Book one in the Cajun Heat series.

Deputy Daisy Picou is not impressed when Ram Reinhardt prowls into town all rock star swagger and big cat ego. She’s been burned by a lion before and has no intention of playing the fool twice. But with one scorching glance the mating frenzy ignites and passion trumps reason. An intense first encounter levels Daisy’s reservations—and most of her living room. And she’s not so sure she minds.

Ram Reinhardt has burned through and brushed aside just about every adrenaline-inducing thrill life’s thrown at him. But Daisy sets the gold standard for a premium rush. Her combative personality should turn him off, but every time they fight they end up in bed, or on the floor, or against a wall—and the sex is always more combustible than the time before. He’s not about to give that up. Ever.

This story has a Bear Shifting Deputy Sheriff Heroine and a Lion Rock Star Hero that catch each other's sight and smell at a concert. For him the connection is strong and immediate, she seems to be able to fight it easily. The sex is good, but the rest of the story is kind of boring. There was no one situation that stuck out as the climatic turning point, it was all rather flat. The set up for the next book took up a lot of time also. It was a decent mediocre story, but nothing to write home about or present to a book club.

    Hysterically Funny & Sexually Delicious!

This is one of the most humorous, hottest, and brilliantly written paranormal romance novella's I have ever read.  Danica Avet's writing is smooth with visionary scenes that capture your laughter button and will have you in tears from laughing so hard out loud.

The story's creativity of a Metal Rock lead singer (Ram Reinhardt - Lion Shifter) and his journey dealing with the same ole same ole routine dealing with fame, the media, and the ever chasing groupies that willingly throw themselves at him sexually eventually takes a toll on his inner being making him realize his true loneliness.  This is a classically reality we are all familiar with personally or know of from the tab loids we read.  However, by bringing the paranormal element to the story with different types of animal shifters in a civilize community is absolutely brilliant.

I found the story more interesting and exciting learning about the band and thought it very humorous to learn the band group were all different type of cat shifters consisting of two Tigers, a Lion, a Lynx and a Panther.  Of course it is ironic that the lead singer (Ram) would be the Lion - as we know that Lions can Roar - LOL

Ram's character won me over with not only his magnetism of sexuality but because of his back ground raising and how he had a sensitive side to him, he cared about others feelings deep down and that had me melting in Awe - Such a loveable Kitty - LOL

Deputy Daisy cracked me up, one big giant amazon ass of a woman (Bear Shifter) that could kick ass and take names.  It was ironic that she was the law because in real life you never mess with a bear - LOL  I loved Daisy's character, she might not of been a beautiful magazine model but she was beautiful on the inside and most important, she wasn't fake looking like some of these magazine models are.  A hard working  independent woman like myself could totally identify with her.  Her tough attitude made me laugh and I was melting right along with her when she submitted to Ram's charm.

The bantering between Ram and Daisy is a world wind of fun and will have you laughing out loud.  The erotic sexual scenes are smoking hot and intense so get ready for a cold shower after you read this hot number or find your better half and jump his bones. LOL  Danica Avet can write some hot scenes, I mean the scriptive wording is so visual that I could actual feel the fast powerful thrust Ram pounded  Daisy with, it gave me chills down my back.  There are so many great erotic scenes that I would love to tell you about and talk about in a great more length of time but I dont want to spoil the story, lets just say that they will forever be in my dreams they were that good.

Ram and Daisy's characters were definitely the highlight of the story but the other characters such as her mom and dad - OMGwd, they were freakn' hilarious, you have to read this book to find out what they do to put Ram and Daisy in jail. Excuse my language but it was fucking funnier than shit, I think I rolled on the floor laughing out loud with tears in my eyes for 30 minutes before I could pick up the book and start reading it again - I'm still laughing on the inside when I think about it.   Daisy's cousin (best friend) and her long time hated friend were funny too and I am hoping that their story will be the next one in the series.

Overall, this is an excellent read, I am truly a huge fan of Danica Avets, every book I have read of hers have been excellent reads full of fun, lust, love, happiness, some sadness, and just an overall blitz of joy that will last me for a laugh time of memory.  I will totally be JONES-ING for the next book to come out in the series.

Now go buy this  book - LOL

    Fabulous Read!

    My Thoughts:
This wasn't a bad story...closer to average than to stellar. I understand that one premise of the story was to have Ram and Daisy be different so that their love "beat the odds". But, I found that they were so different that I didn't really connect with either of them as characters. Daisy had a bad experience with a lion shifter in her past but she held that experience against Ram even when he showed her at every turn that he was different that the lion she loved in her youth. Ram was fairly likable as a male lead but I just didn't him. They just never seemed to truly connect, IMHO.

Primal Song is a sweet story of shifter romance via the trope of "mating frenzy". Shifter lore allows the love at first sight (or scent) idea to seem credible, and it legitimizes lots of steamy romance scenes.

Deputy sheriff Daisy Picou, a bear shifter, is working security at a County Fair when she sees lion shifter Ram Reinhardt performing with the popular rock band, Saber. Although she is immediately and intensely attracted to Ram, Daisy resists that attraction mightily. She already had her heart broken once by a lion shifter, and she has no desire to go down that road again.

While singing with the band, Ram couldn't help but notice Deputy Picou. When he tries to hook up with Daisy, she fends him off like the strong female that she is. Ram realizes that he will need patience and persistence if he is to persuade her to quit resisting so that they can start living their HEA as mates.

Daisy and Ram are both likeable characters. The romance scenes are explicit. The plot is very light. If that is what you enjoy in a book, you may like
    Primal Song.

Primal Song was an ok read! It did not stand out or impress me. I would have liked to learn more about the other band members (maybe in the other books in the series) and I never felt that connection to the world or characters that I always look for, but we do get some good banter between the main characters, some hot sex, and a world where shifters and humans co-exist peacefully.

Deputy Daisy Picou bear shifter with a tough veneer hides a heart that wants to love. She had a bad experience with a lion shifter in her past and holds that experience against Ram even when he showed her that he was different then the lion she loved in her youth.

Ram Reinhardt was a likable sexy cat shifter. I liked the influence of his cat side being apparent in his grace and lounging ability. He also tried every chance he got to show his mate that she is the only one for him.

Primal Song was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

    Loved this book!

There wasn't anything I did about this story. The characters were well rounded and supported by the other players. I just fell into the story heart first!

  • Vivian

It started slow. Then picked up about chapter 4 or 5. Steamy, later emotional. A future reread.
I forgot, there's humor injected into this. Sometimes funny, sometimes not.

Having not ventured too far off the basic wolf shifter path in a paranormal adventure, Primal Song definitely piqued my interest when I read it was between a lion and a bear. My inner geek of course had to ask “What kind of off spring do a lion and bear create?” “How does this work?” “Is this even possible?” This is, of course, a paranormal romance and the author has full authority to make her story anything she chooses so I pushed my inner geek to the back recesses of my mind and enjoyed the story.

The attraction between Daisy and Ram was instant, spontaneous and on fire! While normally I don’t particularly care for a couple getting hot and heavy so early on in the relationship, it fit these two perfectly. In addition to the main characters steaming up the sheets, there were certainly some scenes in this story that were so silly and comical that I was definitely laughing out loud. I thought I was going to bust a gut when Ram attempted to get a haircut at the Hair Shack or the time Daisy was on the phone with her mom. Daisy’s parents are hilarious as well, although that’s another pairing that had my inner geek going hmmm.

The author did an excellent job of bringing both characters to life. I could easily feel that Ram was lonely and growing tired of his rock star life and wanting something more to come home to at night. I also felt the insecurity, pain, and humiliation Daisy was feeling and worries she had after having been hurt by a “big-city lion” in the past. While there wasn’t a huge twist in the plot or a big murder mystery involved, it was a nice, sweet, scorching hot, love story between two individuals looking for that special someone that I greatly enjoyed.

Overall, if you are looking for a light, slightly silly at times, paranormal that will scorch your eyebrows too, you can’t go wrong with Primal Song. I am eagerly looking forward to book 2 releasing so we get to see the fireworks between Kitty and Monk’s story.

This book is not the first in the series Cajun Heat without reason: clever, sexy, funny and ripe with the flavor of Louisiana, Avet has created a world where shifters and humans live, love and usually co-exist peacefully.

Daisy is a bear shifter and the Deputy, single but wanting to find her mate when potential arrives in the form of Ram, lead singer and lion shifter. In fact, all of Ram’s band mates are cat shifters, but it takes the right motivation to make these cats purr. Ram is a bad bet, logically, for Daisy’s desires: groupies, endless lines of women, fame, media attention and the fact that he is a lion shifter, just like the one who broke her heart.

I adored Daisy: smart, kick ass heroine with a softer side and a body that is not model thin. Her battles with her inner bear are amusing as she tries to talk sense into it, despite raging hormones. Her tough veneer hides a heart of gold and a gooey center: which we discover all about come the sex scenes that are both steamy and frequent.

Ram was cleverly portrayed, with the influence of his cat side being apparent in his grace and lounging ability. The banter between the two, in fact most of the conversations in this book provide giggles, while sounding completely natural. Then there is the sex: incredibly well detailed, steamy, knee-shaking sex. Avet writes a sex scene that neatly incorporates the dominant nature of the characters animal side with a curious give and take that shows the reality of a sexual relationship and the joy that the characters have with one another.

If you are looking for a new sexy shifter series to read: pick up this one. You can’t go wrong.

I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

At 139 pages this one flew by. I wouldn't call it a full length book, it seemed more like a novella, an introductory book into this world. Even then this book being so short, it was smoking HOT!! This is a shifter book, one of those sniff in the air and I know you're my mate books. Did it bother me? Absolutely NOT!

The world building made it seem like shifters were already out in the open. They were everywhere in this book. Just about every type you could think of. Ram is a lion while Daisy is a bear. My favorite is Daisy's cousin and BFF is a Grizzly Bear named Kitty. haha! Go figure!

Ram was hot as ever and of course him being a rockstar and uber rich helped! LOL! Daisy is a cop, she's clearly tough as nails. These two have great chemistry together. The sex is.....very in depth! That's all I'll say about THAT.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next one. :-)

I picked this one up because I read somewhere that is was funny in a Shelly Laureston kinda of way. Not really.

I loved that we have a Bear Shifter Heroine with a Lion Rock Star Hero and the sexy bits and secondary characters are fun. However, the internal conflict that drags on and on for the heroine despite no evidence to support in grates. The set up for the next book in the series in cumbersome and honestly I don't like the next hero and the book bait took up too much of this story. Sadly, the hero was fairly flat in his development.

So, no fun new paranormal writer for me. Sigh.

I loved this book. Danica always has me laughing. Sometimes I get very frustrated with the characters..The story is about a bear and lion shifter..The combination really works..She keeps you enthralled throughout the story..The chemistry between the characters is explosive..Her sex scenes get better each time..I highly recommend this book to everyone..I can not wait to read book 2 in the series..

I Love It.... the story was amazingly funny yet in good sense, not forget the sizzling hot scenes in there.

I am wondering about Monk and Kitty's story.. I bet it will be good as well.

I loved the story of Daisy and Ram. It was easy to fall in love with each character and more than easy to see the love the hero and heroine felt for each other.
