    4 Broken Stars.

Joss was raised as an orphan girl. She never felt loved or wanted, and all she ever wanted was a family and somewhere to belong to.
Brady had a bad childhood with his father, after his mother passing, and swore himself he would never have a family and risk subject them to the same.
One night brought them together. And for some reason they can’t stay away from each other anymore. With their fears and pasts this sounds like a recipe for disaster, right?
Well… add an unexpected pregnancy and watch the explosion begin. Will this curveball throws them together and fight their demons together… or will it break them for good?

I’ve got to say that I liked this one better than the first one, the story was romantic, sweet and steamy, and they were broken enough to bring some good kind of angst.
It was a very good reading for me, so if you’re in the mood for a romantic and steamy reading with a sexy hero, this book is a great choice.

    Rating: 4 Stars.
Characters Development: Despite their ghosts and some small “annoyances” I liked them both. They were sweet together and I loved how their relationship progressed. They reach the “I love You” phase too fast, and it made me feel like their relationship didn’t progress enough, but other than that I really loved them as a couple. It was also nice to see how Marco and Aly ended up after their book!

This was a lovely, sweet and super steamy romance.

Brady Scott, sex God Special Forces soldier, tall, lean, built and totally gorgeous has recently moved to town. He’s been having anger management issues and has been ordered to get his head straight by his Commanding Officers before going back out on active service. Brady has some serious Daddy issues having grown up protecting his younger sister from their drunken, abusive father after their mother died.

He spots and is instantly attracted to Joss who is sitting alone on a blanket at the town Labor Day firework display. She’s got multiple piercings, tattoos and pink streaks in her hair –this is a way of carving out her own identity in the world after she’s grown up alone, in care, after the death of her mother.

When they first meet, the chemistry between Brady and Joss is INCENDIARY. He liquefies her insides and melts her knees with their first kiss and they have a super steamy, deeply passionate one night stand and then they part to go their separate ways, never to see each other again. Well, that’s what they think! Turns out that Brady has moved in next door to Joss and they are now neighbours!

So, after a blazing start to their relationship, you just know that these two are going to take the rockiest path possible together. Brady needs to confront his past before he can move forward and Joss finds his hot and cold mood swings, his anger too much to deal with after the childhood she has lived.

This was a short but very sexy contemporary romance, the story never once felt rushed, the characters are well developed and if you’ve enjoyed Laura Kaye’s books before, you won’t be disappointed with this one.

    4 stars contemporary romance.

I also have total cover lust!

    5 BROKEN HERO STARS.

    description

She shoots, she scores. I feel like a complete winner reading this series by Laura Kaye. Everything about this authors style I love, give me her to do lists and I'd gladly read them. Picking up 'one night with a hero' came as a result of deciding to go on a Brazen book binge and after falling in love with Alyssa and Marco's story from book one in the series's, 'Her forbidden Hero' I was eager to get started on this instalment from Laura Kaye and I can confirm that I loved this story too, possibly even more. Here are my addict, addled book thoughts ...

    What's it all about?
Brady Scott is on leave from his position as a solider in the United States Army Special Forces, before he can make the promotion he has been seeking, his superiors have ordered him to take some time to overcome his anger issues. Brady is a broken, troubled man the ghosts of his troubled childhood and torn past have followed him into adulthood. A tragic loss of his mother in his teens caused his father to turn to alcohol and as a result Brady and his sister fell victim to domestic abuse. Brady took it on himself to be all that his younger sister needed to rely on. As the years have gone by Brady doesn't believe in love or want any part of family life, so long term relationships are out of the question. Jocelyn 'Joss' Daniels has shouldered a tough and heartbreaking upbringing living in foster care all her life. As an adult the one thing she desires is a family of her own, this tough beauty has more than enough love to give and is happy to rise to the challenge of loving the right man. Brady and Joss's lives cross paths and an unexpected chemistry explodes, what they both don't expect is to find is something that could be more. 'One night with a hero' maps the rocky road for these two souls who might just be what they were both looking for.

    What did I love?
Laura Kaye, hits the nail right on the head once again. Emotional, sensual, romantic everything about this book I adored. It had a sweetness laced with heart melting scenes that totally had me wrapped up in the story. Brady and Joss make the best combo for a romance story, they are both a little broken from their own pasts which just made for a more heart warming connection between the characters. Call me silly but I believed their story, I was completely drawn into the drama and love and raced along with the pages desperate for the happily ever after. Although predictable this series is just my cuppa, complete loved up scenes with hot bedroom action all delivered with gorgeous characters makes one special book. This story and author has a like-ability factor that I won't be forgetting soon.

    Final thoughts ...
There's not much more to say other than, give me more Laura Kaye, my one click finger and romantic heart is going to be busy catching up on other books that I have missed by this fantastic author. Yes I'm gushing I realise this but what can I say, I adore Romance and the book delivered - Big time. Don't delay, go grab it Romance addicts ... Enjoy, kisses.

First of all let me say that I still can’t believe that One Night with a Hero has been written by the same author who wrote Hearts in Darkness. I loved and devoured this fabulous little read which featured great writing and wonderful characters. I’m sorry to say it but my biggest issue was that I didn’t recognize the author’s voice anymore! What happened? One Night with a Hero is a disappointment. Everything about this story felt stilted, wooden, forced, exaggerated and the writing is very cheesy. I know what I like but this isn't it.

I have nothing at all against flawed heroes or characters in general. If anything, it makes them interesting and real. However, when the author is drowning the hero’s characterization and issues in a sticky mess of ridiculous melodrama, then the story and its main protagonists can’t hold my attention anymore.

Brady treated Joss like s*it when she told him Frankly, I wanted to hit him. Well, what else could you expect from a first-class jerk anyway? By the way, the The plot was very predictable. On top of that, Joss’s ex-boyfriend

Our hero has HUGE anger management issues. Oh boy, the guy totally freaked out when his sister told him Later on Brady totally lost it again when they were attending Yeah, Brady, get a grip and man up! Ugh! Oh well, and then wonders never cease, right? Out of the blue he became this über, über, über sweet guy. Hence, I found myself battling against a sugar induced coma. The author never came up with a believable transition or a well-explained resolution. As it was, she hardly scratched the surface. Not. Good. Enough. Just another little detail that was so not plausible either…Brady was sick as a dog, highly feverish, vomiting and Joss took care of him...you get the gist…and he was thinking about I would like to meet the man who wants Yup.

Even though the author tried incredibly hard to force my lacrimal glands, I. Just. Couldn't. Cry. If anything, she annoyed me with her cheesy writing. Note to the author: I don’t want to feel forced, it has to happen naturally. I suppose if you dislike the characters then it’s hardly possible to feel anything close to empathy or pity anyway. In fact, I’ve had some serious eye-rolling moments and I wanted it to be over. The only reason it did not end up as another DNF was the fact that I was always hoping it would improve. Oh well, I’ve had to wait till the cows came home. As in never ever.

    The sex
While the steam level was ok, the sex itself was uninspiring, boring and unerotic. While we’re at it…Brady’s come on was so lame. Enough said.

    Overall verdict
The day I never have to see Brady Scott again cannot come too soon for me. Too often the author's voice was saccharine to the point where my teeth hurt, and I thought I was reading one of those 80s or 90s Harlequins. Granted, what does not suit me, may suit you and that's fair enough. Conclusion: don’t mind the Baba rant, just read it and maybe you’ll love it. It’s just not my cuppa. One Night with a Hero is another book that I'm going to put on my shelf books-everyone-loved-but-baba.

Read the first on in this series and really liked it. We got a brief glimpse of Brady in that one.

He and Joss meet at a Park, and get chatting and watch the fireworks together.

Brady is on leave from the military, trying to sort his shit out, so to speak. He has anger issues and was abused by his father as a youngster. When his mother died, his father changed and started drinking. Brady became the surrogate father to his younger sister, Alyssa (the first book was about her)

It was only meant to be a one-night stand.

But fate brought them together again.

He felt he was not worthy to be in a relationship. Swore he would never marry or have children.

Joss had been alone most of her life and was wary also.

The relationship had its ups and downs and it was nice to see that …

    5 Hero Stars!

Brady is in the Special Forces and has to be stateside for a couple of years to undergo counseling for his anger problems which all stem from his "daddy issues."

Joss was an orphan has a child and has her own set of issues to deal with, namely never feeling wanted and no one wanting to keep her.

Brady and Joss meet at a fireworks display where they end up having a picnic together and both decide that a one-night stand is all they want. As fate has a funny way of doing sometimes, they end up being neighbors.

While trying to work through his issues, he can't seem to stay away from Joss. As much as he wants to stay away from her, he feels like a better man when he is with her. But of course, he is male and ends up screwing up and saying stupid crap and thinks he has lost her for good. With a newfound determination, his mission is to prove to Joss that he wants her for good, but is he too late?

I absolutely loved this book. I loved Joss's character. She was funny and sweet and strong, one of my favorite female MCs I have read in a long time.

I started this book knowing that I love Miss Kaye's Heart in Darkness. One Night with a Hero started slow and bit boring to be honest. The ONS meet is bit cheesy. Then, the story picks up at the end where Brady groveling to get Joss back.

The back and forth with the Halloween is just so cute. I love Miss Kaye writing style bringing sweet tender moments to her romance story. The story itself is nothing new. Unexpected pregnancy resulting from ONS, the hero in denial and said a very mean things. Then the groveling. I love good groveling in romance book.

Overall I do enjoy this book very much.

Wow did I looooooooove this one! But I'm stuck--what to say about it that will show how much I loved it?

Well, I won't go into the plot--the book blurb lays it all out there (and even includes a spoiler). I will say that I love a hero with some emotional hangups.. And Brady Scott does have some problems dealing with the anger he feels towards his father. But Brady's biggest problem seems to be that he thinks he will turn out like his father--an angry, abusive man. So rather than subject a woman and possible children to what he might become, he decides that he'll deny himself the opportunity to fall in love and have a family. But then he meets Joss Daniels, and the attraction that he feels for her starts messing with his head. He doesn't want to want her, but he can't help himself. Or can he?

    Brady...

I loved Joss and Brady. Loved them. I loved how strong Joss was to get through her crappy childhood and make something of herself. I loved her sassiness and the fact that she didn't play games. I loved her passion for Brady. I loved how she told him to get lost when he said some awful things to her. I laughed with her. I cried with her. I was right there with her, urging her to give Brady another chance! Especially when he kept giving her the little 'gifts'....This part of the story brought some tears to my eyes. God, I just loved their whole complicated romance!

    Joss...

Needless to say, this was one steamy, romantic read. Some of the places where "sailor boy" (Joss's nickname for Brady) and "sweetness' got together (her truck, the kitchen counter), and how they went about it...have a cold drink handy because you're going to feel every heated moment!

    After reading the novella
Hearts in Darkness by this author--and absolutely loving it--I decided to see if she could top it with a full length book. And I think she did. This author has a wonderful voice. I love her dialogue and her character's inner-dialogue. I love the way she fleshes out her characters' background story. I love the little details she provides to round out the book; the description of Joss's apartment, the breakfast she makes for Brady, the details of how Joss took care of Brady when he was sick...all the little things that get you really immersed in the story--this author does an awesome job. What a storyteller. Not every erotic romance comes with a good story, but Laura Kaye really delivers in this respect. I think I found another author to add to my 'favorites' list! 5 big stars

When his gaze returned to hers, his eyes were filled with heat, wide and penetrating and intense. Erotic tension filled the narrow space between them and made it hard to breathe.

I first noticed this book the day of its release. It was advertised on Facebook and I immediately loved the cover. I loved the blurb. And the pièce de résistance: The story was written by Laura Kaye. I love this author! Her stories are normally filled with hot Alpha leading males and are very, very steamy. There was no resisting this one, so I instantly picked it up and read it one setting.

Built. Light-brown hair kissed by the sun with a hint of blond. All that lean, bare muscle.
Sex on a freaking stick. And a soldier to boot. Bet he looked seriously fine in his dress uniform. Panties probably dropped at the mere sight – thongs, too. Maybe even like the one she was currently wearing.

Brady is all kinds of delicious. He’s very sexy and very Alpha. However, like most strong Alpha Heroes, he’s got major issues. He wants a promotion within the Army. The only problem is that he won’t get it unless he can resolve his daddy issues. He grew up with an abusive father and practically raised his baby sister. He doesn’t believe in love, marriage and the whole loving family dynamic. He does, however, believe in lust. On the way back from a run, he notices Joss and is instantly attracted.

Brady was no stranger to women, but this one was full of contradictions that drove him wild. She had a smart mouth and a sharp wit, but blushed in a way that revealed vulnerability.

Joss is beautiful character, inside and out. I love her pink striped hair, tattoos, tongue piercing, a sharp wit, and to top it all off, she has such a kind heart. Her “single” status is a little surprising, but then again, her track record with men with commitment issues is nothing new. Then Brady comes into her life and she still can’t catch a break. After their planned one-night stand, they find out the morning after that they’re next door neighbors. Poor Joss. However, Joss stirs a lot of strange emotions within Brady. He will do whatever it takes to keep up his façade.

She was marking him, as surely as the metal that pierced her tongue and the ink that tattooed her skin marked her.

Yes, this story was predictable, but who cares?! These are the type of stories we all love to read. The sexy, stubborn, commitment phobic Alpha gets his walls torn down by a sweet and loving heroine. Honestly. Plus add on the fact that the steam factor was flat out steamy. How could you not like this? I know I did :)

  • ❤️ Dorsey aka Wrath Lover Reviews ❤️

Great addition to The Hero series. I adored Joss!! Brady & Joss had an agreed upon "one night stand" but naturally nothing ever turns out as planned. Brady is an emotional train wreck and Joss suffers from abandonment issues. Both have very valid reasons for these issues, the road traveled to reach thier HEA was a bumpy one and I thourghly enjoyed the ride. Bonus we get to see plenty of Marco and Aly since Brady is Aly's brother. The epilogue was fulfilling and not leaving me with a million questions.

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a emotional ride this book was.. It had me laughing, made me feel like I was in a room that was 120°F, halfway trough it I was heart broken and yes I even cried a bit because Laura really has the power to suck you right in. While reading I lost track of the things that were happening around me, totally lost track of time.. result when I was finished I looked up and saw it was nearly 4am.. lol

Sweet baby Jesus.. Brady Scott is just to die for.. mm mmm mmm a 100% hot, delicious, sizzling hot, panties drenching hunk of a guy. Heck all of Laura's guys are swoon worthy but this time she out did herself with Brady!! And Joss is THE toughest cookie I have ever met in Laura's books, standing up towards Brady like she did, ready to do whatever she needs to do for her little peanut..

I could not get enough of Brady and Joss!

Right when I was about to start One Night With A Hero, the lovely Laura Kaye updated her blog with her inspiration for Brady:

Holy bulging bicep! Well, that visual certainly heightened my reading experience!

When I heard Her Forbidden Hero was going to have a sequel and that it was going to be Brady Scott's story, I just knew it was going to be good. I had no idea that I would end up loving One Night With A Hero even more!

“This was a one-night-only deal. Exactly his style. He didn't do sleepovers.”

Brady and Joss meet in a such a cute way. He turns on the charm from the moment he notices Joss, and he doesn't waste time figuring out how to spend more time with her. It all leads to her making a one-night-only offer to him. Be prepared, because things get hot and heavy right away! Their one night together becomes more when they find out they're neighbors! You see where this is going, yeah? Brady and Joss are so insatiable together! Their scenes together are super steamy...you have been warned!

“She wrapped her arms around his neck and held him close, surrendering to the hot chemistry that burned so brightly between them.”

I really enjoyed getting to know Joss. She has quite a few tattoos, a pierced tongue, and pink hair highlights. She's quirky, lovable, and works with kids. Her heart has been broken too many times that, like Brady, she's got a wall around it. Brady's protective and possessive side can't help but surface when he's around her, but he's got a lot of anger issues. Let's just say that he doesn't handle the news to her pregnancy too well.

The overall storyline for One Night With A Hero is not original. We've seen it before, a night of giving into lust leads to an unexpected pregnancy, and the guy can't back away fast enough. Kaye gives her characters a unique enough voice to set them apart from the rest. Combine that with her talent to create a love story so emotional that it tugs your heart, and a tortured hero that turns you into a puddle of goo, and you've got yourself one fantastic, satisfying read!

I honestly could not get enough of Brady and Joss! My favorite parts? Well, I have too many! If I listed them all, I'd be describing the entire book. If you're wondering if Marco and Alyssa make an appearance, yes, they do! They are tied into the story very well.

If you loved, Her Forbidden Hero, I'm sure you will enjoy One Night With A Hero as well. I think Kaye's The Heroes books just might be my favorite of her series. Her heroes are simply irresistible!

  • Awilk -never sleeps-

Another great read by Laura Kaye.

This was a quick steamy read that I devoured over a couple of hours. I really liked Joss, the female lead, for the most part. Brady, who I met in the previous book was exactly how I thought he would be. A typical man who has trouble facing his past and seeing his way to a happy future.

Loved to see a little of the couple from the first book.

With how much I enjoyed the two books in this set, I wonder why it took me so long to read them, but then I remembered that good things come to those who wait. I will now go and read the other books I have waiting by this author, and hurrying up and try to catch up with the series she is writing.

  • Saly

I liked the sister's book but this one was a bust. I never liked the hero or the heroine, all they seemed to do was have sex and that is it. I never felt a connection between them beyond a physical one. The first day she meets him she as sex with him in her truck and then they find out they are neighbours. The hero is all kind of messed up from the violence of his father and himself turns nuts many times in the book. The heroine turns up pregnant, he questions her morals, regrets it and then goes about making up for it. I just finished the book because I started it and that is not a good thing.

  • Gitte TotallyBookedBlog

I love Laura Kaye’s stories, they have hot romance, they have humour and a spectrum of emotions for real every day issues. She sucks you right into her story from the start and spits you out with a satisfied heartfelt and emotional sigh when you’ve turned the last page.

One Night with a Hero was a great sequel to Her Forbidden Hero, was it predictable…yeah kind of, did this influence my enjoyment? Nope not at all! Laura writes sexy indulgence with just the right amount of emotional angst that makes this reminiscent of a glass of your favourite wine accompanied by a handmade exquisite chocolate truffle. You know the kind I mean I am sure.

We have Brady; Brady is just lush! A very sexy, gorgeous, tall, built and very alpha Special Forces soldier, but he comes with huge emotional barriers.

Brady had a pretty messed up childhood. He grew up with his sister under their abusive father’s hand after their Mum died. As a consequence he does not believe in love, marriage or commitment. Rather he is the king of one night stands…he believes in lust!

Brady has recently moved into town as he has real anger management issues and is under instructions to get his head straight. These issues all stem from his childhood and Brady struggles to get a handle on his emotions.

Then we have Joss; Joss is wild and an absolutely beautiful woman inside out. Joss has such a big heart but a real sucky track record with men and their commitment issues.

As someone who yes has had pink hair, have piercings and tattoos I loved this character, it was real nice to have this heroine who was that bit different to the typical!! Joss comes across as confident yet has an endearing vulnerability. She has a quick wit and is pretty clued up.

Joss and Brady meet by accident. He sees her sat in the park reading, looking desolate. The immediate chemistry between Brady and Joss is intense and hot and that night after an extremely passionate one night stand is where their journey begins…the plan was never to see each other again! Yeah like that was ever going to happen hahaha…

So I loved this story it was a quick sexy romantic read with well-developed characters and not once did it feel rushed or lacking. I can definitely recommend this series.

  • Cheesecake

I picked up the audio version of this old fave of mine as soon as it was available. The reader is great and I enjoyed it even more the second time around.
If you've read the first book then you know Bradey and Elise's dad is a abusive and emotionally crippled since the death of their mom when they were teens. While Elise has sought help for it, Bradey is only just seeing that he may need it too. He has just moved through life on auto pilot being a soldier and only having ONSes... Until he meets Joss.
Joss was an orphan and is used to not being 'needed'. But she's practical and doesn't let it bring her down. But of course Bradey, as much as he pushes all her 'right' buttons, he ends up pushing all her wrong buttons too. She wants to be needed and he;s afraid of finding out he's like his dad.
Maybe they might have found their way on their own over a longer period of time, but some faulty birth control brings it all to a moment of crisis and Bradey fails big time.
I loved the way Joss stands up for herself. And I loved the way Bradey takes control of his life so he can woo her back. Wonderful groveling! And for once I totally understood why he reacted the way he did.
There's even a sweet little epilogue to help tie things up.
I like this story because there's almost a poetic timing in the way they come together. Just when they most needed to find love.
Was nice to get a couple cameos of the MCs from the previous book too.
    Safety is all good

Good one!! Super quick easy read.... Good steam, hot sexy times, sweet HEA.. I liked it!!!

Review Posted on Talk Supe 11/13/12

In One Night with a Hero, we are reacquainted with Army Special Forces Sgt., Brady Scott, whom we met in Her Forbidden Hero. Brady has recently moved back to the States after his commanding officers have ordered him to seek some help with his anger management issues. Although Brady isn’t ready to admit he’s got a problem we learn that his issues all stem from the abusive past he and his younger sister, Alyssa, had to endure when they were younger. His outlook on love, marriage, and kids is skewed, which is why he sticks to one-night-stands and prohibits himself from getting close with women.

“This was a one-night-only deal. Exactly his style. He didn't do sleepovers. He didn't call the next day. He didn't make plans.”

Jocelyn ‘Joss’ Daniels has been on her own since she was twelve years old. After being alone for a majority of her life, Joss longs to find someone who can finally give her a family of her own. So when Joss runs into her ex-boyfriend, who obviously has moved on and started a family with his new woman, Joss is left feeling hurt, disappointed and mostly alone. Again. When Brady approaches Joss at the park, she is instantly attracted to the sexy soldier. Although she's still feeling a little raw after her break-up, Joss resolves to let herself enjoy a night of passion and uninhibited sex the sexy stranger.

The attraction that Brady and Joss feel for each other is so intense and all consuming that they actually fail to make it back to Joss' house. Instead, the two end up having car sex in a dark and (mostly) abandoned parking lot. The couple parts ways thinking they will never run into each other again. Not only do they meet again but find out the next morning that they are actually neighbors. The both try to ignore each other but the magnetism between them is too intense end up going back to each other. Things only cool off when Joss finds out she's pregnant.

Although I really enjoyed the hot and steamy magnetism between the two at the beginning, the story really picks up after Joss finds out she's pregnant. Brady was broken and damaged during his formidable teenage years and the abuse he'd endured from his father took away his sense of safety, belonging and self-worth; which in turn made him to never allow himself to love a woman or let someone have the chance to love him. Regardless of growing up as an orphan, Joss, has such a big heart and has an abundance of love to give to those around her. So when Brady dismisses her and their unborn child, Joss, is utterly hurt that someone could be so cold and turn them away. Brady and Joss are both at such a fragile state when they meet each other that their road to happily after isn't easy or pain free. I really enjoyed watching Brady and Joss find their way back to each other and the lengths they must go through to find their happily ever after ending.

Laura Kaye has really out done herself with One Night with a Hero. Ms. Kaye had me squealing from all the cute, sweet, and steamy scenes between Brady and Joss. Although this book is only 180 pages, the story never felt rushed and the characters were well developed. You really got a sense of who Brady and Joss were and Laura's writing talents allows you to get to know her characters without dragging out the story. One Night with a Hero is the perfect blend of a sweet and steamy romance with a mix of emotional turmoil and angst that makes the story real and tangible. Laura has a talent for creating likable and relatable characters that makes if hard for you to step away from the story until you reach the very end.

This is the third Laura Kaye book that I have ended up loving and she's definitely made her way into my auto-buy author list. If she keeps turning out romance books like this, One Night with a Hero certainly won't be the last book I read from her. If you've read any of Laura Kaye's books, then you most definitely don't want to miss this. And if you're new to Laura Kaye, believe me when I say that she will be able to turn you into a quick fan after reading this book.

Laura Kaye, you out did yourself this time. Ms. Kaye will leave you wanting more than one night with the scrumptious Army Special Forces Sgt., Brady Scott. He exceeded my expectations of what his character would be like and his lady love, Joss Daniels, was just as lovable. What a wonderful couple and their story totally swept me away. Ms. Kaye totally had me squealing from all of Brady and Joss's cute, sweet and steamy scenes. If you're a fan of Her Forbidden Hero, then you will definitely love One Night with a Hero. Excellent!

    I LOVE LAURA KAYE!

Did you hear that? I was being very SHOUTY, because I freakin' love her! She is so enjoyable to read and I always have to look up new words when reading her books. This book's word? Morass- 1- boggy or muddy ground. 2- a complicated or confused situation. I surely- should have read this word in my favorite genre.

What's so fab? Well, I'm glad you asked. She gives her characters such unique voices. They're all so different. She makes individuals unique and surprising and complex and flawed and wonderful. She makes situations much the same.

Bonus for me - she's a local writer.

Recommended read. Very hot. Very angsty. No cliffy. ;)

Really enjoyed this one - 4 Stars
We have the gorgeous tortured Hero who doesn't think he's good enough to find love. The spunky heroine who grew up rough but rescues the Hero from a life of loneliness. The Hero acts like a jerk more times than you can count but his groveling gets better the more he screws up!
Lots of steamy sex in all kinds of places, lots of breaking up and of course making up!

This is the first I’ve read by Laura Kaye. I actually almost didn’t pick this one up because the blurb tells of a one night stand that leads to a pregnancy. Not my favorite set-up. But the cover is so hot (I can’t help myself!) I decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did.

Brady Scott who is in the Army Special Forces is home on leave. He grew up with an abusive father and has temper issues himself (although he is nothing like his father). He is close with his sister and recently bought a new townhouse. He is home for three months with orders from the Army therapist to make amends with his father so he can be cleared for promotion. While running one day, he sees a woman crying and can’t help but stop to ask if she is okay. This woman is Joss Daniels, who saw her ex with his new girlfriend at the store and emotions overtook her. Joss runs a community center for disadvantaged kids, and takes one look at the shirtless, sweaty, and oh so sexy Brady, and thinks this is exactly the distraction she needs.

After a picnic dinner, things get heated as they agree to have a one night stand. Brady doesn’t want any commitment, and Joss is just fine with that. (The one night stand is verra hot too). What they don’t’ know is that Brady actually bought the town house right next door to Joss. They also don’t realize the condom and birth control pills will fail them this night.

Joss actually doesn’t’ discover she is pregnant until halfway through the book, giving them time to get to know each other. Their one night stand turns into multiple night stands before she finds out she is pregnant. Brady though has anger and temper issues, and while he likes Joss and is very attracted to her, he ends up pushing her away a lot, confusing her. When he finds out she is pregnant he doesn’t react well. But I liked that. It was a messy reaction that fit him and I very much feel like he redeems himself for his bad behavior.

What I didn’t like was his rushed declaration of love. It just seemed to come out of nowhere and I wasn’t convinced he actually loved her. It was out of the blue and I didn’t buy it. We also don’t get a lot of time in this book with the two of them happy and together. They are either just getting to know each other or Brady is working on reestablishing the relationship. Once they truly decide to be together, the book ends. I wanted more happy times with them.

However, this book is hot. Really hot. I like that the author takes a chance with Brady and makes him not super likable at first, and I like how she turns him around. I enjoyed the heroine and even the pregnancy worked for me. I wish the declaration of love and they happy times in the book had been drawn out more. The book needed more pages. But I’ll read the next by this author for sure.

    Rating: C+

4.5 stars. Absolutely enjoyable story. This is the second book in the series. I didn’t read the first one and found that this book works well as a stand-alone.

    description

Army Special Forces Sgt. Brady Scott and Joss Daniels meet at a park. They’re attracted to each other, they talk, they flirt, have a picnic lunch and when night comes they end up having a quickie in the front seat of her truck. It was supposed to be a one-time deal, no regrets and no repeats. This changes the next morning when they realize Brady is Joss’ new next door neighbour.

Brady has a lot of personal issues that make him steer away from commitment and relationships - he’s actually never been in one. Raised by an abusive, alcoholic father, the only things that have helped him keep it together are his sister’s love and the support of his best friend and his family. He became his sister’s protector at an early age, shielding her from her father’s rage. When he is placed on probation by the Army for his anger control issues, Brady is forced to realize that his troubled childhood is slowly tearing him apart.

Joss was raised in a home for children and foster care. She now works with children and lives a simple life. She’s strong and independent, a unique character with her piercings, tattoos and pink highlights. All she wants is to feel wanted, a family of her own. She seeks commitment and unconditional love, and opens her heart to Brady.

When Joss tells Brady that she’s pregnant (technically not a spoiler since it is stated in the blurb), Brady is afraid that he might be too much like his father, so he runs in the opposite direction. Joss is devasted and is once again forced to deal with abandonment issues.

This is a sweet story of love, forgiveness, and finding the strength to overcome fears. The book is short, but it never feels like anything is left unsaid. The sex is very steamy but also fun. I loved watching Brady and Joss together, he made her feel beautiful and she made him laugh. Brady acted like a jerk a couple of times, but I truly believe his heart was in the right place. Very sweet HEA!

Here's the thing I've learned this past year about Laura Kaye - do not start one of her books when it's bedtime because the next thing you know, it's 2 am and you've finished. And than you're left all sorts of hot and bothered and dreaming of her characters and in this case it was uber sexy Brady.

Lord have mercy Laura can write! To date, I haven't been disappointed with anything Laura's published. It's such a comfort to know you're going to get quality writing when one of her books lands in your hand.

So we met Brady when his sister hooked up with his best-friend, Marco, in Her Forbidden Hero. The moment I read about him, I know I asked Laura if Brady was getting his own story and it was only days after when she confirmed, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity to review One Night with a Hero.

Enthralled from the moment I started, I couldn't put it down. I love absolutely every minute of this story. From the torment that Brady put himself through to the stark realization that he is nothing like his father - this character was so well written it's hard to believe he's fictional. Add to his rough exterior is the no non-sense Joss and you have a scoring fire on each page.

One Night with a Hero isn't a must read - it's an ABSOLUTE read! You'll be better for it!

And because Laura is so awesome - we'll be announcing her giveaway later this afternoon so be sure to check back!

SO... Now I am writing the review....
    What is this book?
a waste of my time. Not even a beach read/train read. I was really annoyed reading this book.
