Book two in the Cajun Heat series.
Fashion designer and bear shifter Kitty Chambers thought fifteen years was enough time to get over her first love, Monk Badeaux, but when she sees the sexy cougar again, her mating instincts return and it’s all she can do to keep her paws off him. Despite her wariness, Monk unearths a part of her sexuality she’d never known existed, using it ruthlessly to win her back. Monk is hazardous to her well-being and her heart, but Kitty isn’t sure she stands a chance against all this heat.
If you love something, set it free. Monk Badeaux did that and suffered the consequences. When Kitty comes home, he falls head over heels in love with the independent, no-panty-wearing woman his childhood sweetheart has become. And she hates him. Luck is on his side when he discovers his mate has a streak of exhibitionism he’s more than happy to exploit if it’ll bring them closer. Alleys, school gyms, cars…no location is sacred when a cougar is out to win his mate.

3.5 Stars
I have another one of those rambling, all over the place reviews. I'll try to make it short and lacking as much garble as possible.
First half of the story - Loved it! It was well written. The characters sucked me in and made me hang on the edge of my seat, eager to see how their relationship would develop. And the sex...Damn, the sex was smokin. This was a wickedly hot read.
I was enthralled with Kitty and Monk.
Second half of the story - Well it wasn't really the second half, but maybe the last quarter, I didn't really mark it out. The writing was still witty, filled with a great sense of humour and the sex was still off the chart, but the reason why this book didn't receive a full five stars for me was because I didn't understand some of the actions of Kitty and Monk.
But still, I think this authors writing is awesome. She is talented, knows how to burn the pages with wicked sex and has great loveable characters. This would've been a five star for me if I didn't have those few issues.
Definitely love this authors style. -
I loved Primal Song and was stoked about reading the rest of the series. I was however, a little hesitant after knowing a bit of Kitty and Monk's past. There was a lot of pain and unresolved issues floating in there, but I know better than to doubt Danica's ability to write a good book :) I actually think I enjoyed this more than Primal Song!!
It starts out by Kitty coming home to design the dresses for Daisy's wedding. Kitty and Monk dated all through high-school and Monk broke Kitty's heart into a thousand pieces. After high school there was nothing left for her in that town so she decided to pursue her design career, one that at a certain point was second to Monk. She didn't become a success overnight but she was making a name for herself and slowly climbing up that mountain!! She had a plan in the back of her mind to avoid Monk at all costs. She didn't need to see him and be reminded of all the heartache and pain. But one step into the old high school gym and it all came flooding back. And guess who just happen to be one of the speakers at the event? Oh yeah.....her worst nightmare.
Monk had gone over and over the things that he wanted to say to Kitty. He had replayed the scenario a 100 times inside his head and planned out every avenue of attack...save one. He never expected the breath to literally disappear from his body at the first site of her. When he saw her seated on the bleachers, his speech went right out of his head and he actually had to be nudged into remembering he WAS speaking!! The things that little Kitty-Cat could do to him. But he had some mess to clean up between them, and he swore she would know everything before he lost track of her again. If only she could forgive him.
This was a really hot little read! I love exhibitionist scenes and this book was chalked full of them!! Monk steadily works on her and brings back all the emotions that Kitty had tried so hard to bury. Can they start over again and wipe the slate clean? I'm not going to spoil it by giving anything away, except for the fact I loved it!!!! Excellent, funny, and steamy read!!!! -
funny yet hot...

It's good, but not as good as first. The humor was annoying sometimes. Sex was interesting, but still not as good.
At times, I felt I was reading the author's version of sweet home Alabama (movie). But with shifters. -
Deliciously Kinky!
Danica Avet has done it again. Her excellent story telling has wow'd me and sucked me into the most humorous series with the wittiest and sexiest characters that have come alive on the page. The first book Primal Song gave the reader a little detailed history behind Kitty and Monk's relationship and why Monk treated Kitty so harshly leaving me dying to know more and hoping for a reuniting.
Well this 2nd installment delivers closure with sparks flying off the page. My emotions are in turmoil as one minute I am wanting to castrate Monk for what he did to Kitty but then another minute I truly felt his remorse for his actions and his undying love he felt for Kitty.
In between feeling revengeful and understanding of the surrounding circumstances I was blown away with the chemistry between Kitty and Monk - I mean Danica Avet can write some of the hottest erotic scenes that vividly enhances the imagination past explosion - I'm talking crossing your legs, curling your toes, and a nub twitching for your own release kind of hotness.
The Characters were a lot of fun and Kinky as we learn Kitty and Monk thrive on the thrill of a chance in getting caught having sex in Public or the chance of being watched having sex. There was more to the story besides Kitty and Monk, the reader gets the continued bliss between Deputy Daisy and Rock Star Ram with their wedding. It was also neat and enjoyable to read about the other Cajun characters such as Kitty and Daisy's Parents and Monk's Dad. Their small town demeanor, personalities, and feisty stubbornness will keep you laughing through out the whole book.
I totally look forward to the next book in the Cajun Heat Series and recommend this awesome series to anyone who loves hot paranormal shifter reads.
Great read! -
Second in the Cajun Heat series by Danica Avet, we are told more about Kitty, a bear shifter and fashion designer and her on again off again mate Monk. This series carries with it the same unique and fun feel that the early Sookie Stackhouse stories do: although there aren’t vampires, the human community is aware of and manages to coexist with the shifter community without many difficulties.
Shifter trails are well defined, and the hunters (for this is the bayou area and nearly everyone hunts) are careful about where and what they hunt. Kitty is sought out for her designs by locals and tourists, in fact that is the one thing that brings her pleasure with Monk not around.
Monk was cleverly drawn, without that overwhelming sense of ‘do what I want’ that sometimes comes with male shifters, in fact he is truly bothered by the hurt he caused Kitty, and he tries in multiple inventive ways to show her just how badly he feels. Together the two are fire personified, with a flair for exhibitionism and a penchant for sex in public places. Their hearts call to one another, and it truly is the personification of mated souls.
Delightfully Avet continues to inform us about other characters in the town, we see more of Daisy and Ram, and Daisy’s parents who never fail to entertain. Slowly the cast of characters is growing, with each new introduction bringing another element, another animal and another personality into this mix. A well written, super sexy story that manages to combine clever character building, a world that is familiar and yet unique and several unexpected laughs – this is a series not to miss.
I received an eBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility. -
Fifteen years ago, cougar shifter Monk Badeaux broke his mate’s heart and publicly humiliated her. All because of a dangerous family secret his father told him on the day he claimed her as a mate.
After the humiliation, bear shifter Kitty Chambers left town as soon as she could. Now she has to return for her best friend’s wedding and hope to avoid her first love, Monk, and their past.
Even fifteen years later, their attraction is still there and mating instincts return with a vengeance. For Monk, who never stopped loving her, this is a chance to take a risk and win her back by telling her the truth while taking advantage of their attraction. For Kitty, this may just be the thing to finally get him out of her system once and for all. The battle for love is on. Will Kitty be able to forgive her mate and reclaim him, or will she just move on again?
The story of Kitty and Monk is so much better than the first book in this series. It has all the elements and emotions I usually look for in a book and is more realistic compared to Primal Song. I felt for both Monk and Kitty. Their actions are pretty much justified, though I will admit Kitty’s constant rejections did make my heart break for Monk. One thing really got me though while reading this was a Grizzly bear shifter named Kitty. It had me laughing out loud at times. This book is emotionally fulfilling and all about second chances, forgiving the past, and moving on. Of course, the plus point is you will get to visit all the characters from the first book including Daisy and Ram. A complete read.

After getting a quick glimpse into the history between Monk and Kitty in Book 1 of the Cajun Heat series, I couldn’t wait to read Primal Design and watch the fireworks display. The author definitely did not disappoint. It was great finding out firsthand exactly what happened to cause all the friction between these two. When they finally came together again, the scenes were so hot I thought my tablet was going to spontaneously combust. That scene in the alley especially, oh my! I don’t know about Kitty and Monk but I needed a cold shower after that.
In addition to the steamy love scenes, I enjoyed revisiting our friends from Book 1 which also included witnessing Daisy and Ram’s wedding. While I feel an individual could have easily read this story as a stand-alone, there were a few references to scenes in Book 1 that I feel without having read it, the reader may not have fully understood what was being referred too.
While I understood that had Monk not driven Kitty away back when they were younger due to the “secret” his father shared with him that fateful night, she would have never gone on to become the successful designer that she turned out to be, I could not help but be a bit heartbroken and sad when the ending played out. While we get our happily ever after, I felt a bit bittersweet too. All those wasted years.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed this second book in the Cajun Heat series and look forward to seeing what the author has planned next. -
I think I might of loved this novel just a bit more than the first one. Simply because the emotions felt and seemed a lot stronger. I think it was written a bit better as well. I had to admit to laughing at some scenes in the book. I think I would of freaked out if a bear came running down the street and grabbed my arm to tug me away as well.
