This collection of reports, commentaries, interviews and opinion columns, which appeared in Haaretz during Ariel Sharon's life and immediately following his death, is an attempt to encompass those many facets and contradictions and offer a warts-and-all portrait from a wide range of different viewpoints. It includes prominent current and former Haaretz writers such as Aluf Benn (now Haaretz Editor-in-Chief), Ari Shavit, Akiva Eldar, Chemi Shalev, Yoel Marcus, Yossi Verter, Amos Harel, Gideon Levy and Yair Ettinger, and outstanding Israeli and American Jewish writers and commentators, such as David Grossman, Amb. Daniel Kurtzer and Rabbi Eric Yoffie.
Love or loathe, respect or revile, Sharon for all his sins and saving graces deserves to be seen as a man in full.

While I only gave this book three stars, it was more because politics is not really a strong interest of mine. While this book presents an insight into the political life of Ariel Sharon I prefer more biographical writings. The articles were well written and from various view points either supportive or against the policies Sharon put into place during his time as Leader. There are not so many intimate looks into the person who was Ariel Sharon, but you do get a sense that despite his shortcomings there was respect for this man.

For anyone interested in seeing what Haaretz reporters had to say about Sharon over the years as general, cabinet member, and prime minister, this collection of articles is invaluable., L. Derfler
