Cocktails, chaos, and an unexpected twist. Can Bea, Perry, and his hens unveil the truth before time runs out?

Death at Prestigious Hotel and Spa, Chasingham HouseWe are hearing reports that a young woman has been found dead at Chasingham House, the exclusive venue in the Cotswolds. She has not been named, and the cause of death is unknown at this time. This will no doubt cast a cloud over the bachelor weekend being hosted there by Lady Beatrice (36), the Countess of Rossex, for her business partner Perry Juke (34) ahead of his wedding to bestselling author and celebrity chef Simon Lattimore (40). Also staying at Chasingham House are top models Camile Redmaine (35) and Mel Parks (35), who are celebrating newly-single Cammy’s birthday with a group of friends.

When one of the birthday girls is found dead in her room, it’s clear Bea plans for her, Perry, and their friends to chill around the pool, have a few treatments, and generally relax, seem to have gone down the drain. When the local police are quick to dismiss the death as an accident, Bea is determined to help investigate anyway, along with the rest of Perry’s party.

Can they catch the killer before the weekend is over and the trail goes cold?Another page-turning, contemporary, clean, British cozy whodunnit with a hint of humour that you wouldn’t be able to put down from Helen Golden"Helen Golden hits another one out of the park! A great story, amazing location and, oh!, the characters!... Helen is a great storyteller. She mixes her characters, the mystery and the location each have their place in the story. Can hardly wait until the next book!" Reader Review

    BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'A Cocktail To Die For' by Helen Golden.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Helen Golden, Rachel's Random Resources and Drew Bradley Press.

    Publication date 9th December 2023.

This novel consists of 34 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO HELEN ON A PAGE TURNING SUCCESS!!

An absolutely successful unputdownable cosy mystery by the very talented Helen Golden!! This may be the first book I have read by Helen but it most definitely won't be my last and I am looking forward to getting stuck into the previous 6 books in this series as well as the future books to come!! The covers themselves are all absolutely stunning and grab the attention immediately!! The storyline had me hooked immediately and I love the way that Lady Beatrice, Detective Chief Inspector Emma McKeer-Adler, Perry Juke, Ellie Gunn, Claire Beck go about their detective work. There was so much going on that it kept me entertained thoroughly throughout with mystery after mystery and clue after clue. It was filled with suspense, mystery, laughter, murder, alcohol, clues, fun, friendship, red herrings, deceit. tension, suspense and so much more!! It is absolutely perfect to read either curled in front of the fire or lying on a beach which not many books can achieve. I devoured it in one sitting as I just could not put it down and gave up on lying to myself saying just one more chapter as that never happened!! The atmosphere was perfectly suited to the mystery and I love the fact that this book takes us on a spa holiday into the stunning Chasingham House tasting cocktails, swimming in the pool and scouring around for clues. Helen's gorgeous evocative writing skills and descriptions whisked me off to the prestigious private member's hotel and spa and even with the murder I was gutted when I came to the end and not only had to leave some amazing characters but also the gorgeous hotel!! I also love the fact that although this is a cosy mystery it also had me in stitches of laughter on so many occasions which makes it the perfect light hearted read!! If your looking for a cocktail filled murder mystery, a not Lady who investigates crime with an attitude and a lighthearted lots of fun then look no further!!

Although this is the seventh book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

The characters were all larger than life, realistic and a complete breathe of fresh air. Lady Beatrice is an amazing character, very bubbly and certainly not your typical 'Lady', she is absolutely unique as well as a very strong female lead which is a great bonus for myself being female. I absolutely adore her relationship with Emma along with the rest of her "staff" that she treats more like friends. The only downfall is that herself and the rest of the characters are fictional as these are a great group of characters I would absolutely LOVE to meet in real life!! Perry is absolutely fantastic and I really enjoy how he makes me laugh with his sulks, inability to be subtle and sarcasm at times. Perry and Beatrice are like the perfect comedy duo!! I also love the relationship between Beatrice and Emma and although Emma is employed to protect Lady Beatrice they are more like friends. I also loved Detective Sergeant Vic Meed who is completely overworked and treated like a child by the horrid DCI Alan Rivers but still such a gentleman and made me smile on several occasions. I cannot wait to meet most of the characters again in the previous books and the next book in this fantastic series which is called 'Dying To Bake' and will be published in March 2024!!! I would also like to add that Helen has added a list of characters in order of appearance in the back of the book which included some information on each of them. I found this very useful to refer to so thank you Helen for including this!!!

A huge congratulations on a huge success Helen!!! If you are looking for a cosy mystery that has everything that you could ask for in a book and more then look no further!!! This is exactly why I would like to welcome you to my favourite author club! Here's to your next guaranteed success 🥂!

Overall a fun and easy to read page turning cozy murder mystery with the perfect amount of crime and humour that will keep you hooked throughout.

Helen Golden has created a fabulous cosy mystery series with her A Right Royal Cosy Mystery Series! She knows how to grab a reader and keep them turning the pages from the start. This is the eighth book, and I am as invested with Lady Bea as I was in books one and two.

This time, Perry is getting married, so he and Lady Bea, as well as some friends, decide it's a spa weekend in the country. This turns out bad news for the spa as we all know deaths and the accompanying mystery follows them wherever they are. So, as per usual, the relaxing spa weekend turns into what Lady Bea does best...amateur sleuthing.

I love this series and enjoyed every minute of this particular book. The story as a whole has the right ingredients to keep me engrossed all the way. I always feel like Im returning to old friends whenever I pick up this series. The characters all make me feel like I am with them. Just the right amount of red herrings alongside the humour gives this a 'just one more page' issue.

I do hope Lady Bea continues her sleuthing for a long time to come! If you enjoy cosy mysteries with interesting characters and no shortage of humour, just give this series a try. It’s well worth it!

Thanks to Rachel Gilbey and Helen Golden for the opportunity to read the book in exchange for an honest review.

Starting a series on the eighth book would normally be a huge no for me as I'd assume I'd be missing too much backstory of the main characters. However, this reads surprisingly well as a standalone. It was easy to, not only get into the story but, get to know the main characters and I never felt lost with who's who.

The untimely death of a party guest sparks the group to begin their own murder investigation, especially as the police are intimating that the death was an accident. Murder suspects are limited to the guests at the hotel but there were enough red herrings to keep me guessing and asking questions.

This is quite a gentle cosy mystery as all the investigation takes place in the hotel where it is easy to round up everyone there and conduct interviews on-site. There is quite a bit of humour throughout the book so I wasn't expecting the sad and poignant story behind the murder and I found that scene quite moving.

There is a little sneak peek into the next book to be published so I will be looking forward to that one but in the meantime, book 1 is calling.

2023 bk 307. Golden has done it again - a lovely cozy mystery set among the POSHest of the POSH. When a bride's weekend away for Perry at a private spa coincides with the birthday celebration of a group of top models, one of the women is found dead. The Detective Inspector acquaintance is shut out by the local detective. And Beatrice and her friends know that they must intervene - the man is not the most competent. What was supposed to be a relaxing weekend of massages, good food and drink, and shared time turns into the quartet quietly working their magic on the other group - finding out the issues that might have led to the death. Well done and very enjoyable and definitely a re-read in the works.

So excited to read this book. Reading this series, for me, is like getting caught up with my friends I haven’t seen for a while. I missed Fitzwilliam and Daisy, but I enjoyed getting acquainted with characters introduced in previous books. Definitely reading more from Helen Golden, plus I am anxious to know if Lady Bea and Fitzwilliam’s relationship will become more romantic 🥰.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Lady Bea is celebrating Perry Juke's upcoming nuptuals at an exclusive hotel and spa. The only other guests are attending a model's birthday party and one of them is found dead the next morning...
A Cocktail To Die For is a cosy crime mystery novel in the Right Royal Investigation series set in a fictional England. Lady Bea is the niece of the king but often finds herself in the midst of a murder case!
Bea and Perry's relaxing celebration is scuppered by the discovery of a body. One of the other party guests is found dead in their room and poison is suspected. Bea's friend Em is in attendance so launches into her professional role as a police inspector. However, the local police are not keen on having the royal protection officer and her charge involved in the case.
Due to the cosy genre there is little detail about the murder or body. The main focus is upon the investigation and how Bea and her friends respond to developing events. There are a limited number of suspects due to the small guest lost for both parties so Bea uses her position and personality to gently interrogate the other characters.
I did enjoy this book and it was a quick read. It was interesting to see another police officer take the lead and I liked getting to know Em better than we had previously. However, I felt that there was missing something without regular characters Fitzwilliam, Simon and Daisy the dog.
A Cocktail To Die For is an enjoyable mystery and I love this fictional royal world.

  • Elaine - Splashes Into Books

This is a contemporary cozy mystery series that I adore
And am always on the look out to see if there are any more.
It features Lady Bea and her business partner Perry Juke
Who seems an intrepid duo when it comes to being a sleuth!

Perry is getting married and Bea has arranged his bachelor weekend
They've travelled to Chasingham House, a relaxing time to spend.
They're joined by friends with plans for spa treatments and fun
They definitely weren't anticipating another investigation needing to be done!

There's another group staying and when one of them sadly dies,
Despite some being school friends of Bea, they're sure one is telling lies.
Is it just an accident or is this another murder taking place?
Bea and Perry can't resist joining in looking at the case!

Another investigation that keeps the duo intrigued again
And upsetting the police officer in charge they just can't refrain!
A great page turner with mystery and laughter, too,
As Bea and friends seek to discover every single clue.

Another great read I really enjoyed and so highly recommend
The kind of book enthralled in, I really like time to spend.
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.

I got so drawn in by this book from the first few pages, it's been a brilliant read. We had a cast list at the end of the book but I really didn't feel I needed it, i loved all the characters we met they are so well crafted. It kind of felt like you could be stepping into one of those murder mystery weekends away, and I really loved that vibe (I also really would love to go to one of those and this has just intensified that want to do it). The humour in it was so brilliantly placed I had laugh-out-loud moments throughout, it's a book that's proven that humour is all about timing and Helen Golden's is spot on.
It's a fantastically written book, and I can see, knowing it is a series, where she's woven in points that will probably come up again in other books and I really loved those little crumbs of information that she's left us. I think Bea is a fantastic main character, I know that others in the group do give us information from their point of view often but Bea is our MC and I just adored her. I can't wait for the next in the series to see where life takes her and her friends and what they are going to stumble into next.
I definitely think I've found my new comfort cosy mystery series, and thankfully I have a fair few of them to catch up on!

Oh mercy! Mercy Bright was found dead in her luxury hotel room. Was it an accidental allergic reaction to the cocktail she drank … or was it murder?

Frankly, I wasn’t taken with the characters, the setting or the plot. The characters are a bunch of self-absorbed, spoiled and rich aristocrats and models. When their so-called friend is found dead, they wish to help with the possible murder investigation, that is between spa treatments and cocktail parties. The fact that several of the main characters are gay draws hardly a raised eyebrow.

The second half of the book is better than the first with some comic relief and a bit of action. But all clues lead to the culprit without any misdirection. A big letdown. The narrative was particularly irking in that although a woman is dead, the group of friends feel it was only an unfortunate accident. She only meant to hurt Mercy, not kill her! It is still manslaughter by any definition.

    Who Killed the Birthday Girl ? . . .

In addition to the group celebrating Perry Juke’s bachelor party, there is one other group at the Chasingham House spa resort to celebrate a birthday. So when an unexplained death of one of the birthday girls, Mercy Bright, occurs and the police immediately try to label it as an accident, Lady Beatrice (“Bea”), the Countess of Rossex, decides to investigate with the help of Perry’s group. Can they catch the killer before the weekend is over and the trail goes cold?

    A Cocktail to Die For

Lady Bea and her partner Perry are having a group of friends for Perry 's shower when another visitor at the spa is killed. Working to find who killed the young woman takes up a lot of the party week for Perry, but he and his friends still manage to get a little spa and special treatment too.

  • Wildborne Fantasy

This cozy mystery was entertaining enough, but I wasn’t invested in the story or characters and the ending fell flat.

  • Georgina Candy

This is book 8 in the Right Royal Cosy Mystery series and it’s just as good as the previous ones I’ve read. Perry is getting married in a weeks time, so he and Lady Bea along with some friends, take a weekend away at a posh spa in the country. Unfortunately like most of their excursions recently, it doesn’t take long for murder and mystery to rear its head and ruin their time away.

As usual though, they just can’t stay out of it and start investigating - much to the detectives annoyance. Another great cosy mystery, well written and full of fun and mischief.

  • Rahel Charikar

A Cocktail To Die For by Helen Golden is an absolute page-turner that deserves every bit of its 5-star rating. The author takes us on a thrilling journey through the posh setting of Chasingham House, infusing the plot with a delightful mix of cocktails, chaos, and an unexpected twist that will leave you guessing until the very end.

The story revolves around Lady Beatrice, Perry Juke, and their eclectic group of friends, setting the stage for a weekend of relaxation, celebration, and perhaps a few too many cocktails. However, when a mysterious death shatters their plans, the group embarks on a mission to unravel the truth. Golden masterfully weaves a tale of suspense, sprinkled with a dash of humor and a generous pour of unexpected turns.

The absence of Fitzgerald, a beloved character from the series, is keenly felt in this installment. The chemistry between Bea and Fitzgerald is notably absent, leaving a void that fans of the series will recognize. Yet, Golden manages to compensate for this absence by crafting a captivating narrative that stands on its own. The characters, particularly Bea and Perry, display resilience and determination, making it impossible not to root for them as they navigate the intricate web of secrets at Chasingham House.

The investigation into the death of one of the birthday girls keeps the reader hooked, as the local police dismiss it as an accident. Bea's determination to uncover the truth adds a layer of intensity to the plot, and the camaraderie among the characters brings a warmth that balances the chilling mystery.

One minor critique would be the wish for more detailed descriptions of Simon and Perry's wedding. Golden touches upon this significant event, but a deeper exploration could have added emotional depth to the narrative. However, this does not overshadow the overall excellence of the story.

In conclusion, A Cocktail To Die For is a perfect continuation of the series, showcasing Helen Golden's prowess in crafting suspenseful and engaging mysteries. While the absence of familiar chemistry is noted, the author compensates with a well-executed plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. I eagerly anticipate the next installment and recommend this book to any mystery lover looking for a thrilling, cocktail-infused adventure. Cheers to Helen Golden for delivering another gripping tale!

Lady Beatrice has got another case on her hands in the latest installment in the Right Royal Cozy Investigation series, A Cocktail to Die For.

Lady Beatrice was looking forward to hosting a bachelor weekend for her business partner Perry Juke ahead of his wedding at prestigious hotel and spa Chasingham House. Bea has got it all planned out as she intends to chill round the pool with Perry and their friends, have a couple of cocktails and enjoy a few treatments and indulge in some much-needed rest and relaxation. Bea is positive that this weekend will be perfect for her and her friends, but things soon go awry when a dead body is found!

Top models Camile Redmaine and Mel Parks were also at the spa celebrating newly-single girl Cammy’s birthday along with a couple of other friends. When a body is discovered, the police are called in to investigate and they immediately dismiss the death as an accident. Bea, however, is not so sure. She is positive that there is far more to this case than meets the eye and is determined to get to the bottom of it – with a little bit of help from Perry and her friends.

Can Bea solve this case? Or will a dangerous killer end up getting away with murder?

I am a big fan of Helen Golden’s Right Royal Cozy Investigation series and A Cocktail to Die For is the latest fun, fast-paced and nail-biting mystery featuring Lady Bea and her friends that I found a struggle to put down. Witty, suspenseful and full of twists and turns that kept me guessing till the end, A Cocktail to Die For is another brilliant cozy mystery from Helen Golden readers will thoroughly enjoy.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
