Creed Marquette has always done what it takes to make sure he and his brothers come out on top. He’s seen despair and hunger in his life, but as a newly declared billionaire in Forbes magazine, he still doesn’t feel like this is it. There’s something missing, and the fact is, despite all his hard work, the past keeps rising to influence the present. He can’t deny himself. To complicate matters, Creed’s brothers, the irresponsible men that they are, have purchased a restaurant in New Orleans, and they want Creed to join them. Leave the corporate world that got them where they are to go work a failing restaurant without experience? But this just might be what Creed’s been looking for. Now, all he needs to do is hire the chef, a sexy beauty with a smart mouth who almost killed him by serving him peanuts in his food. Well, Shada Howard did save his life while he was completely naked. Maybe New Orleans won’t be so bad after all. Not if he can tame her and make her his!

This was a cute read. This family has me intrigued.

At one of the best Hotels in New York, Creed Marquette is trying to get some much need rest, when he get a knock on his door. What he finds is a beautiful woman and suddenly he has an appetite for more than just what is on the cart she wheels. Shada Howard is trying to make a name for herself as a Chef, so she adds a special dish to the room service order for Creed. What Shada doesn’t know is the sexy billionaire is allergic to peanuts and when he takes a bite out of her dish it could be a killer, literally. After Shada gets fired from the hotel for almost killing one of their best customers, Creed feels bad for the lovely young woman and offers her a job at a restaurant his brothers, Damen & Stefan, have just purchased in New Orleans. Shada accepts the job, so she and her sister head to New Orleans to start their new life but they have no idea what the Marquette brothers have in store for them.
Good Book, this story moved at very fast pace. I loved getting to know Shada and Creed. Watching these two come to terms with their feeling and dealing with their personal issues to be with one another was one of my favorite things about this book. My only real complaint was I would have like to have seen more from the other brothers and Marissa (Shada’s Sister). We did get to meet them and get a small window into their personality but, I would have liked to have more individual background on them, including Creed, like what happen to their mother and father, how they became billionaires, why was Marissa’s family not in her life, and how Marissa and Damen got close but I guess these may be addressed in the next book in the series. Still, I really like it.

    Great Read

This was a very interesting and some parts comical. I loved the characters. They were all believable. I didn't give it 5 stars as I'm used to (and like) a more concise ending. But I'm a fan. Can't wait for the next installment.

Another good read by Tressie Lockwood. This book was short a bit rocky then sweet. The chemistry between the two was sublime

Nearly every review I have read has been critical of Shada. Naturally, I went in wondering what was setting people off. She was naive, brash and incredibly single minded but she had nothing on the title character. Creed was a self absorbed alpha-hole. They were both so predictably "every character in a bad contemporary romance" that I couldn't even get upset about having wasted time on this book.

I am side eyeing Creed's "wow, black women aren't interchangeable" epiphany after his non date near the end. Why was that oddly racist tomfoolery necessary?

    3.5 Stars

The heroine was very, very difficult and combative until the very end of the story and she spoiled the enjoyment of this story for me. Let me just say--there is no way on earth this heroine could have been a nurse. Despite her caring relationship with her foster sister, she didn't have the personality, nor the bedside manner, nor the compassion element needed to be in the healthcare field. Her behavior in the kitchen, didn't fly for me either.

I just felt this book was missing something I just don't know what it is I was bored at times even.....just not for me I guess......I felt a lot of the story was left out it jumped around so much...at one point it was like Shada and creed had been in a long term relationship saying they had done it this way many times....when did this occur??? when the book was on break??...lol

I enjoyed this story it was a fun read. Shada has lots of attitude and is not afraid of anyone. She has a sister who she is very protective of and even punched a man because she thought he was taking advantage of her. Her sister is not well. There was one sad element to the story which I won't reveal. I just loved the banter between the couple. I like this kind of read were there is nothing too deep but you have fun reading it!

Worth the read. Looking forward to the other stories.

I'm don't know if I am just growing tired of the whole explicit sex scenes or I'm just jaded...LOL. All in all the story was ok, I just found myself rolling my eyes a lot.

  • Tamara

It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.

    Pretty Good/ recommend

Everything happened so fast and it was short.. It was basically a short story or well put together web novel. I really liked the book as a short story that it is, however I feel like it could have been better explored. I did NOT like Creed talking about getting an affinity to black women as a BW I get that enough from white men and is a clear sign of fetishization! Interactive dating is great but that was totally unnecessary, Lockwood only clarified it up by making him love her. Stating how he has a thing for black women was totally ugh and left a bad taste but that along with a few typos were my only issue. I do wish it was a traditional novel and the story of Shada and Creed was explored in either a regular book or over 2 books. There's so much much that could be explained it ended abruptly and I felt there wasn't enough character development. I do recommend tho. I will be looking for some traditional books of hers so that I can get that fulfillment that novels bring.

A love story worth the read

This book started off with a memorable moment when Creed and Shada first met. And the things that followed were just as memorable. Definitely worth the read. I can't wait to read the other three books.

  • Rita

This was good. I would read this one again. I like Creed and Shada. Wish there had been an epilogue. Will continue the series.

While this book is not what I am used to from this author, since I enjoy her work I took a chance. I am glad I did! Shad a and Creed are an unlikely couple that eventually make it work. I loved the story line and cried about Marisa and her illness. I feel her illness and the issues surrounding it were handled with care. I can't wait to see what Ms. Lockwood does with Stefan and Damen.

    Loved it!

Creed is an alpha male with baby on the brain and Shada is a strong black female taking care of her sister. But when they unite its fireworks. This book is highly recommended from beginning to the end. Big kudos to Ms. Lockwood.

  • Amanda Morales larson

Both male and female dominant parts to this book. Really enjoyed a good laugh in just the first chapter. That gets me interested in a book and author. I liked this book so much that I finished out the series. Hoping that maybe there will be a 4th book or maybe a spin off for the bodyguards.

Just Discovered and as usual NOT disappointed! Ms. Tressie does it again!

Love this first installment... Been a huge fan of Ms. Tressie for forever.... she did not let me down... Love the Marquette brothers

  • Joyce

I liked the story and the characters I wish the heroine would at least meet the hero halfway in getting over her fears. Hope to get a glimpse of their lives in the sequel.

  • Camylle

This was a sweet read. It was not overly hostile or overly romantic!

  • °BeauutiLovve

I really liked this book, I laugh a lot but I wanted more.......

  • Isha

Wow...Creed is what I look for in a alpha. He's possessive and doesn't like to share. Loved it. Wished it was longer though. But I did enjoy it.

  • Rachel Billingham

really enjoyed can't wait to read more about these hot brothers and the sassy ladies who catch their eye
