Not as good as the first bookIt's like the title says a constant chase which ever way you wanna put itand they catch each othereven though the story is told through dual POV i felt the change in the characters like they were degraded a step from the state I have left them in book 1

This is book 2 and told in alternating points of view between Sophia and Dmitri You get a lot information about Dmitri his background and why he is the way he is now You better understand his feelings for Sophia Interestingly I read the author's notes at the beginning of the story and felt like I had an a ha moment She said I wrote it for myself thinking I could never publish it because Sophia's character didn't fully comply with my personal ideals I had doubts that people would connect with Dmitri and his sexually charged disturbing nature Oh I connected with Dmitri no problem there But I absolutely grew to hate and couldn't even stand Sophia There was something about her in the first book that kept niggling me about her some sort of weakness But in this book all of her uirks are out for us to see and she flat out annoyed me She's wishy washy about her ethics and morals but that may be me projecting mine on how I would react in the situation I understand her needing to stay with Dmitri regardless of his career path I didn't understand her eagerness to be part of it herself That floored me She was much assertive in this book but definitely not the southern girl assertive She snapped at one guy you will speak to me directly I'm not a decoration on the wall I'm his girlfriend Lines like that for her felt really abrupt and sudden and didn't endear her to meThe first book was about him endangering her life and career This second book felt the other way around Her presence was threatening his life and career I liked the insight into Dmitri but wanted Sophia to stop and go away alreadyIt looks like future books in this world are being developed I feel sick for saying this but I kind of want one for the mysterious B as long as we remove his torture techniues or make them all rumor and not real That might be taking it too far

This book picks up where 'Trade' finished Sofia doesn't want to live without Dmitri but he's not an easy man to find after asking Pierre to contact him she heads for St Petersburg but as days drag into weeks with still no sign of him she decides she needs to take matters into her own hands but exactly how do you find an international gunrunner who doesn't want to be found? And this is where it gets dangerous Sophia contacts a local mobster for help and she ends up dealing with Tari a very rich and powerful man but Sophia is desperate and can't see any other wayMeanwhile Dmitri is having problems of his own one of which is the fact the some of his men view him as going soft after his dealings with Sophia and are mobilising to take advantage he's also doing a favour for an old friend and the only man he trusts is distracted as if that wasn't enough he's missing SophiaLike 'Trade' this has dual POV's which I love and I really enjoyed this book although at times Sophia and Dmitri seemed almost like different people in 'Trade' Sophia had a lot of doubts and worries admittedly she generally ignored the doubts but at times her dark place threatened in this book however she evolves she moves to Russia and consorts with mobsters and killers almost without blinking We also discover about Dmitri and he softens well he doesn't actually turn soft but once we witness him with Sophia our perception of him changes well at least mine didThis is a compulsive read once I'd started I just couldn't out it down we also meet a whole host of fascinating characters There's a lot going on in this book but ultimately it's a love story and as such it's great Sophia and Dmitri don't work apart but together they're wonderful

Actual Rating 25 Stars Some spoilers aheadDamn I wanted this book to do good the first book in the series was awesome and one of my favorites this year but I just don't know what the hell happenedMy main issue was that the characters felt different Especially Dmitri we can still see him being his bad ass gunrunner self but most of the time he felt un Dmitri sighview spoilerI just don't see him as a kneeling while proposing type of guy Yeah love can change a person but not to the point where he lost some of his personality which we grew to love hide spoiler

I don't have much to add to my review of the first book in the series Dark Trade other than that I wish the author would go a little deeper into character development There are some cool people in the periphery that I would like to know about about like Tatiana and Ivan From my review of Dark Trade which still standsThis basically is the continuing saga of a woman with a tragic past who unknowingly works for a shady company and ends up getting pulled over into the dark side Dark side here being Dimitri Davydov What I liked I found Sophia's struggle with morality and fall from grace very believable unlike other books where similar plots have had me laughing at how ridiculous they are 2 The story is interesting and both characters are compelling 3 The author didn't try to hide or justify Dimitri's character He is a bad man and acts like a bad man without apology I have an issue when for example I read a book about a Mafia hit man and the author spends time trying to make it seem like yeah he is a brutal mafia hitman but he's not that bad Silly What I didn't like 1 Dimitri does not behave like a man used to being under constant scrutiny or constant danger don't want to give away plot points but there were a few things he does that struck me as being ridiculously out of character I thought the author did a much better job with Sophia 2 There is not a lot of heat or steam to the romance at all There were great opportunities for extreme sexual tension instead the romance came off as rather clinical to me But somehow none of this ruined these books for me Not sure why but when the next one comes out I will likely read it So yes I recommend with mild enthusiasm

Dark Chase by Miranda Kavi is book two in the Gunrunner Series I'm hoping for of them This story picks up where it left off in Dark Trade with Dmitri gone and Sophia left to recover and finish the whistle blowing she initiated against her former employer Having regretted her decision not to leave with him Sophia sets off to Russia in hopes that she will find him and let him know she loves him Danger lurks around every corner for her from unknown sources and her love for Dmitri puts them both in even peril while making him look weak to his peers Can Sophia handle the truth about Dmitri's dangerous life or will it prove to be too much for her?I loved this book almost as much as the first one I felt that Sophia put herself in dangerous situations because she was so drawn to Dmitri Dmitri is dangerous and exciting but real and protective with those he loves I really need Dmitri please

Five big stars for this follow up I thought the first book was hot and full of action you ain't seen nothing yet people High octane Russian roller coaster ride all aboard This story got better and better adding layer upon layer of suspense and steamy passion Dmitri and Sophia will now live in my mind forever these two went through hell to be together I also love the supporting characters they are all so well written and really come to life and add to the story I'm hoping for a book about Gram he stole many of the scenes in this book Tatiana was a hoot she should get her own book too Great series can't wait to read from Miranda Kavi

  • Carol

A fast paced crime drama with sexromance and violence This gritty tale which is the second and final part of Sophia and Dimitri's romance is a gutsy roller coaster ride of intrigue and mayhem The introduction of characters further enhanced the story and made it interesting I do hope that the next book will be about Gram This tortured soul needs his own HEA I really enjoyed this book than the first one and look forward to hearing about the gang in Russia

No surprise thereI also didn't like this book 2 The whole premise was to put it nicely weak Everything is so easily predicted and a stretch to the imagination sure she went across the world to search for a dangerous arms dealer Our leading man Did she realize 5 minutes after he left her I can't live without him anyway I obviously should not read any form this author

Better than the first book in the seriesI thought this book was better because it was along the lines of a mafia romance The thing I enjoyed most about this book was all the power he had and continued to accumulate The female lead is not weak and strong and that was a nice change of pace from what she was in the first book
