DNF at 42%. This is the most chaotic and convenient storyline I have read in a long time. I would have liked to read this book if it wasn’t two entirely different timelines (1695 and 2024) with almost two different stories happening.

For starters, it’s chaotic in the sense of these two very different years the book is taking place in. And with every new thing happening in the 2024 timeline, it really should have just been its own book. How am I supposed to care about how these two timelines relate when they are so entirely different and there is so much unnecessary fluff in the 2024 timeline?

Then for it being convenient. Every compelling thing about this book’s plot is so entirely predictable. Making it truly an eye roll. Im trying to remain spoiler free, but at every new development in the book (cuz it’s just constant “new” things happening), it just had me going “of course…” or “really..?” And not in the shocked way. I mean the 😒 way.

I wanted to finish it to see if my initial thoughts were true. But after the next chaotic and unnecessary thing in the 2024 timeline, I had to give up. I didn’t care about the 2024 timeline and yet it seemed to the only timeline that truly got attention, but also had a million things happening at once that had nothing to do with the 1695 timeline.

This author was exceptionally skilled at bringing the past to life as the Scottish clan searched for Tess, and as you are transported to the 1600’s and follow Tess and her captain through hair raising adventure. A little bit of emotional experience, with love, loss, danger, and even a little bit of sex.
A terrific read. I received this book as an arc and am voluntarily submitting my review.

I genuinely don't have any negativity towards this book, it just was not my cup of tea. I think I've been reading this book for about 20 days and have made it a smidge over half way... and that's my sign that I'm just not that into it.

It's set in two time periods - sometime in the 1600's and 2024. The two connect with each other. I was much more interested in the 1600's story then the present story, but still not invested enough where I wanted to read it during my free time.
The writing is good; it's a very cozy story. It just didn't pack enough punch for me to stay interested.

Goodreads Giveaway Win - Thank you, Linda Hughes and Amazon Books! The premise and characters held my attention. Book One of the series has made my TBR list. Finding Tess is a quick and enjoyable read. In-depth descriptions of more of the events would have enhanced the writing. This would include the courtship between Sam and Tess. Not all love scenes seemed to have context. Sometimes, the story felt like an outline rather than a fleshed-out novel. These are my personal opinions. I was unable to write this review in my Kindle app.

Enjoy the dual timeline in the story. The historical aspect is entertaining to read. It seems like it was a very complex time with arranged marriages and things of that nature. Interesting characters in both times to get to know and follow along on this adventure. There are a few twists and turns with plenty of drama and romance. Good read.

    What did they go through?

They found letters belonging to Tess! These letters told quite a tale! Innis Bree, her husband and her friends were enthralled! What happened to her? Did she escape her father? Only this book can tell you!.

Ultimately felt I could not connect with the characters to feel invested in the story. Kept reading a few pages, then stopping to read something else because of that.
