Review by Catherine, grade 5. I read SCOUT for the AR program at my school. I received just one AR point for this book since it is written for younger readers. Even so, I would read more in this series.
It is a great book for people who love dogs and particularly German Shepherds. The story is about a German Shepherd puppy who needs a home. -
Lizzie and Charlie Peterson foster Scout, an adorable German Shepherd Dog puppy, when 2 potential adopters bow out at the last minute. During a school assembly they see the potential for Scout to become a search and rescue dog after a demonstration by Casey, a GSD owned by one of Mr. Peterson's colleagues on the Search and Rescue team.

Amazing book! Just like the other book. (The Puppy Place: Honey.) If you were wondering, Scout is actually a girl and not a boy. This story was amazing. Okay, I already said that twice but it is! I only have one more book left at home from the library to read and I'm going to read that tomorrow so hopefully some more of this series comes by then. Ellen Miles, please keep on writing these books! They are AMAZING! I've only read two and I love the series! I know you are probably like, "You only read two books and there is still sixty-two left." Well, yes. But if I read a book everyday then the whole series will be gone in sixty-two days. Well, I can only get so many books from the library but you get my point.
I know I've been talking a lot about the library and series and I've said a million times that this book was amazing but this book is just so good that I could talk on and on and on about it. I'm not really sure how anyone could not like the series. These books are short, cute little stories about the most adorable puppies in the world. Whoever drew these pictures did a great job because the puppies on it are so cute!
Well, I definitely recommend this book to EVERYONE! I feel like-if there is this reward-this series should earn The Best Series of the Year Award because it is so good. And this series isn't just some short little series with five books. No. There is sixty-four! And hopefully Ellen Miles is planning on making more. -
Lizzie and her younger brother, Charles, are in elementary school. They have a puppy named Buddy plus foster dogs and help them find homes.
Their father is a fireman and Meg, one of his colleagues, does search and rescue with her German shepherd, Casey. Meg has been called to picked up a German shepherd puppy named Scout and deliver her to her new adoptive family. Unfortunately the family can't take her after all. Lizzie and Charles' family foster Scout until a new family can be found and while they do, they start training her to become a search and rescue dog like Casey and she seems like a natural!
Though this book is a quick read and directed at elementary-aged children, I found it entertaining. There is a learning experience and a puppy tip at the end. It is written in third person perspective and first person from the dogs' points of view. It is the seventh in the Puppy Place series, which currently has 64 books in the series, and works as a stand alone.

I have a little puppy named Scout and my 2nd grade class is obsessed with her. When I saw this title in our Scholastic book orders I knew I had to get it! I used this text as a guided reading book for some of my high readers.
It’s an easy to follow plot and the author does a nice job of using appropriate vocabulary and explaining the meaning in an authentic manner. I had a few students say this was their new favorite book.
I would definitely recommend for little learners. I will be checking out some of the other books in this series. -
4 stars based on the age group and knowing beforehand what type of story one is jumping into
The books in this series have not been great works of fiction. However, my daughter has enjoyed them so far. She really liked this story about Scout. -
