A dark and dreadful night. A woman in white lost within a wood. And the only shelter is a house full of murderers. Mixing funhouse tricks, Grand Guignol and a deadly game of cat and mouse, MURDER BY POE is a theatrical reimagining of some of Edgar Allan Poe s most famous tales of terror "The Black Cat," "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," "William Wilson," "The Purloined Letter," "The Mystery of Marie Roget" and "The Fall of the House of Usher." As each haunted figure tells a story of crime and mayhem, the woman must solve the puzzle of the house and the riddle of the man who ushers her into its mysteries.
Murder by PoeActing Edition (Acting Edition for Theater Productions) Reviews
-
Great script! Perfect for high school or community theatre audiences and brilliantly uses technical theatre elements for some great Halloween time story telling. This would be a good one to produce some day.

It felt like a on-the-nose, overt and cursory commentary on certain Poe's tales. I hate it when someone repeats the same story in the name of "adaptation" or "retelling". Dull and boring indeed. The opening and ending was good though, half-cooked nonetheless.

In the words of the director under whom I performed this play, it's an "acid trip". The play actually does a good job of taking many of Poe's works and finding common symbolism. Not extraordinary, but still good, and a good introduction to this famous author.
