Tokyo Ghoul, Vol. 5 by
Sui Ishida
The story was so fascinating. It's filled with a lot of action scenes and emotional moments. The story moved very fast but well developed. This series is getting better and better.
The truth that's hidden, no matter what the circumstances, is often cruel.
Intriguing. -
Punto final. -
I feel like I use this gif too often, but really ...

DAMN. THE BEST VOLUME YET.

Again, I'm enjoying it but the detectives are getting too much air time. I just don't care about them. I'd rather us be focusing on the ghouls -
This volume is so emotional and bloody!
• The action scenes are increasing gradually. And it's getting better and more exciting.
• The character development is really good especially Kaneki-kun's character. His feelings toward humans and "the value of life" are touching.
I am loving this manga so far. :)) -
*More like 3.5 stars than 3.*
After the last intense encounter with him in
Tokyo Ghoul, Vol. 4, the Gourmet was back for a second helping in this vol, leading to an unexpected team up between Ken, Touka, and the former antagonist, Nishiki Nishio. Nishiki was the surprising darling of this vol, benefitting from his reappearance by being graciously upgraded from low-level antagonist to main character ally, along with being given a backstory more interesting than the drivel in Rize's side story, and a redemption arc that deepened his character progression well.
The fight that ensued between the gruesome foursome was longsome and boresome, not to mention completely tiresome in its incomprehensibility. Just as every other fight scene in this manga seemed to be proving, the author seemed to want to ensure that you couldn't make heads nor tails nor any other body part out of what on earth happened in the fights by focusing on bizarrely up-close and random features and then adding a billion action lines as if that ever helped to create more sense of movement rather than making it impossible to picture any movement at all.
The rest of the vol was filled with a smattering of focus on Amon, a well-placed character who has lacked everything from personality to backstory for a while now. Watching the CCG stooges focus on the wrong things in their attempt to play catch up to the ghouls was painful and frustrating. And the last minute introduction of a psychopath disguised as a female-looking male junior detective seemed ominous but too excessive. His creepy goriness seemed purposefully inflammatory, no too unlike many of the aspects of this manga in that sense. -
15.09.19 I am changing my rating to 4 stars. All the things I called ‘unnecessarily shady’ before make perfect sense to me now when I’m done with the whole series. Witnessing the formation of the OG gang makes me so emotional. 😩 Having read TG:re also provides me with the new perspective through which I now see the CCG investigators that wasn’t there on my first read. The art keeps improving. The plot keeps thickening.
25.03.18 where do I start? first of all, most of the dialogues are so unnecessarily shady it’s like the characters can’t form a sentence without putting some confusing reference in it. Second, ten bucks says that the gourmet ghoul was inspired by hannibal lecter (lol he even looks like mads mikkelsen)
I really like Nishiki and his story though. and amon is cool as well. Kaneki.... is STILL annoying.
anyways! I really wanna know who that creepy new guy is. hope he brings something entertaining to the story. -

Review for vol. 1:

Review for vol. 8:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
"Eat your own flesh...you crazy Gourmet."
What's what in the story:
This time the main conflict is between Young Master Shu, Nishiki and Kaneki after Shu stole Nishiki's human girlfriend and threatened to eat her...alongside Kaneki. Touka stepped in despite her distaste with Nishiki, but would the two Ghouls and one half-Ghoul be enough to stop Shu the Gourmet?
It's another nice volume with exciting fight scenes, vivid human dramas and some emotional backstory from one of the MC. I completely like how Kaneki let Touka is enough to amuse the hell out of me!!!
PS: I like Rize's sidestory.
I think in the end, Rize is the person that makes Kaneki become a grown-up.
PSS: Mr. Yoshimura the cafe owner can be scary!!! -
1) Tsukiyama seriously needs to CALM DOWN OKAY
2) Rize is my beautiful Murder Queen
3) Nishiki Nishio needs to be protected at all costs
4) Juzo is finally here, and what an entrance he made!!! -
If anyone touches Ken or Nishio I will personally hunt them down

TOKYO GHOUL n. 5

Rivalutazione di Nishiki Nishio. Prima mi stava troppo su ... in questo numero l'ho rivalutato.
-
Nishiki’s backstory was so well done! I really didn’t expect to like him after he messed with Kaneki earlier on, but I couldn’t help warming up to him in this volume. The action keeps getting better, and the plot is super tense with the doves getting more serious about their ghoul crackdowns (I’m nervous). Another fantastic volume!

Actual rating: 3.5 stars!
These are progressively getting better as I move through the series. Still not super blown away though. I'm still waiting for the issue that makes me go "yassss!" -
Well, that was cool
Juuzo appeared -
the world is to cruel for weak like co-named keneki. Rez help him realized how pathetic a weak can be, specially a ghoul side. to do better is to last longer. eating rez made him strong. keneki personality development is soo cool. no more mourned keneki. bad badass looking keneki

Another solid instalment in the Tokyo Ghoul series!
This volume focuses heavily on a battle between Tsukiyama (aka The Gourmet) and Kaneki/Touka/Nishio. There are some seriously intense and chaotic scenes which took me a few attempts to fully understand what was happening in them but despite that I am loving the storyline and characters. (No Uta sadly in this volume).
We also get a Rize side story which I particularly appreciated and we find out something very intriguing about her! :0
Elsewhere, Nishio joins Anteiku after his bloody showdown with Tsukiyama (where he nearly lost his girlfriend, Kimi) and we are introduced to a new CCG investigator called Juzo Suzuya who I think is a little unhinged...much like the late Kureo Mado!
So there is plenty happening in this volume and I cannot wait to start number 6! If you want a horror manga which has an intriguing plot plus a great cast of characters then TG is for you! -
omg this one was just SO good! Definitely my favourite so far, hands down!
The story really starts to be more complex, and we begin to see the depth of each character.
4.25 -
Touka come sempre è fantastica!!❤ -
Tokyo Ghoul now enters probably my favorite stuff from the anime.
So what's happening? Oh yeah that psycho Tsukiyama still wants to eat Kankei but before he does that he goes after Nishiki's girlfriend and all hell breaks loose. But who comes to enter the fight? Touka, my main girl, and man is she not playing. The big brawl occurs and shit goes down. The second half of the volume goes into Rize backstory. I don't recall this from the anime so that was nice. We also have the "new" special investigator coming into the scene, and he's a bit of a fucking psycho himself. Oh great.
Good: The fight in this one is intense and really gets to show off how badass Touka is. Also the gripping storylines all come to a close for Tsukiyama and really step into some awesome moments. I loved the RIze backstory as it gave bigger views onto why she was and who she was in the end.
Bad: The new special investigator is kind of just okay. I never loved him in the anime and so far he proves to be just kind of "insane" to be insane.
Overall this volume was great. Besides a bump at the end I really loved 90% of this book. This is the best volume of the series yet. A 4 out of 5. -
The first bit of this one was honestly boring and that fight, while potentially badass, was difficult to keep track of at times. It's the last part that saved this volume with Juzo's intro and Rize's story.
-
Warning: this review contains mild spoilers for volume 4, if you haven’t read that yet, you might want to stop reading this review.
What’s it about?
After that warning at the beginning I’m gonna assume most people reading this already know so I’m gonna skip that.
Pros:
The story is still fairly interesting.
The art is very well done. One thing that makes the art interesting IMO is how the story is dark but the art, while not super cartoony, is more cartoony than one would expect from a book like this one.
The horror is the highlight of this volume for sure. It’s very creepy throughout and probably the goriest volume so far, which is one of the things that readers of this comic will probably like.
Rize is an interesting character and the chapter that focuses on her origin story is great.
Cons:
At the beginning of this volume... Remember how at the end of volume 4 some insane shit was going on with the restaurant? Yeah while in this volume it doesn’t really show how the main character lived/escaped, either that or ends that part of the story in an unclear way. This annoyed me very much.
I don’t really care about these characters anymore. Rize is the only one who is particularly interesting.
This volume is often boring.
When the action does happen it’s messy and I honestly couldn’t even fully tell what was going on.
The dialogue is awful. It’s like one of those action anime that could be interesting but is so full of dumb dialogue it’s hard to watch. This volume is the horror manga equivalent of that.
The social commentary is poorly written in this volume. I’m mostly gonna blame that on the dialogue but yeah, it’s still worth noting.
This manga does that annoying thing of setting the panels up in such a way that sometimes the page can’t even fit the entire panel and/or speech bubble. I find that annoying.
The ending is kinda stupid.
Overall:
I don’t like this volume. Sure, it has some highlights such as the art, gory horror and Rize chapter but for the most part this is kinda stupid. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not super terrible or anything but I still would go as far to say that I dislike it. I still plan on reading volume 6 but hopefully it’s better than this, if not I would possibly quit reading this series.
