The End of Everything (The Risen Dead, Pt. 1) Reviews

The first part in what appears to be a serialized story about young love in the zombie apocalypse, Born Again Christian style. Yup, nothing like a religious hang-up or two to blame on the zombies. Add some taboo monkey sex, and this book has the potential to be one hot mess. Too short to tell here, however.

I felt that the character was too naive, and the parent's too stereotypical (for Southern Christians). The only somewhat decent character was the male lead/lust interest, I say somewhat because near the end he kept throwing that whole sin/guilty conscience/God's gonna punish us for doing the nasty thing. Maybe my dislike is because I'm an Atheist and when ever someone blames the worlds problems on something as trivial as two consenting adults getting it on I just want to roll my eyes. I also didn't like the character's overuse of the word like. Makes us Tennesseans look bad. ;)

    I'd give this 3.5 stars...

Short and sweet, for the most part this was an interesting read. The number of typos and times the author slipped between past/present tense was a little ridiculous considering how short the story was, but my biggest complaint was the repetition in the main character's dialog. I also felt there were a few things off about the MC's personality. She was raised in a conservative Christian home by fanatical parents, was afraid that everything would send her to hell, yet repeatedly said "Oh my God." Didn't fit with her character AT ALL.

While the story had some merit and I love anything zombie, I was a tad creeped out that the characters were raised as brother and sister. True, they weren't related by blood, but they'd been siblings their whole lives so it was a bit far-fetched.

Overall not a horrible read, and I'll probably pick up the second one because I like zombies so much.

...I don't even. Just: no. (There were no typos. I just feel like I got hit in the head with a mistranslated bible. This was everything I don't like about religious fiction, trying to be "cool," but twisted into erotica. Seriously, wtf.)

It's my two favorite genre's combined, what's not to love. I just wish it was more in depth. It would make a great full length novel. Also it needed a little more editing, but not too bad.

  • Elizabeth

This book was ok. It was a short read.

    Great Story Line

This has a great story line. I wish the book was longer, but what do you expect from a free story.
