"We need to encourage an understanding that inner peace comes from relying on human values like love, compassion, tolerance, and honesty, and that peace in the world relies on individuals finding inner peace." -- His Holiness, the Dalai Lama These six words-- please heal my fear-based thoughts --change lives. In this brief and inspiring book, based on Engle's study of A Course in Miracles , she explains how to use the prayer and experience immediate benefits:
A typical prayer goes something like this: "Please help us find the money to pay our mortgage this month." Saying the prayer may help you feel like the burden of that month's mortgage has been lifted, but the part of you that feeds on fear will simply seek out new financial worries to keep you awake at night. Old patterns remain intact. In contrast, asking, "Please heal my fear-based thoughts about our mortgage" lifts the burden AND relieves the need to re-create that fear and hold onto it. This prayer heals your very desire for burdens, your addiction to fear-based thoughts, freeing you to live without that fear and with greater peace of mind. As a result, your financial situation is also free to improve. That's what makes it so different. One Facebook fan told Engle, "The most blessed aspect of this prayer is all the open space it creates for peace--I never knew how many fear-based thoughts were clogging up in me until... this prayer."

All of us have moments where life feels overwhelming. In between meeting the demands of work, family and our own high standards, fear-based thoughts can creep in – and, our attempts to bat them away can feel like trying to sweep the ocean away with a broom. One simple prayer – “Please heal my fear-based thoughts” – can help you build resilience and find space in the chaos. It can also help you understand that sometimes you don’t need to fix the problem, you just need to have your thoughts about the problem healed. Saying this prayer puts you, and the world around you, on the path to greater peace of mind.

Superb book. Very insightful and in my opinion very helpful.

I read this because a parishioner really wanted me to, as it had impacted them and their way of thinking. The premise of this book is certainly interesting. I think I would’ve preferred it as an article, which would have conveyed its point more succinctly. It felt overly drawn out and redundant, to turn it into the length of a book. I would also be interested to count how many times it referenced 'A Course in Miracles'. I’m glad that course has been so impactful for the author, but sometimes it felt like a bit of overkill, and using multiple resources to cite can be beneficial. This book seems like it would be ideal for certain types of Christians, it just didn’t quite fit my needs.

I received this book in a Goodreads free giveaway and I love it. It is a huge morale booster and I even read some of it to my highschool football team before our last game this past week. Guess what, we had the best season in over 5 years at our highschool and I am so proud of all of them. But anyways this book is very well written and set up, it is enjoyable to read and really helps you clear your mind. The perfect book to read in the bubble bath.

This little book is a treasure. Don't let the "prayer" in the title put you off if, like me, you are non-religious. This is about a practical practice toward peacefulness. Good storytelling enhances the powerful message. Enjoy!

The prayer is brilliant, the book, not so much.

In life, we all face overwhelming moments. In between those moments in life, fear-based thoughts can creep in, and attempts to let go may seem impossible. One simple prayer might help- “please heal my fear-based thoughts “. It could build up resilience and help you see the bigger picture in times of trouble. Thus, we could then start healing ourselves by having your thoughts about the problem healed, not necessarily fixing it. The goal here is to put you, and those around, on a path to greater peace of mind.

Devoured in one day. I LOVED it. It addressed so many things I've been thinking lately. Such a simple concept!

What I wish I had now is a walk-through of all the examples of negative emotions/outlooks/framings and how each one specifically derives from fear. She did a great job of finding the origins of boastfulness and judging others in fear. I wish I had 500 examples like those tracing the derivation back to fear!

This is an amazing book - I laughed, cried, understood, and appreciated. Pleased with myself that I valued my being enough to purchase it. Highly recommend. Every page including the forward by the Dalai Lama. Initially purchased to decide whether or not to take a course with Debra, kudos. Keep up the inspiring work Debra, thank you. God bless all who read this book.
