Arthur's new puppy causes problems when it tears the living room apart, wets on everything, and refuses to wear a leash.
Arthur is thrilled when he gets a new puppy. He's had a lot of experience with pets so he knows they're as much work as they are fun.
Even so, when Pal tears the living room apart, wets on everything, and refuses to wear his leash, Arthur gets worried. His parents are unhappy with Pal's behavior and even D.W. seems ready to banish the boisterous puppy to the garage. What if Arthur can't control Pal-and Pal gets sent away to live on a farm?

Readers of all ages will laugh out loud as they follow Pal's progress from mischievious scamp to dog show material under the loving guidance of his owner, Arthur.

Arthur's New Puppy (Arthur Adventure Series) Reviews

Arthur and his family learn that puppies are a lot of work. They are very cute. All the hijinks of a puppy ensue in these pages. It's very cute and I think children would love this book.

It's interesting to see the change the artwork goes through for Arthur and his nose. It's much shorter and cuter here, but I think it gets even more round.

Thanks to PBS, we can see and hear the author read this aloud. 💙

Arthur is a beloved character from my childhood, but I'm not sure my future students will be familiar enough with him to read this book without a character introduction. Other than that slight detail, I think this book would be a good one for the shelf! It teaches about responsibility with pets and how hard it can be to train a puppy. Many students may be able to relate to it.

Arthur's New Puppy by Marc Brown is one of my favorite kid's books. It is about Arthur and his new puppy Pal. The puppy is naughty and messes up Arthur's things and messes up the house. Arthur learns it's not easy to take care of a puppy. Arthur is a responsible pet owner. He teaches the puppy to behave and puts on a puppy show for his family. I like this book because Arthur takes care of his puppy.

    Good!

Nice book to read. Really enjoyed the vertical design on my fire HD 7 tablet. The story is very relatable and cute!

  • Kristen Dutkiewicz

Super cute story about how Arthur trained his puppy Pal.

  • Donna Davis

Cute stuff. This was a go-to book for my youngest child, who is way too old for it now. Avoid this book if you don't have a dog and don't plan to let your child get one.

  • Luna

It felt so wordy and didn't flow.

  • Stasia

And of course we love Arthur. I love Arthur. I grew up during the height of Arthur and can quote most of the episodes, because Arthur.

    Arthur is awesome

I used to read all these books to my kids, we also watched the shows. Love and miss those good times.

  • Noor Mahmood

This book is a great book because it shows Arthur taking responsibility of his new dog Pal. I also loved this book because of the TV show that I also used to watch when I was younger. If I were to read this to a group of children they would not have to even know about the tv show. It shows Arthur Taking responsibility and training his dog so his parents won't make the dog live in the Garage.
