A hilarious and sexy romance about a woman who gets dropped on a strange planet only to fall for not one, but two, aliens, from the author of I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf.

Dorothy Valentine is close to getting her PhD in wildlife biology when she’s attacked by a lion. On the bright side, she’s saved! On the not-so-bright side, it’s because they’re abducted by aliens. In her scramble to escape, Dory and the lion commandeer an escape pod and crash-land on an alien planet that has...dinosaurs?

Dory and her new lion bestie, Toto, are saved in the nick of time by a mysterious and sexy alien, Sol. On their new adventure, they team up with the equally hot, equally dangerous Lok, who may or may not be a war criminal. Whether it be trauma, fate, or intrigue, Dory can’t resist the attraction that’s developing in their trio....

As this ragtag group of misfits explore their new planet, Dory learns more about how and why they’ve all ended up together, battles more prehistoric creatures than she imagined (she imagined...zero), and questions if she even wants to go back home to Earth in this hilarious and steamy alien romance adventure comedy romp.

    What in the actual fuck?

Fans of Kimberly Lemming know going in to expect some quirky, out there stuff but this was beyond anything she’s written before. To the point that I’d say much of this, especially the first 60% was a big mess. There were definitely moments of fun and her voice is still very apparent throughout but this really needs better balance and focus. I know she went into the pitch to the publisher giving them the whackiest things she could think of and they went for it but come on! Usually when an indie author gets picked up by a major publisher you expect MORE polish not less.
This was so messy it was actually boring because I couldn’t keep track of all the new things she threw my way that I really stopped caring. And the central why choose romance was extremely lacking. The use of a love serum made it insta love and insta lust and they jumped into sex immediately and did very little else. The two male leads in this were completely undeveloped, especially Sol, and I honestly didn’t care about them. The villain (who didn’t appear until the last 30%) was better developed and had a deeper backstory and more obvious POV than either love interest. You can tell he’s the mc for the next in the series so at least he’s set up now.

Honestly this had fun points and I liked the back half but it really barely skates through at three stars. There is just way too much going on and little to no plot. Also it wasn’t exactly original as it follows the formula for almost every ‘mars needs women’ alien romance books. Toto the talking lion was my favourite and was the main reason I did not DNF this.

If you like whacky stories with lots and lots of descriptive MMF sex scenes maybe you’ll like this. I just found it overall needed better development and think Berkley really needs called out for failing Lemming so badly here. Her Mead Mishaps series is a much better offering and I look forward to more from it. This series is a miss for me.

Boooo, my arc request got declined!

Im going to try to not be salty about it. 🧂

The cover for this was revealed and it is so good! goodreads needs to get with the program, because I came here to talk about it and it’s not updated! 😂 😭

This book was very interesting right from the start with that title LOL!! 😂 It jumped straight into the plot with her being abducted, immediately setting the ball rolling for this rom-com. The element of rom-com I can totally see since you get snappy comments, cliche lines that we love and we can't forget the romance.

For me, it was enjoyable, but sadly, I wasn't as into it as I wanted to be. I saw the result a million miles away and was already a bit bored with the whole "I was abducted to fall in love with two aliens" trope 👽💘. Still, I won't lie the scenes were HOT 🔥, and as an occasional paranormal reader, I can definitely see the appeal of this book for many!

Everybody buckle up for the crazy and chaotic ride that is I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I'm Trapped in a Rom-Com! This romance was so fun and exciting, the fast paced story was completely jam-packed with adventure, near death experiences, and so much smut. I loved the unique plot and how the Jurassic park vibes clashed with the sci-fi setting and aliens. The MMF romance was so steamy and I enjoyed how Dory, Sol, and Lok ran with the punches and their forced mating. While this is nothing like the Mead Mishaps series, Kimberly Lemming put her everything into this campy and vibrant romance, and I cannot wait to read the next book!

She’s on another planet with pink T-Rex’s, talking animals and literal aliens, but she crashes out over a big frog? Homegirl seriously needs to straighten out her priorities. 😆

I always get drawn in by this authors fun covers and unique premises, but I really need to stop myself next time. I typically enjoy myself for a while, and then the smut arrives and I am just NOT a fan. 🙈 To each their own, but the way this author writes explicit scenes is not for me. The last third brought the rating up a bit, but at the end of the day this authors books just aren’t my cup of tea.

I liked the Mead Mishaps series, so I imagined I would like this one a lot more than I did. It seems I am an outlier in the early readers so far, so please take this as you will. I should say I am not one who seeks out heavy spice. I don’t mind spice but I want it centered around good characters and some plot or story. This one did not have that. It also doesn’t help that it has my least favorite trope, forced mating with drug alteration (which feels non consensual to me). I felt like without either good characters or a plot the humor fell flat for me and her humor is why I have enjoyed this author previously. The only character I really liked was Toto, who hasn’t dreamed of a big kitty making them a part of his pride? Dorothy Valentine has almost got her PHd in wildlife biology when she is attacked by a lion and then saved by aliens who unfortunately kidnapped her. She landed on a weird planet with dinosaurs and a car with nothing inside. And of course she meets and falls for two aliens. Overall I gave this one 2.5 stars which I rounded up because I recognize that a lot of the faults I had with this one were more about my taste.

  • Melany

    Okay, hear me out. Lol

While this was ridiculous and hilarious, it was also SUPER entertaining. I loved Dory. She is such a badass FMC! She was so hilarious, sarcastic, and messy. She made me relate to her in so many different moments (which is wild, if you know the plot of this). But I loved her so much for just being raw and herself throughout. Toto was amazing. Like, he made me laugh SO hard. He even made me tear up towards the end. I loved him with all of my being, and I'm SO sad that lions don't actually talk IRL now. Sol was hot, affectionate, and HE LISTENED TO THE LITTLE THINGS YALL! (Hello? Perfect book boyfriend.) I also loved Lok. He was the "touch her and die" vibes guy, and I was 100% here for it. The Intern truly gave me comedy relief so so many times seeing how they set up the new world and such based on humans. I was laughing so hard. But to top it off, you'd think this was just a wild, ridiculous book... no! It had an amazing plot. I was on the edge of my seat during several of the twists, wondering how it was going to play out and if they would survive it. Thoroughly enjoyed this one!! 4 stars EASILY!

I received this ARC from NetGalley and Berkley to read/review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.

Only Kimberly could write a 5 star book that has: a talking lion, a pink dinosaur, owl aliens, alien mates, a giant frog, and an engaging plot with incredibly hot spice. LIKE ONLY SHE COULD DO IT I FEAR.

  • Bethany (Beautifully Bookish Bethany)

This was absolutely absurd. I didn't enjoy it as much as her Mead Mishaps series, but I think it effectively takes a problematic sci-fi trope (a serum causing intense sexual interest) and writes it in a somewhat satirical way. Does this work for me as a romance? Not really. But as an entertaining sex-forward satire? Yes, much more so.

I wasn't sold on a real relationship between the trio who get together, and their bond seems mostly chemical and sexual so as a romance, not so much. But if I sort of put that to the side, it's a wild romp with really funny bits. A Black woman gets abducted by aliens while doing fieldwork for her PhD in Animal Biology, along with the lion who was about to kill her. She ends up on a planet designed for a breeding program between human females and the males of an alien species that has almost died out. Because the abducting aliens don't think they're sentient species and oops! It's the intern who realized they f****ed up big time. But she's already connecting with two alien males, and dealing with dinosaurs because they didn't do their research very well...

It's an absurdist send-up of late stage capitalism and how humans often engage with the animal world, throwing in plenty of aliens, sexy bits, and pink dinosaurs.

Quite peculiar with a lion and dinosaur. Wasn't awful, just odd. Quite a bit of steamage, too. RTC

DNF on page 127. I enjoyed the first two books of the Mead Mishaps series. I loved the characters from that series. I love Kimberly Lemming’s sense of humor and spice. But from what I read in this book, so far it was a chaotic cluster fuck. The story was all over the place. I didn’t care for the characters at all and the spice was meh. It wasn’t for me.

This book was a wild RIDEEEEE.

I truly didn’t know what to expect from this one, but the plot was plotting and there’s mortal peril and I read this in almost one sitting because I couldn’t stop reading.

Dory is a brilliant fmc, literally. She’s a PhD candidate studying meerkats when she’s beamed up into an alien spaceship and dropped off in a new planet with the lion who almost killed her. when searching the planet with her new talking lion companion, toto, she runs into Sol. who just happens to be her mate. And then she runs into Lok, who is also her mate. hehehe. The three of them, with toto in toe, traverse the planet that’s crawling with DINOSAURS, looking for answers about how they got there and how to get home.

this book was truly a delight. I loved dory and I loved her mates. there was such a fun twisty plot that I truly had no idea where it was headed.

If you’re looking for a fun and out of this world sci-fi/paranormal read, pick this one up!

🎧 hazel addison read for dory and she was amazing. she was super emotive and brought a lot to the story. I couldn’t keep my headphones out because I just wanted to keep reading and falling for these characters. thank you PRH audio for an arc!

DNF. This was described as a hilarious alien romance, and I was attracted to the cover and title. I was rejected for the ARC, which shows their good sense. I was in the mood to read a humorous fantasy and purchased the ebook. Big mistake, as it wasn't what I expected. It was messy and silly, and not in a good or enjoyable way.

I had never read K. Lemming's previous books, but I discovered many reviewers had loved them but considered this a disappointment. On Earth, Dory is working on a PhD in wildlife biology. A lion is close to attacking and eating her, but they are interrupted by being abducted by aliens. The lion became her best friend, and they had amusing conversations. She named the lion Toto. They crash land on an unknown planet. A small, colourful owl-like creature informs Dory that she is to be part of a breeding program. There is a pink dinosaur and other dangers they try to avoid. Any humour seemed forced; unfortunately, I did not find it fun or funny.

She meets two alien men from enemy tribes. Their anatomy has similarities to earthlings, but with additional parts such as horns and a tail. Dory finds them instantly attractive and desirable. No romance is evident. They rush into explicit, lewd and lurid sexual activity. The two males can be brutal and domineering during sex. This is low level smut with cheesy conversations, not that Dory minds.
What is left of the plot is chaotic, progressing from silly to ridiculous. This book was not for me.

  • Mara

This is pretty bananas, which is fun, but I'm not sure it came together as well as I would have hoped given how much I've liked the author's other series. Maybe if we got a POV from Sol or Lok in the first 3rd? I think the main characters just don't have enough of a connection to each other or the reader to make the smutty scenes very impactful other than just pure eroticism.
That said, love the camp of this and I adored Toto as a MVP side character

  • Rachel L

This being my second smutty alien book, I went in with low expectations and that helped a lot! This was a leave your brain at the door kind of read where women are abducted by aliens, there are talking tigers, pink one armed T-rex's exist. My only big gripe about the cover is it only shows one love interest when there are two in this book so it can lead to some confusion.

My only other super smutty alien read was Ice Planet Barbarians which in the first pages had gang rape, murder and spilling of buckets of human excrement followed by immediate dubious consent issues with the hero and it made me feel sick while reading that book. I had avoided smutty alien books ever since. Having that as my only comparison, I was very happy with this book and was able to really enjoy it. I thought the author handled some of the more triggering aspects of this genre really well and I was able to enjoy the story. I still couldn't completely ignore some things, and therefore it's a 3 stars I liked it rating. But I would be willing to try more by this author, I've heard great things about her demon books.

  • Sonia

I feel some type of way…

    Sigh.

I don’t even know what to say 😬🫣.

I’m speechless 😅. Normally, I devour Kimberly Lemming’s books. The Mead Mishaps series is one I’ve reread because of how fun it is to me and I just love how unique KL’s voice is in it.

But this one? Ugh. This one was TOUGH for me 😭.

    Maybe it’s my mood?
    Maybe it’s work?
    Maybe it’s cause I’m hungry?
Maybe it’s because my dog barked?
I don’t even know 😭 but I found myself looking at the percentage more so than any other book in a loooong time. And for this being a KL book, I was so disappointed 😭

It was like I sat down to eat the delicious salad I normally eat, but instead, I was served random ingredients mixed in with the greens and veggies I love, and I reluctantly ate it all because I know my favorite greens are in there somewhere as long as I keep digging around for them 😭.

I guess I should get to the book ha?

Dorothy/Dory is getting her PhD in wildlife biology. She’s in the middle of documenting wildlife when she gets attacked/approached by a lion, and then, suddenly, she’s abducted by aliens and taken somewhere else 😬.

And the lion? The lion ends up being one of her bffs, and she names him Toto 🤣.

Yes. Just like the Wizard of Oz 🤡.
Cause, there’s no place like home and all 🤣.

Aliens come and help heal Toto’s injury after he risks his life saving Dory.

And then we meet Sol 👀 and eventually Lok 👀; just look at the cover 😅. That tail has an amazing purpose 😉.

    But I digress…

I’m all over the place 😅
    Just like this book 🫣

    POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD

Anywaysssss, Dory finds out that she was taken (along with other humans) because of how compatible she is with other species when it comes to reproducing, and she’s actually being observed on purpose and hopefully gets bred 😅. She’s a lucky one, cause she gets to practice this with TWO males 😉

And there’s other stuff going on too.
    Will they get their HEA?

    What I liked:
—the times I smiled and giggled 🤣. KL’s signature banter is in there, but it didn’t appear as much as I’m used to

—the 🔥. Look. I’m not the biggest MMF fan, but I still appreciated the 🔥. It happens pretty quickly once Dory meets Sol and Lok 😅. So it feels insta ish. Once they start, they continue all the way til the end 😉.

—the dirty talk 🥵. Who knew these aliens could be so filthy 😮‍💨

—the suction on that tail 😅. Oh to be so lucky 🫠💦🔥🤣🤣🤣🤣

—Lok calling the shots, and Sol being there too 👀

    —he (they) calls her Stardust

—dinosaurs? Imagine living among them 😳 pretty cool… And kind of scary 🤣

—TAMAGOTCHI!!!!! Yall don’t understand! I was taken back to my childhood 😭. Like. What?!?!? Give me back my youth 🤣😭

—Toto!!! lol at first, he was frustrating, but man that lion grew on me 🤣 especially when he finds his “queen” cause he’s allllll about her 👏🏻

—the side characters 👀 I can tell I’ll probably like the next book more than this one 😅🫣

    What I didn’t like/wanted more of: SPOILERS
—for the first half not to be as slow as it was 😭. It took me DAAAAAYS to finish this!!! It normally doesn’t take as long 😭. Things needed to make sense, and I felt like there was everything but the kitchen sink in this one. Like. Why were we introduced to the “bad guy” so late in the book? I needed there to be reasoning behind so many decisions. Why dinosaurs? Will they play a part? Or was it just because 🤷‍♀️

—more buildup 😅. The first 20/30 percent felt so loooong, and when Dory, Sol, and Lok have their first 🔥 at about 30%, I was bugged eyed 😳 because I needed some buildup. Sure. There’s the serum or whatever it was called that Dory had because of the experiment/observations being done, but come on 🫠

—for there being other human females, why didn’t we see them sooner? It definitely gave me IPB vibes 😅

—I struggled with the MMF aspect 😅🫣 maybe because I went in blind and didn’t expect it? I don’t know 😭 it just felt like it came out of nowhere for me 🫣🫠

Overall, I think I might need to reread this to see if I can like this more. It’s definitely my least favorite KL book 😬. Even with that being said, I still enjoyed some parts.

Hopefully the next one is better for me🫣

I really love the Mead Mishaps series, so I assumed this would be at least, like, passably enjoyable for me. That was not the case. This book contains none of the things that I liked about Mead Mishaps (lovable characters, actual romance, strong female friendships) and literally all of my least favorite sci-fi romance tropes. The blurb kind of obfuscates that this is a sci-fi “romance” of the alien-breeding-program variety, which feels… important? Like, that’s a pretty niche thing that maybe that shouldn’t be a surprise? Ice Planet Barbarian fans will like this. If you were hoping for likable characters, or a plot, or romance, you may be disappointed.

No rating, I can’t rate this. I am just simply not a chemically-induced-forced-mate-bond kind of reader, and I did in fact say: “ew, no” out loud multiple times over the course of this book. But genuinely, from the bottom of my heart: to each their own.

  • Elizabeth

I was excited to receive this advanced reader copy from Netgalley. The Mead Mishaps books have been a blast with their campy blend of medieval fantasy with disregard to historical accuracy. While the modern language threw me off at first, I have long been won over by the fun stories with great characters. I was looking forward to the author's first alien romance, which often gets campy (the genre almost cannot help itself). Plus, the author just became traditionally published (good for her) so I was excited to see what we would get.

Well, I am sad to say that what we got was not good. This is like a book written after you get a traditional publishing contract and you have no idea what to write but you're on a deadline. Plus, your publisher doesn't provide any additional support so you sit down to do a stream of consciousness and get it published as soon as possible to cash in on all the fans you brought in on your own, before you had a publisher behind you.

Ya, this book is like it was written in one sitting with a prompt and no one edited it to make sure the story made sense.

I had to stop after 20% in because my eyes were rolling and I just could not. In honor of not providing spoilers, but still ranting, here are some ridiculous things I don't understand. Why wasn't she provided with a development editor to help make the story better than a stream of consciousness?

    1. The heroine doesn't seem as smart as I would expect from a PhD candidate focused on animals. She fights and kills what she doesn't understand, puts herself in unsafe situations, and generally is chaotic.

    2. The worldbuilding makes absolutely no sense. The heroine is working on her dissertation by laying in the Kalahari desert where she gets attacked and almost killed by a lion. There is no way she's alone filming and talking on the phone while working in an area that is so unsafe. Also, she can talk/understand different languages by exchanging saliva with another being (this includes animals as well as humanoids). Let's also mention the idea that her phone still has battery life and she uses it to do a "captain's log" and take selfies... while on an alien planet. 🙄

There were so many things that were like listening to someone explain a crazy dream: disjointed, chaotic, nonsensical. Ugh. I am so disappointed.

I really don't have the patience to make it through this book.

  • Elle G. Reads

This book was SO MUCH FUN! I wasn’t expecting it to be as spicy as it was either. I was shocked at the first MFM scene especially considering it was her first time with ALIENS! Their body parts and “affections” are quite different than regular human males, so I enjoyed that (plus, the tail gave me the giggles).

One of my first thoughts as the plot started to pick up was that it felt like that tv show from the 90’s LIVING IN THE LAND OF THE LOST. Although instead of a family it’s a woman who is nearly killed by a lion (who eventually becomes her friend), picked up by an alien spaceship that contains 12-inch owl aliens, and is dropped off on a planet where things are quite… lively. There’re dinosaurs, alien men, and so much more. The reason behind her being picked up by these aliens is quite funny as well and makes me excited to see who’s next in the lineup in this series. I think it’ll be a blast to read through.

If you don’t mind sci-fi alien romances with spice and can enjoy far fetched plots that are truly there to make readers laugh then I highly recommend this one. I had a great time reading it and am anxious for another one to be released!

Because it's Kimberly Lemming I knew to expect a hilariously (and smutty) fun read! However, this is a 3.5 star read for me especially in comparison to her Mead Mishaps series.

This whole novel is a whirlwind of action, comedy and hormones. The action starts right away and Dory Valentine is attacked, abducted, ejected from a spacecraft and saved by a sexy alien... and then another! A lot is going on all the time but in a messy kind of way.

As usual I loved the banter, the ridiculousness of it all (pink t-rex anyone) and the spicy scenes (why pick one when you can have two sexy aliens) but something was unfortunately missing from this novel. The love interests' characters weren't well developed, the plot was hazy, the smut to story ratio wasn't properly balanced and the bad guy only showed up at the end! I believe she may have tried to cram too many good ideas in too little pages.

That being said, I laughed out loud numerous times, I now want a pet lion, I wouldn't mind if my husband started calling me Stardust and I am still looking forward to reading the rest of the series. But Mead Mishaps is far superior in character development and story flow.

I Got Abducted By Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com is a lighthearted and somewhat madcap novel that follows protagonist Dorothy “Dory” Valentine as she goes from being attacked by a lion while studying meerkats for her PhD, to being abducted by owl-like aliens.

One unexpected crash-landing later, Dory and the aforementioned lion are on a fever dream of a planet with pink dinosaurs, nonsensical billboards, replicas of human objects and even other aliens. Two of whom she ends up entangled with romantically and physically due to the mechanizations of an Owlish intern for their breeding program.

I’m not generally a fan of forced relationships, but I was well aware of what I was getting into with this novel and there were also trigger warnings presented in the preface, which I appreciated. Dory’s love interests Sol and Lok grew on me as the novel progressed and while I did wish there was a bit more connection with the characters before the spicy scenes, that is a personal preference and not a slight against the writing.

I Got Abducted By Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com really shines with the author’s delightful and unique humor and wonderful secondary characters. Toto the lion is my second favorite chapter after Dory, who is quite relatable in her joy of observing various animals, while also trying to keep herself together as she deals with situations far beyond her control.

I preferred the first part of the book to the second part, as the plot and the world-building became slightly more complicated and also felt as though it was preparation for the next novel with the introduction of specific new characters.

If you have an interest in a hilarious, smutty and almost-whimsical alien abduction romance with multiple partners, then this book would be up your alley.

a silly goofy fun time filled with hot aliens & pink dinosaurs

in the market for a fever dream jurassic park on an alien planet, replete with tamagotchis and a talking lion? step into my office.

y’all already know that i worship the ground kimberly lemming walks on. i devoured the full mead mishaps series, and physically squealed in delight when i got approved for this ARC – two of my most favorite things: kimberly’s beautiful, unhinged mind and alien romance. this should’ve been a slam dunk for me, and while it was fun, cute, and utterly wild in the best way – i fear it hit the limit of too unhinged for me.

this is, at its core, silly as f*ck. the story opens with a phd student – dorothy! – as she’s orchestrating what is functionally meerkat manor (an underrated classic imho), until fate intervenes and she finds herself on an alien planet that seems to be a strange amalgamation of creatures, homes, and items belonging to various times in earth history. a pink t-rex! a sloth! a defies-the-laws-of-biology giant toad! and of course – tamagotchis that a sentient owl species uses to track the mating habits of the species inhabiting the planet.

in short: it’s so deeply unserious that it feels like a dream your subconscious mashed together in the midst of a benadryl nap. and while the extent to which this story refuses to take itself seriously is delightful and charming, it’s also a bit overwhelming. there’s such a thing as too much silly, and this book surpassed it by miles. leagues, even.

ultimately, this is a fun, quick, scorching f*cking hot read, just prepare for an unpredictable rollercoaster of goofiness.

eternal thanks to the berkley overlords for the opportunity to read an early copy of one of my most anticipated reads of 2025! pick this up when it drops in the end of aquarius season for a short, exhilarating, unhinged ride of a lifetime.

i received a digital review copy from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. this did not affect my rating.

dorothy valentine is so close to getting her ph.d. in wildlife biology when, on an expedition, she’s attacked by a lion. instead of dying, she’s rescued…and abducted…by aliens. when dory and the lion escape their captors, they crash-land on an alien planet that has dinosaurs. they’re saved by an alien named sol and later team up with lok, who may or may not be a war criminal. as they explore this new planet and battle prehistoric creatures, dory can’t deny the attraction growing between the three of them.

i was SO excited to hear that kimberly lemming had a new book coming out! i loved the mead mishaps series, and i knew this book would be just as, if not even more, incredible. sure enough, i had a great time reading this. i loved how dory’s passion for wildlife biology flourished on this new planet. i also loved the romance, which is good since this is, after all, a romantic sci-fi/fantasy book. i highly recommend this, and i can’t wait for book two!

This was not terrible but it did not have what I would have wanted from this setup.

One major lacking item for me was multiple POVs. I think I needed that to see the chemistry/interest they had in each other.

The humor worked and at times felt forced.
