecatcher für das Bücherregal.

Das Fazit:
Ich vergebe für “Akradien brennt” 4 Sterne. Die Geschichte ist brisant und erwachsener geworden. Es gibt jedem Menge Spannung, Action und auch Romantik. Mich konnte auch der zweite Band wieder in seinen Bann reißen, jedoch vergebe ich nur 4 Sterne, weil man beim Lesen doch gemerkt hat, dass man einen zweiten Band liest. Ich freue mich jedoch schon wahnsinnig auf den folgenden Band. Die Arkadien Reihe ist auf jeden Fall ein absoluter Lesetipp für all diejenigen, die gerne zu Büchern für junge Erwachsener greifen und die sich mit Fantasy, Action und Romantik beschäftigen. -
A great book! I re-read the first volume in the series the day before yesterday and finally got to read "Arcadia Burns" yesterday. I did not mean to read the whole thing in one sitting; it just... happened.
This one is very different from "Arcadia Awakens". The first quarter of the story is set in New York City. I anticipated that I would not like this part very much (since I really, really enjoy Meyer's descriptions of Sicily and how he somehow perfectly captures the mediterranean vibe), but I actually did. I even would've enjoyed it if Rosa had stayed in the Big Apple a little longer. Additionally, I was quite surprised when she was on her was back to Italy so soon, especially after what happend with the New York Carnevares (I would have expected her to call Alessandro and ask him to try and help Mattia). The part of the story set in Sicily was fine. It was not as thrilling as the New York part, but it was definitely exciting enough. However, there are tons of open questions and I find it hard to imagine that they will all be answered in the third book.
The characters... were fine. I like Alessandro and by now I even like Rosa. I hate Val and Michele with a passion and I am more or less indifferent when it comes to all of the others. Except Iole. I don't know what to think of her. I find her very annoying, but I don't exactly dislike her. Maybe I'll know better after I've read "Arcadia Falls".
The writing was very good. Well, of course, otherwise I would not have been able to read it in one sitting, I guess. (Let me just mention that I read the book in German.)
All in all, this is a great book. It is not quite enough for 5 stars, but it's close. I'm extremely excited to book three, which I have already ordered. I know it will be a while before it arrives and for some reason you can't get physical copies of the German books anymore, which is super annoying. I'll just have to try to be patient... -

Again some of the language when they people converse is stunted and I think it’s a translated issue not a text issue. I which the series has a different translator because I know everything he wants to say with contextual clues but sometimes the turned of phrase as so stagnant like trying to give a literal translation to a fable in a lost tongue.
However the story was explosive and threw us for so many damn loops I can’t wait to see how this thing is going to conclude! -

Bavilo ma to. Bolo to akcnejsie ako v prvej casti, v knihe pre mladez az vela smrti na moj vkus. Ale vsetko tam pekne zapasovalo. Vyskocilo tu vela novych tajomstiev, zacalo sa vsetko zamotavat. Snad mi to v poslednej casti da vsetko zmysel 😂😂😂.

Der zweite Teil konnte mich genauso begeistern wie der erste. Manchmal fängt eine Trilogie ja super an und lässt dann nach. Das kann ich von Arkadien nicht behaupten.

Spre deosebire de primul volum, în ,,Arcadia în flacări” acțiunea este mult mai alertă, intriga mult mai încâlcită și captivantă, iar dezvăluirile făcute pe parcurs, pur și simplu te năucesc. Romanul este o combinație de paranormal, elemente de mitologie și romantism. Momente tensionate, secrete periculoase, comploturi puse la cale de clanurile mafiote, descoperiri șocante, clipe romantice – toate acestea sunt ingredientele de baza ale cărții. Kai Meyer a creat o poveste inedită și originală, care te ține cu sufletul la gură până la final.

VORSICHT: Spoiler für alle, die Band 1 NICHT gelesen haben!!
Nach den Ereignissen des ersten Buches ist Rosa nun das neue Mafiaoberhaupt des Alcantara-Clans. Noch findet sie sich nicht wirklich mit dieser Position zurecht und da ist noch ihre Liebe zu Alessandro, dem Oberhaupt des feindlichen Mafia-Clans.
Rosa beschließt nicht länger vor ihrer Vergangenheit davon zu laufen und fliegt nach New York. Sie möchte etwas über ihren toten Vater und die Geheimnisse des Alcantara-Clans herausfinden. Sie hofft, dass ihre Mutter ihr weiterhelfen kann. Nicht nur in New York, sondern auch, zurück in Sizilien, machen Rosa und Alessandro einige interessante Entdeckungen, die ein paar der Ereignisse in ein neues Licht rücken. Nur gemeinsam sind sie in der Lage das Geheimnis der Arkadier zu lüften, doch sie müssen sich in Acht nehmen, denn ihre Feinde lauern immer direkt hinter ihnen....
Genau wie Band 1 der Arkadien-Reihe habe ich den 2. Band in einer Nacht verschlungen. Ich konnte gar nicht mit Lesen aufhören.
Da wären wir auch schon beim ersten Punkt: Kai Meyer schreibt rasant und lässt dem Leser kaum Zeit zum Atmen. Er bietet keinen langsamen Einstieg, der Leser ist sofort wieder in Rosas und Alessandros Geschichte gefangen und wird mitgerissen.
Der 2. Band bietet etwas mehr Einblick in Rosas Welt. Man erfährt mehr über ihre Vergangenheit und das, was mit ihr passiert ist. Bevor und nach ihrer ersten Verwandlung. Auch ein bisschen mehr über ihre Mutter, ihren Vater, ihrer Familie generell. Rosa ist ein interessanter Charakter. Sie ist kein Charakter, mit dem man sich sofort zu 100% identifiziert, aber genau das macht den Reiz für mich aus. Sie ist kein 08/15 Charakter.
Es werden in diesem Band einige Geheimnisse bezüglich der Vergangenheit und auch der Arkadier gelüftet. Allerdings ergeben sich ungefähr genauso viele neue Geheimnisse. :P Ich fand es interessant, dass Kai Meyer an einer Stelle im Buch eine Referenz zur TV-Serie "LOST" gebracht hat, denn genau daran musste ich beim Lesen auch denken: es werden Geheimnisse hingeworfen und kaum welche gelöst.
Das wäre auch mein einziger Kritikpunkt. Natürlich folgt noch ein Band und die Spannung muss er halten bleiben, doch zu viele ungelöste Geheimnisse....da muss der 3. Band aber wesentlich dicker werden als die ersten beiden Bände.
Rosas und Alessandros Beziehung ist überschattet von ihren Clans, ihrer Verantwortung und der Tatsache, dass sie eine unterschiedliche Art von Arkadiern sind. Dennoch sind sie zusammen und halten sich nicht von einander fern, oder quälen sich damit, dass ihre Liebe aussichtlos ist. Dass ist ein weiterer Pluspunkt für Kai Meyer! Damit unterscheidet sich seine Geschichte ebenfalls von vielen anderen, momentan im Trend liegenden Jugendbüchern dieser Art. Ich mag die Art, wie Rosa und Alessandro miteinander umgehen und zusammen sind. Natürlich hoffe ich, dass die beiden ein wunderbares Happyend in Band 3 finden werden. ;)
Zum Schluss kann ich sagen, dass "Arkadien brennt" eine gute, kurzweilige Unterhaltung ist. Der Spannungsbogen hält sich die ganze Handlung über, mal abgesehen von den vielen Geheimnissen. ;)
Ich bin sehr gespannt, wie es mit den beiden Hauptfiguren weitergehen wird und wohin sie ihr Weg noch führen wird! -
I usually get disappointed in second books of a trilogy very easily, as almost ever seem to build a bridge between the beginning and the ending of the story, but never contains any interesting plot development in itself. Luckily and surprisingly, Arcadia Burns wasn't anything like that. The story beings more or less a few weeks after the ending of Arcadia Awakens and sets up a high speed for the ongoing telling of the story.
Important developments of the story are revealed and Rosa clearly has to face her past before she can go on leading her family into the uprising troubles concering TABULA*. But as clear as this seems to be for the reader, it still isn't for Rosa herself. She doesn't want to discover the cruel facts about her past that she tried not to remember ever since these horrible things happened to her. But she hasn't got any choice. Evidences are brought to her that reveal not only who did bad things to her but also show her that a person seemed to have been involved in these things who she trusted before. Can her feelings for the people she loves survive this awful breach of trust?
In my opinion, not only the characters in Arcadia Burns were once again shown in a very unique and wonderful way, but also the story, once again, made some very surprising changes. I like how Kai Meyer tries and succeeds in leading the reader by the nose. No character we meet in his books, neither dead nor alive, seems to be what we think they are. Whereas I normally don't like that, because I always want to have at least a few characters in book that I can rely on for sure, this time I really enjoyed this development of the story, as it underlines the atmosphere of a Mafia story very well.
I cannot reveal any more without telling you how the story ends (especially as I haven't read Arcadia Falls yet and am not sure for myself how it will end). But this book definitely is as much as worth a read as the first one.

So many new twists!! I simply loved this story.
What I enjoyed more about this book is the complicated plot. When I say complicated I mean, you need to be paying attention cause of all the revelations that are spilled. Rosa is stronger than ever, asking questions, kicking butt, and taking names later. She has grown much since the last book, finally fulfilling her destiny. Each chapter Rosa learns more and more about her family history and what is really going on. The fact that it is more corrupt than a freaking novella had me at the edge of my seat.
The love interest didn't sway from where I want it to be instead, it gave me some peace. Let me tell you that this book is filled with plenty of gasps and what!!! The small amount of peace that Rosa gets from Alessandro balances out the angry and hate. He brings peace to her like she has had it before. I admit that there are several place where the author lead me to believe that I might loose hope in Alessandro. For he is holding some secrets as well, and I'm scared to know what it is. Rosa is in such a fragile state that one mistake can fuel her hatred ever more.
Arcadia Burns is a great sequel that leaves me burning for more. It captures my mind with the great world building and history of the Arkadien's. There is much more to learn, I know it. There's no denying the intricate writing style with awesome characters. Arcadia Burns is sweet! -
Arcadia was a well-done sequel to Arcadia Awakens. Following all the events that have been set into motion from the first novel, we see Rosa and Alessandro try to navigate their way through being capi of their respective Mafia clans, as well as members of an age-old dynasty, not to mention the fact that they're teenagers and as star-crossed in love as you can get.
I was pleasantly surprised by the way the events of Rosa's past came into play. Not pleased in what they were (I felt so sorry for her, even though she wouldn't want anybody to show her pity), but in the fact that they were instrumental in the plot. Had they been left to the first book, they would have simply been vital character development. Once taken to the level they were, they alter the plot as well as continue to shape Rosa's character, and even Alessandro's.
There are themes of growing up in this book, as well as the concept of power--who wields it, what defines it, and how far one is willing to go for it. The fact that Rosa and Alessandro, while taking a lot of their responsibilities in stride, are in fact teenagers who are way in over their heads, was not ignored, and I liked that the two, Rosa especially, were well aware of this fact.
I could go on and on, but basically, this series is incredibly original and exquisitely done, and I cannot wait for the third (final?) installment. -
I think what I like most about these books is the fact that, while kind of sickly sweet, Rosa and Alessandro actually talk to one another. Even when other people and circumstances make it so that keeping secrets might be easier, Rosa just shoves all that away and forges her own path.
But, uh, that's not the point of the book (even if their relationship is a huge part of it and yes, it is still going on strong). To be honest, I find it a bit difficult to summarize all that has happened--there is a lot going on in this book, but it's a steady sort of information drip. Just about everyone is against Rosa and Alessandro, barring a handful of people, and Rosa is hard pressed to find anyone she can rely on, let alone trust.
My issues with these books mainly stem from my inability to really grow attached to the characters. I enjoy Rosa and Alessandro's relationship, but outside of that sphere I get a little exasperated with how things are dealt, or how they react. The plot basically just gives you more and more questions, while doling out answers in teeny amounts. 3 stars. -

Wow that was crazy. I have been putting the rest of the series off because I really wasn't a huge fan of Arcadia Awakens. This book though! I got sucked in. I only took a break to eat dinner. There was just something that made this book read so much easier than the first one. I remember the first book literally putting me to sleep and I was really confused. That wasn't the case with this book. I still couldn't give it 5 stars because it isn't going to be a favorite book for me still. I was originally going to read another book in between this one and the 3rd book, but now I'm probably going to pick up the 3rd book right away.

Damn, this was one amazing read. I flew through the pages and there were so many unexpected holy crap and what the fuck moments in such an awesome and good way that I now can't wait to get my hands on book #3. I hope it'll continue to be so awesome.
The characters are getting more and more interesting and sharp. I especially like the development of Rosa and I can't wait to see how it'll go on with her.
The story took some really interesting turns and there is definately a lot of tension and many questions that need to get an answer. -
Once again I’m impressed how different my view is, years after reading it for the first time.
The pace in part two picked up a lot and both main characters have grown a lot which I liked. I also love how Rosa really likes him but he’s the one simping in their relationship.
Still only four stars bc Rosa and Alessandro keep not telling each other stuff and it annoys me a LOT also Kai Meyer keeps explain stuff that’s been explained before and it’s a bit exasperating when one binge reads it.
