This story is told by Sam, who happens to be cruising down Main Street in the summer, catching glimpses of the gorgeous male bodies strolling around. Right away he spots Blondie, carrying a walking stick and using a sign to hail a taxi.

Sam pulls over and learns Blondie is on his way to the animal hospital. Blondie is gorgeous, but Sam doesn’t need the hassle of dealing with a blind guy or his dog, so he drops him off, never expecting to see him again.

Blondie knows Sam is no cab driver and calls the cops to prevent him from picking up other vulnerable people. After the cops pay him a visit, Sam is furious with Blondie and knows he should forget about him, but it’s just not happening.

Sam continues to pursue Blondie and is rejected at every turn. It takes a lot more than bribing a prickly concierge, a dog toy, flowers, and gifts to warm Kieran’s heart and melt his resistance. Kieran is perfectly capable of taking care of himself and knows that very few men are interested in dating a disabled guy. Sam is persistent, however, and won’t give up until Kieran relents.

Sam is a fun-loving, slutty guy with a big ego. He’s also a very talented artist who lacks ambition. He is starting to fall for Kieran and must prove to him that he can be the kind of man Kieran deserves. It’s a tough challenge for Sam, but he gradually changes and matures. Kieran is a tough nut to crack and it takes a tragedy to finally make him see that Sam is perfect for him in every way.

I loved Sam’s inner thoughts, his artistic expression, Kieran’s dog, and the kinky sex.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable, funny, sweet and heartwarming romance. Blind guys need love too.

Sam’s a struggling artist, and out on the prowl for his latest conquest. Whilst cruising, he sets his sights on a very attractive blind man waiting for a ride, and impersonates a taxi driver to get him in his car. He develops a conscience and nothing happens, but his supposed good deed for the day, backfires 😂 Sam is so shallow, so un PC, I felt really bad for laughing, but I couldn’t help myself. All I can say is, Kieran can give as good as he gets. It was funny/sweet and I was very happy, Sam’s persistence paid off in the end. These two are well matched in EVERY way!

Some suspension of disbelief is required, and Sam’s 180 is quite sudden, but I can be very forgiving when it’s a novella. Felt sure I would round up, but right at the very end, a certain event upsets the status quo. All ends well, but I just found the drama pointless and unnecessary.

*calling all Scarlet's minions -- she has a blind/disabled guy in this story*

Scarlet's asshat characters make me happy. In this book, the asshat is Sam, a struggling artist and playboy extraordinaire who thinks that "his knowledge in bed is impeccable" (seriously, Sam's words, not mine!).

Despite his inner thoughts on how he thinks the blind guy hot and he wants to f*ck him, this story is so delightful because Sam ends up meeting his match. Keiran, the blind guy, is not impressed with Sam pretending as a taxi driver and offers him a ride. I admit that I chuckled in glee when I read Sam's being interrogated by the police. I'm not sure whether police officers will talk that way, but it is fun reading Sam squirms in his own predicament.

However, despite the egostitical way that Sam is being portrayed at first (with his inner thoughts) the story turns out to be pretty sweet. In fact, I can say that this is probably one of the sweetest stories I've read from Ms. Blackwell. There are no push and pull schemes, Sam pursues Keiran and he then realizes he truly cares for the blind Blondie.

It's pretty smooth sailing from the on ... except for the last two chapters where things get a little bit angsty . The ending is a bit rushed though, like angst, angst, happy tears, aaaand the end. Curtain closed.

However, add a a dog that has nine lives, and it charmes my heart throughout. Overall, I am pretty happy with this story. It's less of PWP and less angst.

But as always, this review will come with readers' advisory: it is written by a Scarlet Blackwell's fansclub member -- so I have the right to be biased ^o^.

    Oh my,....
...what happened to my favorite m/m-guilty-pleasure-author-with-a-sting???

    That`s what happened...

I mostly liked this, with some reservations. Sam is a self-proclaimed arrogant asshole. (A Scarlet Blackwell story with an unlikeable character? Quelle surprise!) One day, he sees a blind man trying to hail a taxi and decides to offer him a ride. A misunderstanding ensues, and the blind man, Kieran, accuses Sam of attempted kidnapping. Next, we get some stalkerish behavior from Sam until Kieran agrees to a date. I still wasn't sold at this point, but as Sam falls for Kieran, the story improves and becomes surprisingly sweet.

My main complaint is about the pacing of the story. It's not long, and it feels uneven.

If you've read this author before, this story will seem familiar to you, not in subject matter but certainly in writing style. It manages to be both irritating and enjoyable, but lacks the gleeful awesomeness of her best work (see
    Inferno).

  • Ilhem

I liked the beginning, it was a little sarcastic and funny and boded well.
But the story and the characters turned out sappy, hollow and rushed.
    It wasn't even entertaining.

  • Silkeeeeeereads

Driving down a street, ogling all the pretty men an artist sees a gorgeous blonde man with a cane and a sign reading, "Taxi," he decides to pretend to be a taxi. A sweet romance and love develops after several botched attempts to get Blonde to go out with him.

The reason for four stars instead of five is I felt te end was rushed an unsatisfying.

    DNF @ 3%.

You understand, Reader, I wasn’t trying to deceive him.
    .

Breaking the fourth wall is not my thing, but I don’t think I’ve ever been directly addressed as “Reader” before, and hopefully I never will again, because that instantaneously took me out of the story and killed any desire to get back into it.

This was really a cute read, if not a little disturbing for how bad Sam started out. He redeemed himself beautifully though and his "inappropriate-ness" at the beginning was easily forgiven...especially since a lot of it made me laugh, inappropriately.

Kieran just had bad luck after bad luck tossed his way...and his poor dog, Jackson too. He could have hated the world for his misfortune but, for the most part, he accepted his fate and moved on.

After Kieran and Sam get together and life is rolling along sweetly, and you think it's going to end on a high note, the real Scarlet Blackwell comes out to play, and boy does she ever surprise me. I didn't expect life to be all roses and unicorns for the happy couple, but damn!!!!

    HEA? Yes
    Cheating? No

I don't usually put those two questions in a review but with this lovely author, you never know and I don't want anyone to miss this gem of story.

    Wow, great story!

Fun and almost humorous at the beginning and then it develops into touching and emotionally intense. The twist before the ending was heartwrenching, I cried for real! But the ending was really good and satisfying.

  • Reader S.

I liked the first 80% better than the rest. I hated what happened to Kieran and Jackson the dog in the end. That was too much!!! I didn't need that kind of a thing to show how Sam had changed.

The kinky scene was well done. I liked that.

    Tender and sweet

I did not expect much from this little story. I was wrong. This story packed a beautiful take of love and tenderness. It touched me. I smiled. I cried. I did not want to leave Sam and Blondie.

I have never read this author before, but I will look for more stories by Scarlett Blackwell.

Sam is an artist and a beach bum with very loose morals. He lives for the next man in his bed, soon discarded and looking for another, easily sleeping through the men at the beach and always looking for more. He's fine with his life, in fact he revels in it and is frankly honest about his life. He admits that he's really an asshole that doesn't care more than the casual fuck with a hot man. And he isn't modest about his insatiable bedroom talents.

That all changes when he meets a beautiful blind man holding a sign for a taxi on the side of the road. Thinking to pick him up and hit on him, he ends up giving him a ride, unable to admit once the man assumes he's a taxi driver that he isn't, and declines the payment. In suspicion, the man calls the cops on him and reports it as a kidnapping. The misunderstanding (well, sort of) leads to future meetings between the two as Sam can't get Blind Blondie out of his head.

This is really quite a cute story that started off with just enough animosity and a strange circumstance that it really drew me in. I wanted to find out what happened between these two, one man blind and dealing with his vulnerability in a world where he inhabits such a beautiful body that means very little to him, and another that is obsessed with that body and unwilling to look deeper until it actually smacks him in the face. The transition between that animosity and the other extreme, a loving relationship, is done well and uses the length of the story to draw it out. This made the pacing of the story work well for me, and though I thought it moved rather quickly (scenes transitioned sometimes very quickly with some almost imperceptible bits of narration), it worked best for the plot and what needed to happen for a successful resolution.

My only problem with the story was the ending, and it's purely subjective. It's a bit of an easy device to bring change in the characters and an HEA, but I would have liked to see less. For me, less in a short story is almost always more, and a more realistic look at how Sam was changing without this type of quasi-deus ex machine to show it would have been more satisfying for me.

This is a good story for readers who like to see the enemies to lovers trope and it is satisfying to watch Sam and Kieran's abrasive interactions. The POV is consistently Sam's, and I would have liked to have gotten to know Kieran better, but there really wasn't much time. What is there is satisfying enough for me.

    Recommended.

Direct, blunt, honest - that's the way Sam is. He sees a gorgeous blonde guy, who happens to be blind and uses a slight deception (okay, so maybe it was a really, really silly thing for him to do!)to give him a lift. No malicious intent, just an unique "pick-up", which sets the two men on an interesting journey.

Independent, a bit snarky, dismissive - Kieran keeps trying to give Sam the flick. It doesn't work. "The way to my heart isn't in my pants," he said tartly but I wasn't sure I believed him. I'm a man after all. I know these things."

Sam is persistent and doesn't give up. Keiran is the catalyst that causes Sam to change - rather than just thinking about himself and living the life of a beach-going artist, he wants to look after and protect Keiran. And Keiran, being so strong and determined, is supportive and encouraging of Sam's art. They are very good for each other.

The story follows the emotional growth of the couple as they gradually let each other in, combined with some dramatic elements which help propel them together.

Overall, I enjoyed this short and sweet story with it's happy ending.

A definite change in pace from the last read by Scarlet, but another knock out of the park. The quirkiness and humor in this one just added to the story and overall quality of the book. The characters were fantastically developed, with a pinch of their past revealed. And, the disability aspect was handled with the upmost caution and respect, even though the situation did not have the best start.

“ℍ𝕖𝕪, 𝕀 𝕗𝕦𝕔𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕡𝕚𝕔𝕜𝕖𝕕 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕦𝕡 𝕓𝕖𝕔𝕒𝕦𝕤𝕖 𝕀 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕨𝕖𝕣𝕖 𝕙𝕠𝕥. 𝕀𝕗 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕨𝕣𝕠𝕟𝕘, 𝕚𝕥’𝕤 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕠𝕨𝕟 𝕗𝕒𝕦𝕝𝕥,”

Sam and Kieran were so much fun, especially with their constant bickering upon first meeting. The sexual tension was evident from the start, fireworks erupting on contact. I absolutely loved the changes in San throughout, making me love his character more. And Kieran (Blondie) was fiercely strong, especially with his disability being more recent than expected.

𝙈𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙞𝙢, 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙, 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙖𝙪𝙡.

I just have to comment on Jackson because who doesn’t love dogs?!?! He’s a survivor, just like his owner. 🐾

Sam is a man on the lookout for an easy lay, but when he picks up a good looking blind guy who is looking for a taxi he decides it’s too much and drops him off at the animal hospital, he is then surprised to get a visit from the police. Sam’s life takes a drastic turn when he becomes obsessed with getting Kieran to go out with him but Kieran is having none of it, and it leads to Sam trying his best to convince Kieran that Sam can be the man that Kieran needs.

This is a story that quite surprised me with the drastic change in its characters and such an incredible change it was. Sam just wants to laze around in the sun and pick up hot guys, he does just enough art to let him live by and he is perfectly happy with his life, but when Kieran walks into his life he wants to change so he can be the type of man that deserves a man like Kieran. Kieran doesn’t need a man like Sam in his life, and he doesn’t believe that any man would stick around for long anyway, Kieran finally gives in to Sam’s pursuit but the true test of Sam’s new character is when Kieran needs him the most.

This is one of those stories that make you believe that a leopard really can change his spots. Sam is a character that is very carefree and lives his life how he wants to, but when he is confronted with Kieran it shakes his very foundation and makes him rethink how he lives his life. Kieran is a guy, who has had a hard time, and giving in to someone like Sam is just asking for heartache but Sam manages to break through Kieran’s defences and Kieran is later thankful that he gave Sam a chance or three. I really wasn’t expecting Sam to change as drastically as he did, but it makes a powerful impact later in the book.

I must admit to thinking early on that Sam deserves everything that Kieran dishes out, but as with Kieran he broke down my defences and I finally saw just what a wonderful man Sam was. The relationship is interesting and I found that they were well suited, the sex between them is really hot and there is some heartache for Sam later in the book but he comes through with a true heart and with true love.

I recommend this to those who love difficult beginnings and rocky starts, life changing realisations, standing by the man you love and a very happy ending and plenty of hot sex.

Not everyone is cut out to be a good Samaritan, but the way Sam approaches "trying to be nice" in this story is more than a little disturbing. He may have very good intentions, i.e., giving a ride to a man who seems to need one, but pretending to be a taxi driver when he isn't, knowing the man cannot see him, is going too far. Not that Sam even understands this at the beginning. Thankfully the blind man he gives a ride to is more than his match, and the remainder of the story shows how Sam, to his own surprise, struggles and grows in order to please Kieran and show the man that Sam is worth considering as a partner.

Initially, Sam isn’t really looking for anything permanent. He is an artist, and enjoys life as it happens. Planning is not for him. Running into Kieran changes that. Sam didn’t have bad intentions, and he wasn't evil in the beginning, he was just a little –inconsiderate. He never looks at what he does from anyone else's perspective, and doesn’t think about how they might perceive his actions. Once he does, he begins to change.

Kieran may be blind, but he is tough, He has learned to stand up for himself and is perfectly independent. So much so that he is unable to accept anyone's help or consideration. He, too, has something to learn: accepting support and help does not make him weak. But the level of trust required for him to accept that is enormous. Thank God Sam doesn't give up!

If you're looking for "sweet with a lesson", enjoy a character who grows from an idiot into a man who appreciates his fellow humans, and if you enjoy hot, slightly kinky action between the sheets, you will probably love this book.

This story embodies everything I love about Scarlett Blackwells books.Typical of her usual main guys - who you always start off not really liking, Sam is slick, arrogant, selfish, an obvious player and worst of all extremely non PC!
At the beginning of the story he's just cruising in his car, scoping all the good looking beach guys when he spots a hot blond guy, holding a sign that says Taxi, he realises he's blind when he sees his white stick and after an inner conversation with himself about the pros and cons of getting a blind guy into bed, he stops the car and dupes the blonde hottie into thinking he's a taxi. Naughty!!!! So begins Sam and Kieran's erratic but ultra romantic love story...........
I won't go into any more of the plot because its just sooo good and any other info would spoil it but I will say Kieran ( Blondie ) is no push over and Sam redeems himself to the point where I fell head over heels with him myself. This wonderfull romantic, sexy story made me cringe first, then it made me laugh, that morphed into a constant smile that stayed on my face till the end with a few teary moments slotted in between and by the last page I was left feeling all gooey and fuzzy! Then I read it again.
I adore Scarlett Blackwells books because she takes on subjects that most people shy away from, doesn't sugarcoat them but makes them work in a way that always makes for a compelling ( if not always easy ) read, and she writes the best love scenes ever! Do not miss out on this, it's wicked good.

  • piranha

Fairly enjoyable, but too short for the amount of drama piled onto the end. IMO it would have been better without that entirely, or if the thing with the dog was moved to the end, so we can see a change in how Sam thinks about the dog and let that be our big clue about how much he’s developed. I really enjoyed Sam; he’s an asshat, but for all we know he might actually be a slightly unreliable narrator about himself because he’s built some walls there. We’re not getting as much about Kieran (since we’re not in his head), and I wish we did. Sam converts too quickly from asshat to perfect sweetheart. And the pacing is off due to the extra drama at the end; the story ends too quickly afterwards, and it feels like a waste of emotions.

But there’s enough stuff to like here; Sam’s entertaining, Kieran is fiercely independent and competent and gives Sam sufficient amounts of shit for being an asshat, and both the dog and Kieran’s protective concierge are nice touches.

  • April

Sam's an artist who makes enough money to get by (and that's not bad, believe me!), and leads a good life near the beach with enough gorgeous guys to suit his every need. He's always looking, so when he spots a hot-looking blond guy with a white cane and a sign reading "Taxi" on it, he can't help but stop and ask him if he needs a ride. Sure, he's not a real taxi, but he drops the guy off and doesn't take any money, so no harm, no foul, right? Only police officers show up at this door later saying he's accused of kidnapping...!

Something about this guy has got under Sam's skin, whether it's the indignation or the challenge, he's not sure, but he's determined to find out who the blind blondie is and ...?

This is short, but packs in a lot of good story and characters and lovin'... even a few tears. It definitely made me want to read more by this author.

This is my first Scarlett book and I think I need to compare this with her other books.

This one was quite good but didn't gripped me.

Sam and his stalker behavior was a little creepy but sweet at the same time . And I liked Kieran bluntness when Sam asked him for a date :)

I liked it when Kieran gave him some lessons in the beginning of their relationship.

But my complaint is.... that Kieran shouldn't have to get "that" again. His bindness had already kiling me..but another pain? Better not.

  • Nile Princess

I think I loved it even more on the re-read. Kieran was so cute and Sam was hilarious. Loved Sam put in the work to show Kieran he was serious. The pacing and Sam maturing to appreciate a real relationship were well done.

  • Didi

While I like the story and the characters a lot (always love it when a disabled figure's so confident and sure of himself, or when a "reformed" incorrigible bad boy chased after his heart's desire), the way this ended abruptly just didn't do it for me.
    Thus the 3 stars rating.
