Being from the hood, I thought it was only right to have a young rich thug who didn’t play about me. But when reality hit, I was just another single mother with a baby daddy in the grave and fake friends posting on social media, “This one right here hurt. You messed the city up with this one.”

After my high school sweetheart was taken from me, I swore off the streets and every man tied to them. For eight years, I tried to move different—tried to love men who were “safe.” But all I got was broken promises, fake love, and a cold heart I stopped letting anyone get close to. That was until I met him.

Joker is the last man I should’ve ever trusted. He’s dangerous, unapologetically ruthless, and wears a mask—both literally and figuratively. But maybe it was the way the ink was etched into his skin—some pieces covering scar wounds from the past, others telling stories of hurt, love, and prison—that made him impossible to ignore. Every tattoo had a meaning, and somehow, each one pulled me deeper into his world. He didn’t just step into my life; he took over my heart, my mind, and my soul—whether I wanted him to or not.

Joker isn’t the type of man to fall in love. But with me? He did, hard. And his love isn’t sweet or safe—it’s raw, obsessive, and terrifyingly real. He’ll protect me at all costs, even if it means turning the streets upside down. Anyone coming between us better be ready to pay the price because Joker doesn’t play about me.

"Tall Red Dude With Tattoos" is Taniece’s most explosive and gripping love story yet. Fans of her unforgettable novels—"A Virgin BBW & A Rich Huncho", "The Virgin Wife Of A Billionaire", "Pregnant By A Down South Millionaire", and "Taken By A Wealthy Man"—will fall head over heels for this African American romance packed with heartbreak, loyalty, and a love so raw it’ll leave you breathless.

3rd. act break up and cliffhanger

This is one of those stories that start off well enough and then go south and then travels into what the hell am I reading. To me, when writing Rich Guy/Poor Girl. You have to be careful with the details cause too many details can mess up the story. Dropping too many label/brand names cheapen the characters. Then you have to make sure there situations match the income bracket you as the author are out the characters in. For example. He has two ultra expensive vehicles, lives in a penthouse with a doorman, valet, and front desk security but he orders in Cracker Barrel for breakfast in bed? There aren’t any nice restaurants around his penthouse? She is super broke lives in the projects can’t afford anything but she had a whole color coordinated outfit for her son’s first FB game??? Little stuff like that bothered me but I tried to ignore it.

The author was way too detailed about insignificant stuff. It was hard to know if the details given were necessary or not. For example the author wrote about the FMC going to the bathroom. The author details that she got up, walked to the bathroom, a guy was coming out of the man’s bathroom. They brush each other when they passed. He says sorry. She says don’t worry about it. She went to the bathroom. She has to go really bad. Rushed to the stall. Washed her hands went back out and met back with her friend. I was like was the guy following her? Did something happen when he brushed past her?Was someone in the bathroom waiting for her? Was something going to happen when she came out the bathroom? Answer to all was no. It was just unnecessary detail. This made me start skimming the story cause I absolutely hate unnecessary details especially in a story with plot holes.

Another thing that irked me was all of the characters are delusions. The MCs and side characters are crazy or dumb. The MMC builds this relationship with the FMC in his head and he is far gone long before she even knows who he is. The FMC is a simpleton. Everything about him reads dope boy but because he doesn’t tell her he is she is just blissfully ignorant. Monica is text book delusional. I mean how many times can someone tell you point blank that they don’t want you. Dough boy is just a lackey for a crazy ass dude. Krissy seems suspicious. Jah was delusional. All of their interactions between all the characters make less and less sense the more the story goes on. It took everything in me to not DNF.

Then at the end, there is the stupid 3rd act break up where Joker is threatening to kill Halo, there is the introduction of more unnecessary POVs and unconnected, unresolved, plot points and an out-the-blue but obvious unbelievable plot twist and cliffhanger. Needless to say I don’t need to read the next book. Knox is either a super trash ass dude or he has a twin. My guess is a twin.

    WTH

Aht aht what we not going to do is leave us with this cliffhanger! I ate this book down and kinda was able to predict the ending but still trying to figure out the How he did it?

  • JMonique

This was so good!! That cliffhager tho! Can’t wait to get into book 2!

  • B. Hu$tle Ali

    Ugh...eyeroll.

I hate books that don't tell you there will be a cliffhanger or part 2. What if I didn't want to read a series? And this book just came out so now who knows how long I have to wait just to finish even part of the story since the cliffhanger was so sudden and crazy?!

  • Candy Nicholas

That better be an identical twin of Joker or his daddy at that restaurant with Krissy and Halo. If it's him, there's no redeeming his ass, Taniece. Don't even try, sis! At some point in the book i was like dang these heffas might be dating the same dude. But after seeing the way Joker was coming behind Halo, there's no way he's cheating on her. There's just no way. And how Halo didn't realize that Joker was a drug dealer is beyond me. Ol girl is really gullible or just plain stupid. That man had loads of money. Why she didn't ask him what he did for a living?! Then she be like OK whenever he has to leave suddenly. What happened to asking "where you going?!" This is a good read as usual by Taniece. At first i was like "this book a lil fluffy" cuz there weren't anything interesting happening. It was just cute the way Joker was treating Halo. But I feel shit about to get real interesting since Monica delusional ass went to the cops. And Joker's mom is getting shot at. I wish i knew this wasn't a standalone cuz I would've waited before reading this book. Oh well... patiently waiting for book 2

  • Ashley Thomas

    Eeehhhh

This book was simply okay and too predictable.
I don’t know if I really liked any of the characters and she left it off on a cliffhanger but I’m certain it’s not what it appears to be.

  • Keisha Renny

DNF’d at 63% The colorism that’s featured in this book got me at a loss of words. My fault for excusing it the first time. I thought it was going to be a one time thing with one character but nope, happened twice with another character. Does this author have an issue with dark skin people?

Secondly, there’s too many details but not enough storyline. What happened with the pregnancy test? That was at least 70 pages ago. We don’t need three pages about how someone took a shower and put lotion on. I don’t need to know about all the designer labels or how the CFA worker asked “is that all”

    This book wasted my time.

    WAIT!!!

That CLIFFHANGER!!!!! When a man who has never loved a woman except their mom finally does it and will crash out behind that woman!

Knox aka Joker, was nothing tho play with and all that knew him, knows that! But we all know there is ALWAYS someone who will test that logic! Being a man who always gets what he wants, was face with a challenge when he laid eyes on Halo. She was the challenge he did not know he needed. I rock with Joker for the love he has for kids and the thing he did for them. My question is what cause him to be this way? This man was nothing to play with. The fact that grounded up human remains and had served at a party was diabolical 🫣. The way he was putting up effort to get Halo, babe where them type of men at 🤣! Joker has found that one that brought him peace and due to lies and the life he lived, he’s unsure where that leave him with Halo. I need to know what happened with his relationship with his father? The way he dislike that man.

Halo, babygirl has had it rough since her teenage years. Pregnant at a young age, losing her first love/father of her son Brave, mother being arrest for accessory to a crime that landed her behind bars for some time, she was really left along with the exception oh he best friend Krissy! I love the friendship of them two, because Krissy was there and stood 10 toes down behind Halo! Through her struggles and being a single mother, my girl had it rough but she made it work the best she could until she met Joker. She tried her best to curve this man but the pressure and persistence that he display, weaken that shield she had up. After the beautiful dates, him asking her to be his and amazing adult activity all that changed due to the truth the late was revealed to her about the life Joker lived. Not only did she had to deal with that, she was dealing with her mom fighting cancer and her father surfacing after her mom reached out to him once diagnosed! Halo was dealing with a lot but that was just the beginning. The ultimate was when her friend Krissy final was introducing her to her man she’s been dating. That shocker there was the least of my expectations but only time with tell!

Oh we can’t forget about Jah or that dang Monica!!

Jah was in love with Halo, but she wouldn’t give hi the time or day bar cause of the life he lived and the age difference. He protected her and Brave while living in Ridgeview projects! He curved everyone that inquired about her. But when Joker started coming around, his vibe and energy changed and he told Halo to be careful. After coming into some money, Jah life’s changed and he started moving different! The fact that he thought him coming into money would Halo mind but beyond me. What didn’t like about Jah is how he hated on Joker to cause havoc in his and Halo relationship. He should have allowed her to find out about Joker life on her own!

This here read had me in a slight chokehold and I am needing that Part 2! Again that CLIFFHANGER!!

  • Monica

    Dull, Selfish and Unlikable characters

Way too many open plot lines. The FMC is a terrible mother and horrible friend but we are supposed to like her and root for her love journey?! First she is an absentee single mother, shows up late to pick him up, rude AF, has no follow up questions when the teacher says he’s having trouble. Her response is to tell her son to toughen up and fight the other kids. No comfort for him or try to talk it out. Then she’s so focused on finding a step-daddy and whining about not having a father for Brave. The boy is 8 and she has made no effort to better herself or be a good example for him. Instead we hear about 3 failed relationships and her stringing the block boy “Jah” along to help pay her bills. Halo is a user and manipulative. Her supposed best friend’s mother ends up in the ER and her response is oh so you’re missing my son’s game. Nothing about how’s your Mom, take care of family, etc. The Mom is mentioned being sick a couple of times but nothing. The story just abandons the idea and goes back to how can everyone serve Halo.
Then she finally gets with the MMC only to become even more selfish and dumb. He never says he has a legit job. He’s always in a luxury car and doing “business” at random times, but she acts so shocked and hurt to find out he’s a drug dealer. Like maybe ask how he gets paid before you end up pregnant. There’s NO character development and poor descriptions. I can’t tell you what any of them actually look like. And “mother of the year” Halo got Jokers card, new car, new house and her selfish ass goes on a shopping spree for herself and the house but doesn’t think to buy her son new clothes?! We find out that’s why the boy has been getting teased at school. Joker has to pick him up and step in as a father. She again forgets to pick him up, won’t answer her phone and almost gets her Dad shot. Also there was way too much detail on the wrong stuff. We don’t need to know she got a hand towel and the order of putting her clothes on every single time she takes a shower. And like 2 pages of why Joker’s mom prefers Dunkin and her whole order through the drive through, and taking her first sips. It just seems like the author was more concerned with writing unhinged characters than a viable storyline. And the “Bronx” surprise is too predictable once it took 300+ pages for the Besties to meet each other’s men. Book 2 is obviously a twin trope and sadly none of the characters seem worth a continued read.

  • Ari the Creative

I ain’t gone hold you. I lowkey love Joker, but in my defense I got daddy issues…judge my mama not me.

Uh.. there’s a lot of long drawn out descriptions. It’s not even seeing the scene it’s just too much information about minuscule interactions/moments.
Rich guy/poor girl trope is getting played out.
There’s a decent amount of typos.

Halo is annoying and selfish. She’s one of the FMCs I usually go ahead and dnf. She’s not that green, she didn’t flinch when it came to beating up that man. Tf she thought Joker did? & I don’t think it’s fair to be made and throw a temper tantrum about his lifestyle but you’re still conveniently reaping all the benefits. She’s purposely obtuse unless she’s benefiting from if.
& jah told her she had 48 hrs & joker wasn’t her first call then she still went to visit jah. In my eyes she’s an opp🤷🏾‍♀️
Idk I kinda feel like Dough is going to flip or do some opp stuff. Like yea he makes moves for Joker but it’s something about his character.

This is my first book by this author and it was...ok.
The writing itself is good. The storytelling is very much amateurish. Each chapter ends on a micro-cliffhanger. That is fine but.... you don't get the answer to that question for many chapters and its not even presented correct. This story had a lot going on and kept falling lackluster for me with all the questions and not making a big deal about the answers.

The author also gave the most basic character descriptions ever. Like, for Joker, she doesn't even say if he had braids, a cut, locs... I guess from the cover, he has braids.

Even the friendships are not written genuine to me.

This one could have been so much more and the writing is there for it, the story just needs some work.
I'm kinda mad this is going to be a part 2. Even with the last cliffhanger, I really am not that interested.

  • Cris Criss

I’m all over the place with this one…

Joker had me hot as fish grease this whole book. BECAUSE MEN ARE STUPID! If you don’t want someone and you don’t trust them, WHY DO YOU KEEP LETTING THEM IN YOUR HOUSE? Knowing the chick Monica plotting on you…whew chile this book had my pressure UP!

Then, Halo was just as silly. You claim you don’t want a street dude, but you borrowing money from Jah and claiming he’s to you young. Yet, you take advantage of his affections. Then, have nerve enough to look crazy when he come at you. Girl stop!

I really, really want Monica to catch one between the eyes.

The ending was crazy. I feel as if Bronx is Jokers brother. Idk…we’ll see if there is ever a part 2.

  • Coia Preston

    Excuse me, Taniece.. quick question..

    Wheeeerrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee is book 2?????

I really thought Halo was going to finally be living a soft life until she met with Jah… joker was talking about marriage. He was acting like a whole father to Brave! He was snatching dudes up out the club that talked to Halo AT KRISSY’s lil birthday celebration! Him and Krissy? How? When? Joker trifling fr because Halo talked to him about her, and I’m sure Krissy did the same… and his mama and daddy trifling too.. Halo’s mama wasn’t too bad and at least had a somewhat decent reason to “protect” Halo from knowing about her father.. she could’ve just told the truth from the beginning though..

    Don’t Play With the Joker

I’m so anxious to get to the next book I didnt wanna leave a review, just give it 5 stars and keep going!!…
Halo is definitely struggling with past trauma and I hope she’s able to work through it and able to have a healthy relationship with Joker!!!…
Kenneth is a snake and Fatima needs to stay far away from him, especially when he’s doing mess with his wife right there!!!…
I’m excited for Krissy and she has been such a great friend!!!…
There is not going to be a place for Monica to hide after playing games with someone’s freedom because she can’t handle rejection!!!..

  • Briana

This book was definitely entertaining. Joker was really out here doing the most lol. He was most certainly unhinged. I did think that Halo and Jokers relationship escalated a bit fast feelings wise since it took a minute for her to want to be with him I felt she fell in love too fast so that made the chemistry lack a bit for me. I was kind of expecting it to go this way so I’m curious if the author is going in the direction I think she will for the next book. This wasn’t my favorite, but overall a fun and quick read.

  • Tracey

    OMG🔥🔥🔥

Halo just couldn't catch a break at all. Now Joker please I hope he has a twin because there's no way he could be doing Halo like that, especially now that she's pregnant. But what is Monica up too she better think before she does something she can not come back from. Mother Fatima knows she shouldn't be going backwards especially knowing her son temper. OMG so many unanswered questions need part 2 Asap.

  • LaChante Anderson

I wish I would’ve know the story is only Part 1

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️|🌶️🌶️🌶️
The story starts off intriguing but slow. I felt like some details weren’t necessary and certain scenes were just filler. The plot itself is good and I’m enjoying the character development throughout. I love how unhinged the MMC.

Definitely check for triggers if you’re someone who gets triggered easily. In my case I don’t really have triggers so I didn’t mind. 💖

  • Ko MAC

    whhhhaaaatttttt

I surely wasn’t expecting that ending. This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed every minute of it. Halo was a single mom trying to make ends meet. She met Joker who was in a crazy situationship. When I say this girl is delusional omg it’s another level. Joker finally get rid of her so he thought so he could pursue Halo. This book got secrets and so drama filled. I’m ready for the next book.

  • Breanna

    WTF Was That Ending??

This book was sooo good. This was my first time ever reading anything from this author and I thoroughly entertained, from beginning to end. I just wanted Halo to use her common sense. Like what part about Joker didn’t give drug lord??? And what was that ending? Joker? Bronx? Fatima better had had a set of identical twins that she didn’t tell anybody about, because what?

    I can’t wait until Book 2. 4.5 ⭐️

  • Denia

Okay so Eno never died and faked his death which is crazy to abandons your family because you owed money and their life was in danger. Then come back thinking you could get your family back is diabolical. Halo struggled so bad with Brave and he left when their son was a baby. Boy bye. That story is heartfelt and all but life goes on and if Joker didn’t handle the dude Eno would have been forever in hiding. Nope she got the right dude. I’m glad everybody go their happy ending and Eno learned that he could be in his sons life but he would never be a family like the way they use to be. Great finale.

  • Adriauna Canty

    please be twins!!!!!!

Please tell me that he has a twin brother, because it’s no way that Halo told him everything that she went through just for him to do the same thing to her!!!! I’m convinced he has a twin brother because Knox & Bronx ! Yea that’s what I’m going with because no way he’s cheating with her Best’Friend !
