The Action Bible: Faith in Action Edition Reviews

"The Action Bible: Faith in Action" is a graphic Bible, comic-book style, for children of all ages. I've previously read the original and expanded editions. In this latest edition, they've added QR codes to link to online content. The stories are labeled as examples of courage, faith, hope, love, service, trust, or wisdom. QR codes are in many of the stories, and they connect to online videos, interactive games, devotionals, maps, prayer guides, and more. Unfortunately, there are no URLs for those kids who don't have access to a smart phone or who don't choose to use QR codes. The actual panels (illustrations and words) look the same as the previous edition of The Action Bible, but the title area for each story and some of the framing and background colors have been changed.

As for the Action Bible, I'd personally call this Biblical fiction rather than "a Bible" since extra-Biblical comments, commentary, and historical information was worked into the book's summary of Biblical events. Some Biblical events were left out. Sexual content and gore was largely smoothed over (using euphemism or implication) or skipped entirely. The author always indicated "based on Judges 16:1-20" or whatever verses and, overall, did a good job accurately summarizing the Bible accounts. While I wouldn't use this book as a replacement for the Bible, I'd certainly recommend this book over children's Bible story books.

I really liked that the events were in chronological order and shown in their historical setting. Several psalms were worked into David's life story and several proverbs into Solomon's story. The prophets gave their (summarized) prophecies during the actual events where they were given, and Paul's (summarized) letters were shown as written when they really were written during his travels. There were even some maps of Paul's missionary travels. Also, the Old Testament flowed into the New Testament through a brief (and clearly marked as not in the Bible) historical summary of the events that happened between the two. So the Bible came across as a continuous historical account of God relating to man with a redemptive plan in action (rather than as disconnected morality tales about heroes of the past).

I was also very impressed by the vivid, detailed illustrations. The illustrator did an excellent job of correctly showing the character's age, ethnicity, and culture. The Action Bible is an excellent foundational overview of the Bible. Overall, I'd highly recommend this Action Bible for use with elementary aged children as an engaging way to teach them about the Bible.

I received a free ebook review copy of this book from the publisher.

The Action Bible: Faith in Action edition by Sergio Cariello from David C Cook is a vibrantly illustrated Bible aimed at the nine to eleven year old age range--but I think it will catch readers both older and younger.

The Action Bible: Faith in Action edition is illustrated with bright vibrant comic book style illustrations. I brings the Bible to life for this age group and you can feel the energy leaping off of the pages, in my opinion. There are 230 spiritually-transformative Bible stories. A Faith in Action Badge corresponds with each story with one of seven biblical attributes: courage, faith, hope, love, service, trust, and wisdom.

Along with the print book, there are discoverable QR codes throughout the text, which can be used to further bring the Bible to life and learn more. This engaging on-line content includes videos, games, digital Scripture index, prayers, Bible facts, devotions, playlists, reading plans, interactive maps, Bible study sessions, and more.

If you don't know who he is, Sergio Cariello's vibrant illustrations are influenced by his illustrious background in Marvel Comics and DC Comics. How cool is that? They breathe an unparalleled vibrancy into the biblical narratives. Originating from Brazil, Cariello infuses each page with a dynamic energy that propels every tale into a visual spectacle, captivating readers of all ages in an awe-inspiring storytelling extravaganza.

This is a really cool Bible, in my opinion, especially to engage young boys like when my son was this age. I know he would have enjoyed this Bible and it would have kept him engaged and interested.

This hardcover Bible is 832 pages long and includes a reading challenge chart spurs young readers on to earn a Faith in Action Title. It measures close to 7 by ten inches and is 1 1/2 inches thick. It is a big enough book to be interesting and yet and easy size to carry or leave on the nightstand. It releases on February 6, 2024.

I received a digital copy of this book for the purpose of this review. All opinions within this review are my own.

The Action Bible: Faith in Action Edition” offers a dynamic and captivating way for children to engage with biblical stories. The unique comic book format, coupled with detailed illustrations and easy-to-follow narratives, creates an immersive and rewarding experience for young readers.

One of my favorite aspects of this Bible is its innovative organization. By categorizing stories according to themes such as courage, faith, and love, it provides a convenient way to explore specific virtues or topics.

The colorful and lively illustrations not only complement the storytelling but also gives me a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of mail-in Bible studies I used to enjoy as a child. The comic book style visuals are effective at capturing kids’ attention and cultivating a love for Scripture.

I like how this Bible incorporates practical elements such as QR codes offering access to online content. These extra resources add a lot to the reading experience and encourage children to spend time reading and learning.

This is a great resource for children, particularly those who enjoy graphic novels and comics. Its combination of vibrant artwork, accessible narratives, and thematic organization is sure to help kids grow in their faith. Whether used for personal study, family devotions, or educational purposes, this Bible is sure to inspire and enlighten readers of all ages—not just those in the target market of 9-11 years old.

This Faith in Action Edition of The Action Bible is the perfect way to entice young readers to explore God's Word! The key word is GRAPHIC because eye-catching illustrations are the chief way of telling the story. Yes, there is text, but it is minimal, and actual Bible quotes are taken from the NIV translation. This Bible is also interactive, so it's exactly what kids are looking for today! All they have to do is scan the QR codes that are sprinkled throughout the Bible to find additional resources that are both fun and inspirational.

Why, as an adult, do I like this new Bible? I'm always eager to find faith-based reading for my granddaughter, so I was especially excited to find this new edition of the bestselling Action Bible from David C. Cook Publishing. The stories are told in chronological order, so I'm assured that she is getting God's amazing story of redemption, and there are even a couple of pages that show what happened between the Old and New Testaments. It also has a variety of Spiritual Growth Resources, including over 200 devotionals, prayers, character stories, timelines, maps, and Bible facts. Even more reasons to grab a copy!

If you have children or grandchildren who like graphic novels and enjoy playing games online, this is a great choice for them. If you want your children or grandchildren to have a safe online experience and still learn God's Word, this is the perfect choice for YOU! The Faith in Action Edition will help kids Engage in God's Word, Grow in God's Word, and Live in God's Word. It is truly the ultimate Bible for kids and teens!

Have you read an action Bible? As a mom, I love finding different books for my kids to read that are full of faith and are more kid friendly.

I have read the first Action Bible with my kids and they absolutely love it, especially my eldest who loves graphic novels.

The Faith in Action Bible has similar artistry and pictures but focuses more on people of faith and what God does in their lives.

This book focuses on people like Moses, Joseph, David, and Jesus. It dives deep into their stories and walks with God. I loved the detail and Bible references with each story.

This Bible also weaves the Proverbs and Psalms into each character story! I love how it all ties together.

We get New and Old testament with "action badges" that focus on things like trust and love.

One of my favorite parts is "women of the old testament." A great section focusing on women that have small parts in the Bible but pivotal roles in God's story.

Highly recommend this one for your family! Some action scenes may be intense for younger children, but my seven year old loves it. A great book to read with your kids.

  • Faith

A high quality project that kids will keep coming back to time after time!

A Bible storybook in comic book form, it does a great job of appropriately communicating major themes and skirting some of the more adult things that you don't quite want to be graphically illustrated for youngsters. Adam and Eve are artfully covered in shadow and plant life--in case you were wondering!

The book is divided thematically into 7 categories, making it easy to flip between different stories. Not only are there hundreds of devotions hidden with QR codes amongst the artwork, but also fun interactive games that go with the stories.

A wonderful gift for the child in your life, with enticing illustrations that will have even your more hesitant readers diving into learning more about God's word. A fun supplement to Scripture reading, and a fun resource to share!

The Action Bible has been around for many years. My Boys had the early version of the Action Bible when they were younger. The new and updated version is AMAZING. My boys are now Young Adults and they checked out the new version with me and they said "This version has so much more then the one we had. The graphics are superb." The Action Bible is a Graphic Novel Bible and the Illustor, Sergio Cariello, has made it vibrant, interesting and colorful. The Addition of QR Codes and making it Interactive is a FANTASTIC aspect of this Bible. I feel the Kids are already digging into the Bible, but when they Scan a QR Code it really takes them to another level of Learning!

I also LOVE the addition of the 7 Themes throughout the Bible which include: Service, Love, Trust, Courage, Faith, Hope, Wisdom.

I HIGHLY Recommend this Bible for Kids and Parents to Enjoy together. I feel it would make a GREAT Gift for Easter or anytime!

As I looked through this Bible, I wondered if it was just for very young children or if was it for young teens as well. To me, this looks much like the Bible told in short story form and illustrated in comic book-style artwork. It is very well done for sure...but I just wasn't sure what might interest young teens these days. So I asked my son, who works with the youth group at church...mostly, young teens are in this group of kids. He said, "Yep. They would like it." So there's that.

Now when I say comic book-style illustrations, I'm talking really good quality work. I looked up info on the illustrator and found this:

Sergio Cariello used his experience working for Marvel Comics and DC Comics to bring his dream of illustrating the Bible to life. As a young boy, he grew up with a Portuguese translation of The Picture Bible and never imagined he would one day work on the Bible as an artist.

That's pretty impressive. We live in a fast-paced, media-driven world. It can take something 'extra' to get kids and young adults engaged because of what they are accustomed to consuming.

I would not necessarily recommend a Bible such as this, in its short story/comic book style form to the mature believer looking for a Bible that will get them engaged in in-depth study. But I would recommend it to those children, young people, and adults who are looking for a way to get a good overview of God's Word. A practical, fun, and engaging starting point for sure that can cultivate a hunger for more of God's Word. Something that just might spark the beginning of a great thirst for engaging God's Word and set the stage for the great adventure of a lifetime of getting into the Word to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus and His Word.

The resources look to be an added benefit for the individual reading it as well as for parents looking for ways to engage with their child together in his/her daily Bible reading and study. It looks to be a fun resource for homeschooling families as well.

So I would recommend this to young families looking for resources that will aid you in getting your kids, young and older, into the Word!

Great way to introduce Gen Z and Gen Alpha to the Bible. My daughters (15 and 13) fought over who would get to keep this when I was done looking at it (I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review).

It's not an incredibly accurate representation of the Bible, but it's accurate in terms of spirit and intent. It's appealing and engaging. A great starting point that should lead to deeper interest in the actual word of God.
