Amelia Earhart Reviews

What great parents she had! Except the part where they go travel and leave the kids with the grands most of the time.

One of my best friends did a biography report on Amelia Earhart, so I wanted to read about her in a book. She was really adventurous and she was a tomboy. I like baseball, science, books with boys as main characters, rubik's cubes, magic tricks, and other things boys like, so I liked that part about her. One thing that was different about Amelia and me was she wasn't a very good student in school.

Only 7 pages of this book actually talk about Amelia flying so I'm not sure that Amelia Earhart: Adventure in the Sky is the best fit. A better title might have been Amelia Earhart: Her Early Years. I learned a lot about Amelia as a child and how childhood experiences influenced her adulthood. Just wished that there would have been more about her flying because that's what she's famous for. I plan on using this book with guided reading groups. I think kids will enjoy the stories in it.

I was shocked about my own ignorance when I read this book, Who was, Fred Noonan?, and why was he never mentioned? was I just not paying attention? and as always these brief biographies for younger readers by Troll Associates would make a great gift to any library that does not already have them. This was a Good Read.

This biography spends a lot of time making Amelia's childhood come alive, recreating dialog for some of the more memorable episodes. Far less time and detail is given to her adult life.

Francene Sabin's book titled "Amelia Earhart: Adventure in the Sky" is a concise, well-written biography of the famous pilot from Atchison, Kansas.
