Written R. G. Lee, the "peerless pulpiteer," and published in 1927, the year he became the renown Pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church (Memphis, TN) where he served for 33 years, "Lord, I Believe" is a masterpiece of apologetics--then and still now. Taking the miracles of the Bible one by one, Dr. Lee answers the skeptics with convincing arguments from the realms of nature and man's accomplishments that make the miracles seem not so farfetched after all. He cuts the critics down to size who prefer the conjectures of science (evolution, big bang, millions of years, etc.) over the Word of God. "Denying the Bible miracle wrought by God. Affirming another miracle!! Strange tunes to play on one instrument--simultaneously! I say." Yet overshadowing all these arguments is his rock-ribbed conviction that one you get past, "In the beginning God..." every miracle recorded in the Bible deserves no other response than Lee's refrain, "Lord, I believe." As he succinctly puts it, "Why count almightiness out of your calculations?" Why? indeed. Better to take God at His plain words and say "Amen" to Lee and to the Almighty, "Lord, I believe."
