  Lu is an eleven-year-old girl, named for her grandmothers. She has a rich relationship with her grandmother. They play cards. They work together, and her grandmother is an inventive source of fun. The artwork is so good! Vivid watercolor portraits illustrate the bond between grandmother and grandchild. I love the love reflected in their faces as they face each other. From the first page I was drawn in, the fun Lu has with her grandmother keeps you turning the pages. The story is a circle. In the beginning you see the love and care that Grandma nurtures Lu, and then when Grandma needs her, the character and love that was so generously given to Lu comes back in full to Grandma. This book is as timeless as Love You Forever or Sammy and the Robots. I love to read and use the library heavily, but this is a book I will buy for our own family and give as a gift because its story of empathy and family love is so awesome. Congratulations Mrs. Klingler on a wonderful addition to the canon of excellent family books!

  What an important message this book sends at a much needed time! Great positive message that we can learn from others, those that have lived longer than us, and from children as well. I really enjoyed this book and I will share it with the children in my life!

  I loved this new children's book I Am Strong! I Am Smart! The cute story of Luisa May and her Grandmother illustrates the love that they share. Grandma helps Lu learn lessons about loving herself by teaching her that she is smart and important after she has been bullied at school. Then when Grandma has a stroke, Lu turns around and helps Grandma realize how smart she is and how she can reach her goals of recovering from the stroke. This book would be a beautiful gift for a Grandma to give her grand-kids or vice-versa. Any book that shares a message that every person is a special child of God and can be strong and courageous, is a winner. I will share this book with my family and those I know.

  Having a strong support system is important at any age. I Am Strong! I Am Smart! begins as Lu is struggling with problems that children have. Her grandmother, who lives with Lu's family, teaches Lu how to deal with life's problems. She is positive and uplifting in teaching patience, handling bullies, and doing chores. Her messages of love and encouragement are amazing, inspiring, and appropriate for a young girl.
  
  In a twist, Grandma has a stroke and it's Lu's turn to help her grandmother. She shows how she has internalized the messages as she encourages her grandmother.
  
  This book is perfect for kids and adults. Some of the messages are needed for adults. We need to be reminded that we are strong and smart too.

  Parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts will benefit from owning such a story. Wisdom from those who have lived longer has much priceless worth for our youth. I have placed the book on my coffee table as a reminder. Everyday, I pass by it, and remember Fay Klinger's words and a smile falls upon my face.

  I love this book by Fay Klingler! It's one of those picture books that have a message for all ages... bridges the generations and warms the hearts of grandmas while teaching powerful lessons for girls. Beautiful illustrations and beautiful pictures. I've given copies to two of my granddaughters for birthdays. Thank you, Fay for an excellent book!
