8:50 Am October 8, 2005 (Stories of Hope and Courage from the Earthquake in Pakistan) Reviews
-
8:50 AM, 8th October 2005, is the title of the book by Fatima Bhutto and as its obvious from the title as well as the byline, 'Stories of Hope And Courage from The Earthquake In Pakistan'; the book is basically about the gallant survivors of the natural catastrophe that struck the northern areas of Pakistan on October 8, 2005.
The cover of the book is black with a photo of a girl in the corner. It's an apt cover signifying the death and destruction of the Black Saturday.
The author met these survivors at the SACHET hospital Islamabad. The first section 'Survivors' Accounts' has stories of twelve children. These stories that seem very innocent are narrated by the kids mostly. While reading them one tends to get emotional and wonders how come these young children mustered so much courage that day so as to fight against all the odds and to cope with the stress of such testing times.
The second section, 'Volunteers' Accounts' has been narrated by some of those individuals and organizations that helped the victims and lend them medical assistance and contributed in the relief efforts. In one such account, Dr. Behroz Hashim narrated an incident that when he wrote a letter to Bill Gates asking for a donation on the suggestion of few friends. In no time, he received a million dollars from the Microsoft organization!
The third and the final section 'Young Pakistanis' deals with the accounts of those young and compassionate Pakistani students who helped the affected children in their own way.
This book is a must buy for everyone because it is a well-written and beautifully compiled book and also because the royalties and profits will be donated to the earthquake affected children. Go grab your copy now!
