Yeah, yeah…happily ever after. Whatever.

Sure, Poppy Sullivan believes in love…but love at first sight? Not likely. That's why she's determined to stop her good friend from marrying the wrong woman. So she sets to work immediately and walks right into the very impressive chest of Beck Lefebvre. Not a good omen, considering how things ended up the last time he was in town.

She isn't surprised to see Beck at his cousin's wedding, but she's appalled at his assumption that he deserves a second chance. She's equally appalled at her inclination to give it to him. No way is she falling for his charm again! Although her vow to resist him may be too late…

Ceritanya gak membosankan sih.

I had a love/hate relationship with this story. It took me much longer to read than most Superromances. I think it was because of the nature of Beck and Poppy's relationship.

I don't think I've ever read a romance where the characters took so long to get it together.

Poppy is home for her bff's wedding, but she's not sure he should be marrying Emmy. Things seemed to be happening too quickly, and while trying to find out if Jamie and Emmy really are in love she encounters the guy that broke her heart the last time they were together.

I usually like romances with second chances, but high school ones usually put me off. Beck put me off even more because he had so many issues with relationships because of his parents marrying and divorcing and marrying and divorcing.

Of course, I could feel for him there. You'd have to be mixed up if your parents were working on their 3rd marriage to each other. But oh, he kept screwing up. I wanted to shake him, and at the same time, I was coming to really like him.

Actually, as the book progressed, it was fun to see how clueless he was. I mean they get together and everyone thinks they are a couple and then Jamie and Emmy's wedding is over and he doesn't call her?

    Oye!

    Again, wanted to choke him.

It made sense that Poppy didn't want to give him another chance when he came back around.

But I think for all the frustrations, how they finally did come together was "real."

It was a little slow going but I did enjoy this one.

A definite flirty read, Not Another Wedding is about and event planner that rushes home to tell her best friend that he is getting ready to marry a gold-digger. Only to be sideswiped by her high-school love. The man who took her V-card and never even took a second look. When she sees him she tries everything she can to ignore the fact that she knows him. But even that doesn't seem to work for long. Can she forgive what he has done, did he really mean to do it. All in all a fun light read. Enjoyable with just the right amount of drama and love.

2.5 semua poin untuk Poppy. Back sungguh pengecut, plin-plan, layaknya remaja labil. Okelah dimaklumi dia punya trauma dengan pernikahan. Tapi ya harusnya sadar dong kalau berani ndeketin cewek dimasa lalu kamu apalagi sampai CLBK (cinta lama belum kelar) artinya harus serius dikedua kalinya. Eh begonya dia kabur gitu aja. Untung Poppy cerdas berusaha mati-matian gak takluk lagi sama dia. Fisik hero digambarkan gelap, kekar, tinggi tapi mental kok klemar-klemer gak ada gentlemennya sama sekali. Hadeuh mana judul dan cover gak ada nyambung sama sekali.

Event planner Poppy Sullivan is worried her best friend Jamie is rushing into marriage and that his fiancé is a gold digger, so she is determined to get Jamie’s ear and tell him her concerns. At pre-wedding festivities, she runs into Beck Lefebvre, the man whom she was in love with as a teenager. The man who took her virginity and then never called again. Not wanting to engage him, she pretends to not remember who he is. But Beck definitely remembers Poppy. That night long ago, Beck’s parents separated…again…and he was caught between a mother and a father and all their anger. He didn’t mean to not call Poppy, and when he was forced to move, he never attempted to contact her.

Beck is Jamie’s cousin and is in the wedding. As his charms and advances toward Poppy are getting him nowhere he decides to help her out – he’ll try to get Jamie alone, so Poppy can have some time to talk with him if Poppy pretends to be his date so his mother won’t set him up with some random girl.

The chemistry between Poppy and Beck worked well for me in this one. We start with a pretty grumpy Beck, who is forced to be with his parents, two people he has no patience for. They have been married and divorced twice from each other and now are getting back together for a third time. Beck really wants nothing to do with them, and he gets all angry about it. I do love an angry hero. Poppy isn’t too happy herself. She is mad at herself for being attracted to Beck, and tries her darndest to be prickly and unavailable. (she doesn’t last long)

Both of their colder attitudes worked well for me though. Underneath their angry glares is humor. They are both attracted, and it becomes more of a game of Beck pursuing Poppy and Poppy trying to play coy. When they do give in to their desires, it’s sexy. Poppy still fights the attraction, and I may have gotten a little tire of it towards the end, but overall I liked the development of their relationship.

The weakest part of the book is the fact that Poppy thinks Emmy is a gold digger, only marrying Jamie for his money. Poppy and Jamie are suppose to be best friends – yet she knows nothing about Emma or she can’t even get five minutes alone with Jamie to speak with him? Jamie comes across as kind of a doofus and we never really get to know Emma. I don’t know – that story annoyed me overall.

So, a decent romance, but an annoying side story that detracted from the main show.

Poppy is home for her best pal’s wedding and her intention is to get him to call off the wedding as she is convinced that Jamie ‘s fiancée is a gold digger who wanted nothing but his money couple with the fact that he is getting married after only knowing his fiancée a couple of months. She didn’t have the chance to talk to him and the only time available for her to get him alone is during the engagement party. During the meeting, she met Beck whom she have a crush years ago and whom she have lost her virginity to. But he never called her again after that night and she isn’t that happy to meet him again. Beck is Jamie’s cousin and is the bridegroom. He remember Poppy all right but Poppy pretends not too. Trying to get her attention, he offers to help Poppy by trying to get Jamie alone with a condition that Poppy to pretends to be his date to stop his mother from setting him up with random girls. That night long ago, his parent told him that they decided to go their separate. Yet again. He was devastated and when his mother took him away, he just follow suit. And now he meet her again, after all these time, he intend to keep her there with him.

I like the chemistry that Poppy and Beck have. It really worked in this story. Both trying to act coy when in actual fact, they are attracted to each other. This story also depicts a contrasting family dynamic between the two characters leading to who they are today and it also bring to us the reality on a relationship that sore both good and not do good.

An engaging tale that gives the impression that it is a fun sexy romp, and to be sure it is that. But underneath all the sizzle and flirting is a sadness that seems to permeate the main characters, partly because of their history together and partly because each bears old wounds and both are negatively affected by the hero's fears of marriage. Full of interesting people, this story is a study in contrasts between a family dynamic that is cold and distant and one that is full of affection, chaos, warmth, and people who are deeply invested in one another. Of course, there's one wedding after another, but within that context the author brings readers to face the relationships that are both good and not so good. It is a really delightful read.

This was quite the satisfying romance. Just the thing for a rainy weekend. The plot was even, the pacing good, the characters started out strong and grew throughout the book. The story itself was quite sweet and the lead couple's journey to happily ever after was easy for me to connect to emotionally. I love it when that happens, Don't you! I would definitely read more from Jennifer McKenzie.

There are a few reasons why I liked this book. The first, character. I really liked the hero and heroine and the journey Jennifer took me on.
There were a few surprises for me, which I liked.
Also, the setting. It's not very often you can read about a BC town in a major publication.
Looking forward to her next book.

Poppy Sullivan doesn't do weddings anymore, though she's a party planner. Beck Lefebre hates them, too, but both are roped into helping his cousin get married and what follows is a hilarious taken on two people desperate to protect their respective hearts from hurt and how each can't seem to get the other out of their minds or lives.

    A perfect beach read.

DNF. Nasty comments about blonde women are deal-breakers for me. Review copy.
