Mary Pride was "decluttering" before it was trendy. Her what-not-to-do and what-often-isn't-needed lists cut even sharper than the what-to-do's. This is a book that I'd give to all new homeschoolers, and that I wish classroom teachers would read as well. It's the "Uncle Eric" of education.

This little gem, over a quarter century old, fell into my hands many years ago and shaped my idea of what homeschooling can and should be. I have just read it again and have, once again, come to the same conclusion: This is one of the few books that every Christian homeschooler should read.

Although there are many books on homeschooling philosophies and methods, Schoolproof is the only one that covers the everyday possibilities simply and from a completely practical viewpoint, in a comprehensive way, and with a solid Christian basis.

This book has been highly influential on me & I read it on a regular basis for many years.
    I home-ed my kids.
Positives: Validates the function of home schooling as a viable medium for educating children & alleviates the stigma and expectations imposed by those who don't agree with home-ed.
Negatives: Gives the suggestion that standard schooling is bad for your kids, and fuels the guilt of those parents who are unable to home-ed and vilifies those who are not as fundamentalist-conservative in their worldview as Mary Pride is.

This is a wonderful book, only one I've read my Mary Pride. I "Pride" myself in taking two sittings to complete this simple masterpiece. This is a fantastic book. We all need to remind ourselves about what we hope to teach our children. There is a right way of accomplishing just that. Also gives valuable pointers on making education a positive experience for parents and children. I love the concept that simpler is better, and she really demystifies the process of education. Highly Recommend!

Whenever my resolve starts to slip in my devotion to homeschooling, I peruse this book again. Good, thought provoking, practical.
