Maybe we shouldn’t have fallen so fast and so willingly.
Maybe we shouldn’t have moved in together before we went on our first date.
Maybe we should have given our wounds time to heal before we tore each other to shreds.
Maybe we should have never been together.
Houston has kept a devastating secret from Rory since the day he took her into his home. But the tragic circumstances that brought them together left wounds too deep to heal.
Five years after the breakup, Houston and Rory are thrust together by forces beyond their control. And all the resentments and passion return with more intensity than ever.
Once again, Houston is left with a choice between the truth and the only girl he’s ever loved.
The Way We Fall is the first book in The Story of Us series, which follows the tumultuous love story of Rory and Houston. The sequel, The Way We Break, will be released Spring 2015.

**3.5 - 4 ThisIsTooMuch Stars**
I don't know where to start from. This book was really intense and it will make you feel. Various emotions will probably pass through you. You may get mad, frustrated, heartbroken, depressed, happy, confused, maybe even disgusted. The only certain is that it will make you feel!
Houston is Hallie's older brother. Rory is Hallie's best friend and she was in love with Houston ever since she was 11. They share a really long and painful past. A past built in a tragedy, lies and unspoken feelings that brought them together.
What happens when fate brings them back together five years later? What happens when they always thought they would end up together, no matter what, but there are obstacles in their way? Mostly what happens when he's still holding on a secret that can destroy her?
“This is the way we fall. First we lose our balance, teetering precariously on the edge of uncertainty, until, mercilessly, gravity takes over. You can’t outshine gravity.”
This is definitely not a light read. Even though it had certain scenes that made me laugh with their witty dialogues and the well written characters, the sexy moments, I can't say it wasn't a tough one.
Houston's and Rory's story is a complicated story that will have you rooting for them and against them at the same time. I could see the love they shared, but also struggle with the circumstances that brought them together, past and present. I was trying to understand the reasons for their actions, because the present-past-present had kept me guessing.
And close to the ending I got mindblown. I couldn't have guessed. I was probably staring wide eyed and my mouth was hanging open at the revelation. I usually can predict what's going to happen or what happened, but I could never imagine that twist. I always appreciate authors who can surprise me.
This is a really captivating and heartbreaking story and the writing is so good that will suck you in. Even if you struggle, don't stop. Don't give up. I don't wish to spoil people, but this book is dealing with several sensitive subjects.. It will probably be a love or hate kind of book for many. I have to admit that I struggled at some point, but then the writing was amazing and the constant angst and twists and turns couldn't make me stop reading! Even the secondary characters had kept me interested and drawn in the story, wondering what's going to happen next.
“It doesn’t have to end, does it?”
“I hope it never ends.”
I cannot wait for the next book in the series after that ending!! This is my first book from this author, but certainly won't be the last.

The Way We Fall is a story of hurt and betrayal of love and longing. It's filled with all kinds of juicy little secrets...some that will break you and some that will build you back up.
The story is told mainly in the present but it also takes us back to some pivotal points in the past. Rory and Houston essentially grew up together and that whole time Rory has had a crush on Houston. It's basically unrequited until Houston returns home from college to discover that Rory has grown up. Unfortunately, she is still under eighteen so they have to wait.
Rory is best friends with Houston's sister, Hallie, and they both decide to go to the same college as Houston. That's when the unspeakable happens and Houston and Rory's relationship is taken to the next level. It's a little frustrating because we only learn about things in bits and pieces. And then there's the devastating breakup.
In present time, both Houston and Rory have moved on. Rory is working at a grocery store while she writes a book and Houston is pushing his homemade beer business to the next level. When they run into each other, it's as if nothing has changed. Sadly, that's not the case.
The reason I was drawn to this book was for all the angst and there's a ton of it. I was happy to get both POVs and get a better understanding of where they both are coming from. I also like that there is another book and their story is not over.
One of my favorite things is Houston's nickname for Rory and it's Scar from the Lion King. All the little plays on the movie were really funny and sweet.
There are some great secondary characters such as Troy, Houston's business partner and long time friend and Kenny, Rory's co-worker. I also liked the relationship between Rory and her mom and Rory's dog, Skippy.
Naturally, there's a huge drama towards the end that eradicates any rebuilding of Rory and Houston's relationship. We do get to find out the big secret is and it's huge. It will definitely be interesting to see where things go from here.
Favorite quotes:

♥ "The story never ends, remember?”
♥ "You'll always be the deepest scar on my heart." -
Where do I begin?
It's ends with a cliffy. (It wasn't even a pretty one -- )
The hero, Houston, is one BIG asshole. I don't care if he's 'broken'. (Btw, he got married in the five years of separation.) He's still married when he hooks up with the heroine as well.
The main chick, Rory, needs some growing up to do. "Weak" is a one way to describe her.
Here's what bugged me:
I don't know why Rory didn't move on. (She's still in love with Houston despite the years.)
He got married, she should've at least tried to invest her time as well.
In fact, Liam seemed like a way to start fresh. (Can you tell I didn't like Houston?)
All in all, it's not a bad book but it has a few things I wasn't okay with. I don't care if they still love each other, they need to sort out their crap. (Houston especially and Rory -- it seems she might give Liam a go after all.) -

***I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley.com, in exchange for honest feedback.***
'The Way We Fall' was a much more emotional story than I had anticipated. A second-chance romance story, I found myself really rooting for Rory and Houston. I wanted these two to work out their differences so badly. It seemed like every time I thought they were finally going to get it together, another bomb would drop.
Despite their obvious and undying love for each other, they almost seemed destined to spend their lives paying for past events that were out of their control. Their love grew in the wake of a tragedy, which forever overshadowed their relationship. Years later, they are still hiding from the ghosts of their past.
When Houston's younger siste and Rory's best friend, Hallie, commits suicide, the two turn to each other in their grief. Soon the two are living together and head over heels in love. However, when Rory finds herself unexpectantly pregnant, their love is put to the test and the dynamics of their relationship are forever changed.
The two part ways and try to move on with their lives. Without any contact for over five years, they are each going through the motions, keeping up the appearance of a normal life. Only, they're barely surviving, coping in the only way they know how.
When their paths cross at work, Rory and Houston attempt to rekindle their friendship. It is tenuous, at best. While Rory never really moved past her heartbreak after Houston dumped her so coldly years earlier, he has gotten married. By all accounts, it looks as if he's moved on without her.
However, appearances aren't always what they seem. Houston longs for the love and intimacy that he shared with Rory. His marriage is a sham and he is finally ready to face the fact that he only wants to be married to one woman, and it isn't the one he's married to.
Jealousy and other emotions abound. No matter what they do, somebody will be hurt. With so much on the line, it seems like history is destined to repeat itself.
A few unexpected plot twists near the end, change the course of events for Rory and Houston. It is uncertain if these two will ever manage to find their way back to each other.
After riding this emotional roller coaster, I feel like I have whiplash. I hated Houston at times, but I couldn't help but love him also. Even with his creepy stalking, adulterous behavior and callous disregard, I found myself wanting things to work out for him and Rory. He doesn't deserve her, but he is who she wants, and I want Rory to be happy. She deserves happiness.
Even though I could point out a dozen different things that irked me about this story, I couldn't help but to be completely captivated by it. Part of me wants to just cover my eyes because I'm too scared to face whatever awaits. The other part of me knows I won't be able to resist sneaking a peek because I'm dying to see how things work out. Hopefully, Rory and Houston will find their way back to each other.
All in all, I thought this was a fantastic, emotionally charged story. I will definitely continue this series. With any luck it won't take too long for all of the three books to be released. -
Well colour me intrigued! I listened to this book on audio and it's definitely one of the better ones I've come across.
Character wise, I loved Rory, always. My predicament was more with Houston, the problem being even though he made some stupid/bad decisions, wasn't always a great person or said he wrong things (both past and present).... Quite often .... I still really like him. I'm still really routing for him! That'll show you how well developed this story is.
The plot is great and the entire flow was pleasing. The pacing was on point and I was always wondering for the next moment something big would pop up.
Love the side characters and drama that keep everything interesting, plus the flashbacks from the first time these two were a couple. And did I mention the angst? I'm a HUGE angst whore #noshame so this was right up my alley. What I liked though was that there were heavy moments of angst, not necessarily the entire book being suffocating.
Plus Liam and Tessa drama? GIVE IT ALL TO ME! Seriously. *grabby hands*
Can't wait to see how the rest of the series turns out. If you like plenty of drama with some heart squeezing moments and a *potential* second chance romance, check this one out!!
I'm biased, and even though I like Liam (just a friend, not the heroine's new BF) I'm 100% team Houston. Time to find the next book! -
"I Hope it Never Ends"
Where to start? Let's see, If you are a fan of Cassia you know how intense her stories are. Her stories are all about emotions. Betrayal, lies, love, tragedy, secrets. All the real emotions that you can really relate to. "The Way We Fall" is no different.
Rory and Houston story is so complicated. Definitely life hasn't been fair with them, but there's no doubt that the still love each other so much!
The writing is amazing. Characters are strong, lovable and some you just want to slap them. That's why I love Cassia's books. Her characters are unforgettable.
"The Way We Fall" is the first book of the series and I will say this: Read it. Live it. Love it and Be ready because there is a twist you won't see coming and it's going to break your heart. I am still trying to pick all the pieces of my little heart. You have been warned.
I Strongly Recommend this book. Save the date!!! 2/20/2015
By the way Houston is Book Boyfriend Material!

It's not very well written and it's populated exclusively with unlikeable characters.
I genuinely hate them all lol. -

5 This doesn't surprise me stars!
I knew without a doubt this was going to be good! I haven't read anything of Cassia's I didn't like! This is one of those stories that pulls you in and you don't even realize how much time has went by.
It's a story of a family torn to pieces when the unthinkable happens. This is mainly between Houston and Aurora with flashbacks that include Hallie, Houston's sister and Rory's best friend.
Growing up with Hallie, Rory developed a crush on her older brother Houston. She was only fourteen and he was seventeen when she determined the like turned to love. Houston did notice, really noticed Aurora for the first time during Christmas at their house and was drawn to her but the age issue kept him at bay.

**** 4.5 Complicated Stars ****
"If ever two souls were perfectly right and perfectly wrong for each other, it would be us.”
I don’t know what to say about this one. It will certainly make you feel. First, I have to give it to Cassia Leo because she can seriously write. She can spin difficult topics into gold. You might hate what goes on in the story, but when you read about the relationship, there is only one word to describe it. COMPLICATED.
"I was always ready to belong to Houston. But I was not ready for what came after.”
Rory was always in love with her best friend’s brother, Houston. She followed him to college and admired him at a distance. When her best friend committed suicide, everything in Rory’s life shattered. She didn’t know why it happened… Why did she leave without any explanation?
There just so much that happens between Rory and Hudson. It isn’t a light book, but there were some happy moments. Rory is so witty and sarcastic. I fell in love with her character instantly. My feelings for Houston are hard to describe. Even though he did some questionable things… I still <3 him. I have to get my hands on the next book!

This just didn't work for me. Nothing about it was working. Won't be reading anything else by this author... -
Items ticked off: 15
If I had to pick one word to describe The Way We Fall it would be awkward. Not because the story is necessarily awkward in any way, but rather the entire structure and parts of the plot are. What it is, is basically a second chance story. We have two people who were together when they were younger and due to some inconvenient events, they ended up going different paths in life. When they meet five years later its a coincidence and they end up having to work together. So far, there's not much to say about the story. Rory, the heroine, is still haunted by her first love, and Houston is now married and owns a successful business. But he too is haunted by their past, especially since he knows the truth about their relationship. You see, Houston had a sister, Hallie, who happened to be Rory's best friend, and Hallie committed suicide about five years ago.
As said, there's not much wrong with this story except for its awkwardness. Even after five years apart, Rory has never even attempted to get over Houston, and Houston has been wallowing in self-pity for so long. The minute they spot each other they want to get back together. Here's the awkward part. Since we're not told or shown how their first relationship came to be, we're just supposed to accept that these two have this undying love for each other. And I did not buy this part. This story moves quickly, over just, if I remember correctly, a few weeks. In the span of those weeks, Houston is ready to give up his entire way of life, and Rory more or less is blinded by trust for him, even if she didn't have it before he showed up.
What I'm trying to say is that the story was not built up properly in regards to their history to make their love today appear believable. Apart from that, I think this is a decent story. It has its flaws, and I had minor issues with Houston's character at times, but overall I enjoyed parts of it. In the sea of New Adult stories, this isn't the worst, but it is lacking in proper development of its characters' backgrounds and history.

This is the first book in The Story of Us series and words cannot describe how much I loved this book. It is such a well-written story. When you read the last page, you will want to read it again.
It’s hard to talk about the book without giving away spoilers, so I will just tell you about the characters. Such strong characters, you cant help but fall in love with them. This is a touching story of love, loss, sacrifices, and broken hearts.
Houston is such a beautiful soul, but he has a secret that is killing him on the inside. A secret that could shatter the heart of the one girl he truly loves.
Rory and Hallie are best friends, and they have such a strong bond. They share everything, but some things just cant be shared.
Rory has loved Houston forever, even when she thought he didn't notice her. Houston is Hallie's brother and he will do anything to protect her.
You will also meet some other characters who play a big part in this book, and their lives will be affected as this story unfolds. There were parts in this book that broke my heart, and then there were parts where I laughed out loud. This is what I love about this author. She brings all these different emotions out in you.
Amazing characters and a beautifully written story. Well done, Cassia Leo. 10/10 -
"Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
The Way We Fall is not yet the end of The Story of Us but yet it is the beautiful beginning of everlasting love. They say Love is stronger in second time around. Rory and Houston story is one roller coaster journey of love, betrayal and lies. I instantly fell in love with this story, the characters and how it flows. It’s hard to talk about more without spilling some beans but I guarantee that this book is one hell of a story. Cassia will not just easily give you an epic love story because she need you to ride this long emotional journey through the amazing ending you always wanted. -
I'm just going to keep this short.
We all know that lies can hurt someone you love badly. But I think that the omission of the truth still counts as a lie.
Houston keeping the big secret from Rory that caused her to break down, had an even larger impact 5 years later when he finally told her the truth.
I fell in love with this book because it wasn't the typical quick Contemp romance type.
The plot I evened out perfectly, with the exact amount of interesring element.
This book made me understand that love can mean friendship, romantic relationship and of course family.
5/5 stars!! Totally a must-read!! -
I'm still reeling from this amazing story!! I'm feeling ALL kinds of things!! It was a very emotionally charged, HOT, beautiful and intense story of love, loss, secrets, tragedy, heartbreaking tough times and touched on some very tough topics. There's some crazy going on and hello twist I didn't see coming! Oh the chest pains this book caused me! I cannot wait for more...I NEED more!!!
-
I absolutely love The Way We Fall, Cassia Leo has out done herself yet again with this book. It's my new favorite of her's, and trust me, I'm sure you'll be saying the same by the end of the book. So in THE Way We Fall we meet Rory, she's living life to the fullest, well as well as she can after she had her heart broken five years ago. She's got a good job and has a place of her own, what else could a girl ask for right... Rory, goes to work one day and her boss needs a favor, Rory being the nice person she is, helps her boss out. But what happens next... Well Rory is about to find out when the person that she's having a meeting with, is the last person she thought she'd ever see again. It's been five years Since Rory seen Houston, Rory couldn't believe her eyes. To say they were both stunned would be an understatement.... either of them were prepared for what had just happened. So they both went on with the meeting as it was planned. Now I don't want to give to much away, so you have to read the book, but I'm telling you this story is about growth, letting go, moving on, and learning self worth. These characters have a lot of growing to do yet, and I can't wait to see them go through the next book and see what happens between them all who is were in there life and with who.... Liam, has been amazing to Rory while she's been hinge through the up and downs of life, with the job promotion and Houston being back in the picture, and Kenny....We can't forget Kenny I love Kenny he is just the best and was the best friend a girl could ask for I wish I had a Kenny I real life. Okay for real The Way We Fall is one of my NEW all time favorite!! It's a must read you'll fall in love with everything about the book and the characters. And you'll be bagging for book two The Way We Break, due out spring 2015

I'm not even sure where to start with this book...
If you've ever read anything written by Cassia Leo, you know how she sucks you in with intense emotions, witty dialogue, and characters that are so well rounded you instantly build a connection. Well, The Way We Fall is no different.
Rory and Houston's love story is one of a kind. I know you've probably read that on other reviews, but lemme tell ya... 'you ain't seen nothin' yet'. I've read more books than I can count and normally, I can always tell if there's going to be a twist, and 9 times out of 10, I know what it is before it happens.
With Cassia's books?... NOPE!
And this was true to form. The writing was just exceptional. The characters were so lovable (with enough conflict for you to want to growl at them), the story/character arcs were twisted, colorful, heartbreaking, original, yet totally and completely believable.
Everything about this book drew me in and held my attention.
I wish I could say more... but I can't. ;)
All I can say, is that I GUARANTEE you'll love this breathtaking story about love, loss, and the ability (or inability) to keep moving forward in the face of tragedy and heartache. -
Cassia Leo knows how to write an amazing and beautiful read filled with wonderful characters and a storyline that is filled with so much emotion and intensity. My emotions is still all over the place and I love that feeling when I’m reading a book. This is a story about love, loss, tragedy, and hope. I was hooked from the first page and couldn’t put it down until the end. The main characters of Rory and Houston were so real and raw. You couldn’t help but feel a connection with them. Cassia does not only write romance but she mixes them with emotional topics that will pull at your heartstrings. There were so many developments and twists that made the story so intense and I can not wait to see where Cassia will take us next. I loved this book!
-
Cassia Leo has done it again. I thought the Shattered Hearts series was amazing but The Way We Fall had me glued to my kindle all day.
Aurora's first love Is the brother of her best friend Hallie but she is a good few years younger than Houston. When tragedy strikes this brings Rory closer to him and he is there in her hour of need.
Told in different points of view and throughout the book flows back and forth in time. But this was a good way to slowly reveal the events that will have you gasping with surprise.
What big secret does Houston hold onto. Will this forever come between Aurora (Rory) and their happiness.
The next book The Way We Break is due out in the Spring and I just can't wait. -
I think this was the best work I've read from Cassia Leo so far! The writing style, the pacing, the character development, everything was virtually on point!
This book is full of feels so be prepared. Everything in this book hinges on the death of Hallie. It's crazy how warped and sadly beautiful this story is shaping out to be.
Rory is Hallie's best friend and has loved Hallie's brother Houston forever. They don't end up getting involved until Hallie dies. A 6-month tumultuous affair later, they break up. Fast forward five years and they're still in love but haven't spoken. A chance encounter rekindles the flame. Unfortunately, Houston is married. Cue the freaking drama and heartbreak. I'm not writing anymore of the plot. The book is amazing so just read it! I'm on to book 2! -

4.5 Falling Stars
I'm hooked and moving on to book 2.
The MC's were a hot mess, I'm not going to sugarcoat it.
There are several things here that normally have me dnf'ing:
1.) A long separation (5 yrs) for not completely convincing reasons.
2.) A heroine that doesn't seem to move on with her life until the hero shows up again. Rory didn't have one single relationship or slept with anyone during the separation. Come on, in 5 years?
I didn't quit because the writing and the characters hooked me till the very end. The angst was addictive.
I LOVED Houston but I'll admit he was far, *very* far from being the perfect hero. He had alcoholic tendencies and he was a liar and a cheater (not on the heroine). Yeah, there were some cringe-worthy moments but these issues/behaviors alone don't freak me out or have me hating on a character or a book. Personally, I love angsty and intense stories and expect seriously flawed characters to come with the territory. If written well, these stories can be amazing reads. Regardless of having a few reservations about this plot, I’m all in. The writing rocked and gave me the FEELS. I fell for Houston despite his offenses (hell, maybe because of them) and I can't wait to see where the story will go from here. Bring on the HOT and messy.
Update: 5 Stars for book 2
Review:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
"I was eighteen when I got lost in Houston, and in him I found myself. They say love is just two souls recognizing each other. With Houston and me it was more like two souls staring into a mirror, my left hand aligned with his right, our hearts skipping a beat at the same moment, our lungs choking on the same noxious air, our scars as perfectly aligned as mountains and fault lines. If ever two souls were perfectly right and perfectly wrong for each other, it would be us. -
The Way We Fall, wow I thought things couldn’t get any better than Black Box but this certainly is right up there as one of my favourite books by Cassia Leo.
The two main characters Houston & Rory had me hooked from the beginning. I loved Rory’s sense of humour and spunk. I admired her confidence and independence. Houston was mysterious to me, hot but mysterious! There were so many unanswered questions in the beginning as to what had happened in the past, what was the big secret he was keeping from Rory and what had happened all those years ago that tormented his very soul.
Then there is Hallie. Hallie is Houston’s little sister and Rory’s best friend. Best friends share everything with each other, well that’s what we think, but sometimes in life there are situations where you feel torn between the truth and the pain this truth may bring.
There are other characters in the book who play a major role in the story. But I will let you meet them as you delve into the story.
All I can say is this book has it all, love, loss, lies and betrayal. There will be parts that make you smile and laugh out loud. There will be other parts that will bring you to tears. Another masterpiece by the amazing Cassia Leo.
One of my favourite quotes from the book…"This is the way we fall. First we lose our balance, teetering precariously on the edge of uncertainty, until, mercilessly, gravity takes over. You can’t outshine gravity.” -
This is the first in a new series from Cassia Leo, Where we Fall, The Story of us #1.
The story is about a lost love, which was too young to last and hindered by secrets and guilt. We meet the characters Rory (Aurora) and Houston five years later when their paths accidentally cross again.
Neither one has really got over their break up especially Rory, there are emotional wounds that each have and time hasn't done anything to heal them.
Without divulging the plot (I hate spoilers) I'd like to say this book evoked feelings in me, I was reading on the verge of tears and a sinking feeling in my tummy as the book was very emotionally charged and the characters and story came to life before my eyes. even all the secondary characters touched me at some point.
If you are a fan of angst in your read then this has it in spades and it was a real page turner. This book features both POV from Rory and Houston, which I think is definitely warranted considering the theme and the feelings that the characters need to get across, this is a complex story, one that I really loved and felt bereft when it ended.
Be prepared to leave the chores and let the hubby and kids starve as this book sucks you in and is not likely to spit you out until you have devoured the wonderfiul words that Cassia has written.
For fans of Cassia Leo, this book is a guaranteed one click and will not disappoint. -
Cassia has hit another home run with this new series and I am on pins and needles waiting for the next installment.
Houston and Rory practically grew up together. Rory has been in love with her best friend's brother for as far as she can remember. Due to a tragic event that touches both of their lives, they decide to take a chance with each other. The only problem is that Houston is holding onto a secret. A secret so big, that it eventually tears them apart.
Now years later Rory thinks that she can finally move on with her life. With her best friend and the love of her life gone, she has no one else. She needs to live. She finally starts to have good things happen for her. A promotion at work, a new friend, who could become more. Then one day, one meeting changes everything.
Suspenseful, steamy and full of what ifs. I had a full range of emotions reading - wanting to cry, laugh and scream, sometimes all at the same time. Cassia is a bountiful storyteller. I can never get enough of her books and can't wait for part two of this amazing series. -
I was given a copy for an honest review.
The way we fall is absaloutly brilliant! As soon as I started I could not stop reading till I finished the book. I was gripped from the start.
This is book 1 and I'm in a bit of a book hangover waiting for book 2. If the others are to go by the 1st I think this might just be my fav this year!
I'm loving this style of writing, you will know when you read.
You will feel like a mixed bag of emotions reading this but such a perfectly written story and I want to know more on All the characters.
Enjoy this masterpiece!
