I bought this book when the cover promoted it as "In the tradition of Clan of the Cave Bear". If it was half as good as that book I knew I'd like it-and I did. Armistead did a tremendous job building the environment of an ancient tribal culture living on an island. She captured the innocence and coming of age of a young woman without making the character out to be a complete idiot. The slow build of the romance plot as well as where Mi-sa will land in the rank of the tribe was really well executed.

This book is a very well written book that touches on the lives of the native Americans in Florida. The descriptors are incredible. The stars are crystal clear.
I felt for the young girl and was so proud at the end. So, when the last page came and the words flowed, I smiled. What an ending!
Want a good book about the native Americans? I highly recommend this book! -
