The cottage by the sea offers Amy a refuge to mourn her brother’s death and perhaps even discover a new love. But what if Ben’s death was no accident?
Rosemary Cottage on the Outer Banks of North Carolina has been in Amy Lang’s family for generations and offers her a haven within its peaceful walls. There she hopes to discover what really happened to her brother, Ben, even as she tries to come to grips with his death in the ocean months before.
She hopes the Coast Guard team will help her find closure, but they are quick to dismiss her concerns of foul play. Everyone in Hope Beach regards the suspicious e-mail she received as a vicious prank. When it seems discovering what happened to Ben will take longer than she expected, Amy moves her midwifery practice to Hope Beach.
Coast Guard officer Curtis Ireland may hold the key to many of her questions, but he also hides a secret that will change her world forever. And her own secrets could tear apart the fragile love developing between them. Will Amy have the courage to put down her mask and let Curtis love her for who she is? And can they both weather the danger that threatens to destroy the most precious thing in their lives?

Rosemary Cottage (Hope Beach, #2) Reviews

  • Lorraine Montgomery

Rosemary Cottage is the fourth book I've read by Colleen Coble and is possibly the best of those — suspenseful, lots of twists, and insightful into human nature and how we really don't know those we think we know best — that I've read.  The setting is an island off the southeast coast of the US called Hope Island and the main character is a midwife whose brother Ben has disappeared, presumed drowned, possibly disposed of by sharks.  Suspicious of foul play, Amy teams up with Coast Guard officer Curtis Ireland whose sister, Gina, had been run down by a motor boat a few weeks earlier.  Together, they are able to link the two incidents and work to track down the killer.

Complicating matters for Curtis and Amy is the fact that Curtis believes Gina's daughter, Raine was Ben's daughter.  He's worried her wealthy parents will try to take Raine from him if they find out and he thinks Ben is scum for not having married Gina.  His Aunt Edith who has moved in with him and is helping him raise Raine, thinks they should be told and arranges for it to come out.  More and more, Amy and Curtis have to face facts about their siblings that are both shocking and disturbing.  In the midst of the danger, an escalating resentment, and an undeniable attraction, they have to hold on to their faith and try to understand and accept that the ones they thought they knew best might not have been what they seemed at all.

Added to the mix, is an election campaign and a politician Amy's family has known and supported for years arrives to campaign and offers to help in any way to uncover the truth.  Curtis, too, thinks highly of the man and Gina had worked on his campaign previously.  Shortly after their arrival, though, Curtis discovers his car has been tampered with and he and Amy narrowly escape the explosion that sends bits of it all over the airport tarmac.  And who is the mysterious waitress who showed up out of nowhere and is trying to get close to Curtis and wangle a babysitting job?

Lots of excitement, characters who aren't what they seem, and clues that aren't revealed too soon but all pull together in the end.  Without spoiling things, there is some romance, some midwife adventures (daring birthing on board a sinking boat), a local festival, and surfing as well as kite surfing.  Well written and full of suspense, this was an excellent mystery/romance.

This is the second book in the Hope Beach series. I found it more dramatic than the first book. The stakes were higher and the action was more exciting.

The story follows Amy, a midwife, who comes to Hope Island to find out what really happened to her brother. She believes that his death was not a surfing accident. There she meets Curtis, a coast guard, whose sister also died and left him to bring up her daughter Raine. Amy and Curtis are drawn together but Curtis is keeping the identity of Raine’s father a secret and Amy has secrets of her own.

The faith elements in this story are not so pronounced as in the first book, but that made them feel more natural to me.

Once again, I enjoyed the romance, and the suspense plot had my heart racing, much more so than the first book.

Looking at the cover you might think this was just a sweet romance but you’d be wrong! It has all the twists and turns of a thriller, combined with action, human drama and lies.

Rosemary Cottage was a really good continuation to the Hope Beach series and I liked it even better than the first book. I liked the mystery of who was the bad guy and the twist near the end was fantastic (did not see it coming!). The romance was nice, too.

All in all, I enjoyed this book and recommend it if you are looking for a nice mystery read.

*I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

Amy Lange comes to Hope Island hoping to find healing and answers to her brother Ben's death. Convinced that his death was not an accident but foul play Amy is desperate to find out what really happened to Ben.

Curtis Ireland has also lost a loved one. His sister Gina died in a boating accident. Now he is raising her daughter. Even though the boat and driver were never found, Curtis never suspected foul play in Gina's death.

When Amy begins asking questions about Ben's death she soon finds that He and Gina's lives were intertwined. Curtis and Amy are attracted to each other but what they find about their respective siblings leaves them at odds with each other and both Ben and Gina's deaths no longer considered accidents.

Becoming more involved with the people and surroundings of Hope Island Amy decides to move to the Island to be close to Curtis and his young niece Raine. Both Amy and Curtis are keeping secrets from each other that could cause heart-ache for both. When their own lives are threatened they are left even more confused about the events leading to Ben and Gina's death. Will the truth be able to set them free or will it tear them apart?

I really enjoyed ROSEMARY COTTAGE. The characters were well developed and believable. The mystery was suspenseful and kept me up to the wee hours of the morning to finish the book. I love the setting of the book as the ocean is one of my favorite places to be. The cozy small-town feel of the island added to the appeal of this mystery/suspense story. I haven't read TIDEWATER INN the first book in the Hope Beach series, but I think that they can be stand-alone reads. My favorite character of the book was Curtis. He was the perfect "hero" and I found his love for his niece and his willingness to overlook some of Amy's more aggressive behavior to be admirable. Amy did get on my nerves a couple of times in her unwillingness to believe that Ben could have been less than the perfect brother she thought of him. Her parents were definitely my least favorite characters of the book. Really, I found them rather loathsome and would have booted them out the door on more than one occasion! If you're a mystery fan I think that you would like this book.

Rosemary Cottage is number two in the Hope Beach series by Colleen Coble. Amy Lang decides to leave the city after her brother dies and move to Rosemary Cottage at Hope Beach North Carolina. On arrival at Rosemary Cottage, Amy decided to investigate her brother's death. The Coast Guard did not believe her and the person who could help Curtis Ireland had no respect for her brother and did not want to help. However, Amy decided to stay and set up her nursing practice and continue her fight for closure. The readers of Rosemary Cottage will continue to follow Amy to find out what happens.

Rosemary Cottage is another fantastic book by Colleen Coble. I do not mine that Colleen Coble mentions religious sayings throughout this book in a way they complement the plot. I love the portrayal of the characters by Colleen Coble and their interaction with each other. Rosemary Cottage is well written and researched by Colleen Coble. Colleen Coble excellently did the describing of the settings of this book.

The readers of Rosemary Cottage will learn about the role of Coast Guard sea and air rescue teams. Also, the readers of Rosemary Cottage will learn about being a midwife in North Carolina.

Amy Lang comes to the cottage on the island to find closure about her brother Ben’s death—or presumed death, because his body was never found. She also wants to investigate some things concerning his death after she received an email from an anonymous person who indicates that Ben’s death is not an accident.

Curtis Ireland’s sister, Gina, died just a few weeks before Ben did. She left her infant daughter, Raine, behind and Curtis took her in and is raising her, together with his Aunt Edith. Curtis is trying to keep Raine’s father a secret, especially from Amy.

Curtis and Amy have known each other for some time, but were never friends. When they meet again they decide to try to figure out what happened to Ben. Have Ben and Gina’s deaths anything to do with each other? How will Amy deal with the accusations about Ben’s strange behavior just before his death?

A story full of suspense and adventure, this is a pleasant read.
I liked the descriptions of the island in this book. It certainly made me want to visit there. The characters were nice and the plotline was pretty well done. This is the second book in the Hope Beach Series, but can easily be read alone.
*Thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy through NetGalley.*

This was a nice beach mystery read! I really enjoyed Amy and Curtis's aunt's (can't remember her name and already returned the book back to the library) time out in the water surfing, and the friendship between them. The aunt is a lot of fun!
There is a lot of suspicious things to figure out on Hope Beach and getting to the bottom of it can prove to be very dangerous for Amy and Curtis! But that doesn't stop them or slow them down! Even with a secret revealed and emotions high in the midst of their searching for the truth! The one thing I didn't like about the story is how Amy and Ben seemed to have been too close for grown brother and sister. It seemed strange to me for her to be so obsessed with her brother, and then to find out all that she did. But otherwise, I enjoyed it and the book offered plenty of mystery and was plenty entertaining!

  • Hannah

I love this cover! It makes me want to go vacation at Hope Beach.

From the moment Amy arrives at Rosemary Cottage, hoping to find her missing brother's killer, she's attracted to Curtis Ireland, who is busy with his Coast Guard rescue work and his orphaned baby niece. She's shocked to discover that her brother's name is on the child's birth certificate; why would he father a child that his family and girlfriend at home knew nothing about? I enjoyed the many twists that ensue as Amy and Curtis hunt for the truth about what happened to both of little Raine's parents.

  • Kathleen (Kat) Smith

    "Dear Amy,

You might want to take a trip to Hope Beach. There is more to Ben's death than you realize. Your brother had secrets - secrets that led to his death. Hypocrisy is one of the worst sins a man can commit. I hate to say it, but he deserved what happened to him.

    From A Friend"

Now Amy Lang finds herself back in the Outer Banks that her and her brother Ben spent so many summers surfing and staying at Rosemary Cottage. Where others have simply ruled her brother's death as a surfing accident, after receiving this cryptic email, Amy believes that there is simply more to it than people are willing to look into. Even her own parents won't support her decision to investigate his death and while she hopes to move her midwife practice to Rosemary Cottage, she hopes in time she can finally put the pieces of her brother's death to rest once and for all.

Curtis Ireland has something in common with Amy Lang. Not only does he find himself attracted to her, but his sister was tragically killed just two short weeks before Amy's brother Ben. The person who ran her over while swimming in a boat has never been found, nor has the boat ever been recovered. All that is left behind besides memories of his sister, Gina, is the baby daughter, Raine, she left to Curtis as legal guardian. He just can't come to terms with the secret he's hiding from Amy and needs to find a way to tell her before she uncovers it on her own while investigating her brothers death.

In the latest novel in A Hope Beach Novel Series from author Colleen Coble, Rosemary Cottage takes us back into the heart of the residents we met in the novel Tidewater Inn. This is a compelling look at how far some people are willing to go to keep their secrets from being discovered even if it means putting others at risk. It seems no matter how truthful that Amy and Curtis want to be, they often times put the feelings of others before there own and will risk their own personal happiness for the sake of keeping things from being said. I guess it's about finding the right time in which to have that honest conversation that needs to be said even if it means that the other person might not be as receptive as you would like. Often times people are defensive without meaning to be just for the sake of avoiding dealing with the truth like both Amy and Curtis have to face, both in their own lives and in the lives of the ones they thought they knew.

I received Rosemary Cottage by Colleen Coble compliments of Litfuse Publicity and Thomas Nelson Publishers for my honest review. I received no monetary compensation for a favorable review. I love that this one picked up right where Tidewater Inn left off and offered a different look into the residents of Hope Island. I found myself wishing I was sitting on the porch overlooking the ocean while reading this one and could even smell the salty air. This was a wonderful mix of both suspense and romance coupled together that you were fighting along with Amy and Curtis to resolve their pasts and move forward in their relationship with one another. I love that feeling of electricity that happens between characters that are destined to be together but fight the attraction even though it's a losing battle no matter what the odds are. This one wins a 4.5 out of 5 stars for me and I can't wait for the next novel in this series. There is even a discussion guide included along with an excerpt of the novel Without A Trace.

  • Sarita

I enjoyed this book a lot. There was a lot of things I didn't see coming, but also a few things I guessed correctly. One portion about Ben I actually suspected from the start.

I liked Curtis's character more than Amy's. Not sure why - it might be the Raine factor, she was just so cute. Their relationship was sweet, though they fought a lot and just continued as if it never happened some times.

The mystery/suspense kept me turning pages and gradually build up to the climax at the end. Even though I correctly guessed some of the plot twists, the mysteries were only really revealed at the end so I never felt like I was missing out on suspense.

The lesson if judgement is one I struggled with a few times myself.

This can be read as a standalone, though the history and development of certain characters were revealed in book 1.

Recommended to fans who enjoy romantic suspense.

  • Wolf (Alpha)

I really like Amy and how she acts. I hope that she can finally accept Ben's death as accidental. I really like that Amy let Curtis into her life and learned to love him. I really liked this book. I thought that is was better than the first one. I can't wait to read more of Colleen Coble's books. I rate this book five stars.

  • Kari Kaczan

Love how I can identify with the characters and real life! Didn't see the twist coming at the end either!

  • Karen

A quaint island, two unexpected and unexplained death and you have the makings of a Christian romance with a little bit of mystery thrown in. Will be reading the rest of the series.

    My Take:
    3.5 Stars
This story takes place in the beautiful Outer Banks of South Carolina at Rosemary Cottage. Rosemary Cottage is a cottage that has been in Amy Lang's family for generations, and she is hoping to figure out if the loss of her brother, Ben, was really an accident or not, as well as grieve his loss. This has been bothering her since it happened. She is determined to find out more about what happened because to her, Ben's strength as a swimmer does not add up to an 'accident', in her mind. She has a gut feeling something is off, and she is even ready to move her midwifery practice there to that location to work if that is what it will take her to find out. She misses her brother dearly, and won't accept his death until she knows for sure what really happened.
Meet Curtis Ireland, a Coast Guard Officer who lives in the area. He has a sister, Gina, who also died in a swimming accident as well. She, too, is a very strong swimmer, and had dreams of winning a gold medal in swimming in the Olympics until 'life' happened to her. That life is now a seven month old little girl she named Raine. In the Prologue of the book we learn her death may very well 'not' have been an accident, the way it was described. Now Raine is left to Curtis to raise, and we get to see just how he handles this huge task!
We have two people who are on a quest to find out exactly what happened to their siblings in what sounds like very similar swimming accidents. Both Amy and Curtis are single, not necessarily looking for love, yet both have so much in common, right to the loss of their siblings. Can and do sparks end up flying between Amy and Curtis while on this quest? This is, after all, Contemporary Romantic Suspense, so it could be! A lot of things happen that throw you for a curve in the 'why' of this story. Twists and turns! Oh, what fun! This was a very enjoyable read.
This is actually Book Two in the Hope Beach novels. Book One is called Tidewater Inn. I never would have known by this author's writing that this book had a previous book to it because you can just pick this book up and start reading it without having to have read Book One at all, at least not that I know of not having read Book One.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story from the very beginning till the very end. This is my first Colleen Coble book! Yes! I have seen a lot of books written by this author, and I have been wanting to try a book out by her to see how she writes for quite some time now, and I thoroughly enjoyed her writing. I would never hesitate to pick up another one of her books, and, in fact, I want to make it a point to pick up one of her newest mystery novels next because in the back of the book they show several ads, but one ad shows four of her mystery novels she has written, and the most recent being "Without A Trace" plus an excerpt!
I received this book for FREE from LitFuse Publicity and the publisher, Thomas Nelson, in exchange to read and write a review about it. It is NOT required for this review to be either positive or negative, but of my own honest opinion. "Free" means I was provided with ZERO MONIES to read this book nor to write this review, but to enjoy the pure pleasure of reading it. I was amazed to discover that I had read the first book in this series and rated it five stars. I began to recall some of the events as I read through this follow-up book, but I just did not find the first book in the series memorable. And after reading last year's review, I discovered that as nice a story as this book is, it falls short of the other's book's success.

Don't get me wrong. The second half of this book is action-packed and chock full of mystery and intrigue. There is no profanity and no sex scenes. Christian principles are emphasized, and it is clear that the primary characters are true Christians. The characterizations are well-orchestrated, and I felt somewhat connected with several of them. The mystery writing is pretty exceptional, and although the end is basically assured, the ride is pretty rocky at times.

My complaint is twofold. First of all, I would have loved for there to be a stronger Christian message like there was in the first book. I was concerned that the author may have been watering down her message to attract more readers. I appreciate the Christian principles, but I prefer a much more substantial message.

My other criticism is that this book follows the same formula that the first book in the series did. While the method works, I don't understand why it takes half of the book to get the story going. In my opinion, Colleen Coble is a better author than this. I still prefer her historical novels, but I would love to see the passion from those novels placed into her contemporary series.

If you have not read the first book in the series, not to worry. This book is definitely a stand-alone. I can recommend it for a quick read and a romantic suspense book that is guaranteed clean.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

This book opens with the killing of single mom Gina Ireland by a man in a boat and from there the suspense just keeps on going to the very end. Gina’s brother Curtis is a USCG search and rescue team member living on Hope Island and raising Raine, Gina’s daughter. He and his aunt Edith have been doing as well as can be expected and settling into their new life when Amy Lang returns to the island.
Amy is also mourning a sibling, her brother Ben who drowned a few months before on the island. Amy has come to the island to look into the circumstances of Ben’s death after getting a mysterious email. Amy and Curtis know each other and are mutually attracted. Amy has no idea that Ben is the father of Raine and is stunned when she finds out. Both Amy and Curtis find themselves enmeshed in a mystery around the circumstances of Raine’s birth and the deaths of their siblings. Their budding romance hits a lot of stumbling blocks related to the complicated relationship of Gina and Ben and the consequences of their actions.
There is romance, mystery, family drama, all kinds of interesting things happening at a very fast pace throughout the book. I started reading and didn’t stop until I was finished with the book. This is my first book by this author and I wondered if there had been a previous book in the series. There is one titled Tidewater Inn which I am going to have to read. This book also sets up a possible future book with two of Curtis’ fellow USCG team members which looks like it would be pretty good.

You'll have an inkling of who should fall in love with whom from the very first chapter of this book - but they won't. Better yet, you'll fall in like with them, and you'll keep turning those pages because you want good things for them - and they're not readily forthcoming. You won't get bored, though, because you won't be able to predict all the twists and turns in this story, which is what master storyteller Colleen Coble planned all along.

You won't care that you can't figure it out, because you'll keep thinking that you have. You'll be able to piece a few bits of information together, sure that you're on the right trail, only to have another mudslide come along and wipe out half of your supposition. You'll have to start all over again with the new information that the sliding mud uncovered, but that's okay - you'll be excited again to be on the trail of the answer.

With each page turned, your heart will become just a bit more attached to Hope Beach and its occupants. With each patient of Amy's you'll pray for a safe delivery and for Curtis to come home after another daring sea rescue. You'll want Raine to be safe and for Heather's motives to come to light and for someone to tell the lovebirds to get with it already and see the Cupid flying about overhead.

    You'll want to - but you can't.

They're only characters in a book.

    Only you forgot that.

    It's that good.

I received a free copy of Rosemary Cottage from LitFuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

You know when you find that certain book? That one where you can settle down and care about the characters as though they are members of your own circle of family and friends? Yep. This book was like that.

First of all, the characters are amazing. You literally can't help but fall in love with them. Usually I can pick a favourite character after just a couple of chapters, that was not the case with this book. Trying to pick a character that I wouldn't have called my favourite was actually the hard part.

The layers of emotion that the author included in this work is rather astounding. I read a lot and as romance is one of my top pick categories, I am always equal parts surprised and amazed when I find something I haven't seen done before. This was refreshing and new.

As the story progresses a mystery begins to unfold along with a romance. This is the kind of relationship between two characters that you really want to see succeed, but at the same time, you know there is a secret that may tear them apart. I kept turning pages seeking answers and resolution to these things, and kept finding myself delighted by the direction the author took things.

This is a novel very much about love and loss, but also about hope for a bright future. I very much recommend this book to anyone looking for a heartfelt romance where love can mean many different things.

This review is based on a Digital ARC from the publisher.

    Rosemary Cottage
    By: Colleen Coble

I loved this book by Colleen Coble! Rosemary Cottage is the second in a series. Tidewater Inn is the first; you do not need to read the first one to enjoy this one. If you love mystery, suspense, and romance you will love this book!

How well do you know your friends, your family? What you don’t know, may surprise you. Amy Lange and Curtis Ireland are trying to figure out why someone killed Amy’s brother Ben and Curtis’ sister Gina. As they dig deeper, they get closer to getting themselves killed. Who resorted to murder to keep Ben and Gina from talking? What are they afraid Curtis and Amy will find out?

No matter what is in your past, God will forgive you. There’s always a way of redemption. This is a key theme that runs through this book. We must forgive others as God forgives us. Can Curtis and Amy let the past go, regardless of what they find out? Or will they let it hold them back from a future together? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

The characters in this book are memorable characters that you can relate to, even the secondary ones. Rosemary Cottage becomes a place you’ll want to go visit, maybe even move to. The people and place become real as you read. The mystery and suspense will keep you turning the pages. I now want to go back and read Tidewater Inn and I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out!!

I received this book free from Thomas Nelson publishers in exchange for a review.

Amy Lange is grieving the loss of her brother Ben and really can't wrap her mind around the fact that it was an "accident." When she receives an email stating that she might want to take a trip to Hope Island hinting that her brother Ben had secrets that actually led to his death, she decides to take the trip to Rosemary Cottage on Hope Island a place that is dear to her hoping to find solace and even thinking of moving her midwifery practice there. Mostly though she is hoping to find the answers she needs so that she can truly understand her brother's death.
While this is the second book in the Hope Beach series by Colleen Coble it can easily be read as a stand alone work. I found myself swept into the story from the beginning pages when Gina, Curtis Ireland's sister is basically run down by a motorboat, thing is she recognized the person on the boat, but who was it? That along with wanting to know about Ben and what happened to him propelled me into this story to find the answers! Suspense filled with more than a few twists kept me turning the pages, and the romance was a nice bonus. Ms. Coble captured the beauty of the area that she writes about, allowing the setting to come to life for me. Overall, anyone who enjoys mystery/suspense with a sweet romance and a nice christian theme woven in will enjoy this one.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review.

The title Rosemary Cottage makes you think of a sweet love story or perhaps a cozy mystery surrounding a family secret. But readers can expect a slow start as the story builds but then an exciting middle and surprising ending as the mystery unravels.

Amy comes to the cottage still reeling from the unsettling death of her brother Ben. Curtis is also recovering from the death of a sibling--his sister, who happened to be connected to Ben. When they begin to talk about the deaths, they realize there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Although I didn't like Amy and Curtis as much as I liked the characters from the first book in this series (Tidewater Inn), I did enjoy the story, mainly because while I figured out a little bit of the story, the ending threw me for a loop. The ending was exciting and makes me hope the author has another book in the series so that we can se how Amy and Curtis are dealing with the final twist.

Fans of Christian suspense will enjoy this book. Although you don't have to read Tidewater Inn first to follow this story, it may be nice since several characters are in both books.

I received this book in exchange for my review. My thoughts are my own.

  • Leigh

I received a ARC copy from NetGalley.

Rosemary Cottage reads like a cross between a Nicholas Spark's novel and a James Patterson's novel. It is a great read full of mystery and intrigue that will keep you guessing until the end. You will not want to put it down.

Amy Lang can't accept her brother Ben's death as an accident. She goes to Hope Beach to look into his death. During this investigation Amy will uncover more than she bargained for. Curtis Ireland is dealing with his own grief from the death of his sister Gina. Together maybe they can come to terms with the deaths of their siblings and prove if their deaths were accidental or not.

Do we really know our love ones? Are we sometimes blinded by that love and refuse to see the things that are right in front of us? These are questions both Amy and Curtis will face. Amy has a loving spirit, always willing to help others. Curtis risks his life everyday as part of the rescue team of the Coast Guard. Both are strong characters. This story grabbed my attention from the very first page and I highly recommend it!

  • Cara Putman

Set on Hope Beach, a fictional location along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I was drawn back into the setting with the characters I came to enjoy in Tidewater Inn. This book is a multi-layered mystery with a wonderful blend of romance. Amy Lange has returned to Rosemary Cottage to mourn the death of her brother. Curtis Ireland still isn't over the death of his sister. The two connect over Curtis' niece Raine. They determine to get to the bottom of what happened and twists keep pitting them against each other even as they are drawn together.

This book kept me guessing even as I anticipated some of the twists. My daughter was absolutely convinced I could never anticipate everything that would happen. She was right -- though I did unwind more of it than she did! I love a book that keeps me guessing. I enjoy books with a satisfying romance. Put the two together, and I am a very happy reader. This book is perfect for those who love romantic mysteries.

  • Beth

This is my first novel by Colleen Coble, and while I enjoyed it, I was not blown away by it. I wasn't particularly compelled to keep reading because of the characters or the prose, but rather the mystery at the novel's center.

I thought the setting of the Outer Banks of North Carolina was really well done - from the pristine beaches that hide dangers beneath to the sweet hometown cafe where Amy went often with her friends, I was really able to envision the scenes.

As is often with suspenseful novels, I felt some of the character's decisions were rash and a bit unrealistic. I'm always skeptical when characters tackle things on their own that would usually be handled by authorities. Maybe I should just stick to stories in the past or in a world of their own. ;)

Perhaps her writing style is just not a style that resonates strongly with me; I know she has a lot of fans. While this wasn't a new favorite, I'm certainly open to reading more by her in the future.

  • Karen

Colleen Coble has such a great way of telling the story and weaving in little hints throughout it that make you really try to figure things out. There's always something at the end that comes as a total surprise to me even if I have figured out something. This was an enjoyable love story and mystery with lots of tension built in. I really enjoyed it! This is book 2 in the Hope Beach series but could easily be read and understood without having read the first book do don't let that hold you back.

I just can't get over how masterful a story teller Colleen Coble is. I've not read one of her books I didn't thoroughly enjoy. This book is no exception! I was hooked from page one! The story moved at just the right pace. Lots of action, mystery, and the right amount of romance. Read my full review, on my blog,
