Mark Souza excels at bringing characters to life. I always feel a connection with the people in his stories, regardless of setting or word count.

The stories here vary widely in genre and topic. Some stories are intense and provoke thought. Some are weirdly wonderful. Others are the creeping under your skin kind of strange. All share Mark Souza's gift for looking at the world and coming up with a new way of seeing what's in front of us.

This is a fantastic short story bonanza. From haunted houses to werewolves, witches to fractured historical fiction and more; there is a little taste of something for everyone. Some stories tickle your spine, others contain a suspenseful surprise, and there is the occasional shoulder shrug. My favorite part of short stories is if you don't like a character or plot, they are only around a short period of time. This book reminded me of "Scary stories to read in the dark" only more in depth so that adults and teens will enjoy it. This book will fit well in any library, I give it 5 thumbs up.

Most of these I enjoyed greatly, but the three I didn't really like and had to power through were the email correspondence type stories and the one that took place during the Civil War. They were interesting to an extent but they really dragged on... It was rather irritating. And I suppose I don't like the email correspondence format at all. The information was relevant but then at times, I was thinking "this doesn't really matter to the story." It seemed like filler to me. But all in all, I didn't hate them - I enjoyed each story. Just some more than others.

This is a collection of 24 scary stories each with its own unique plot line. You get everything from Haunted houses to were wolves, from fractured historical fiction to witches a little something for everyone. Some of the stories are suspenseful and contain a surprise while others send chills down your spine. A word of warning don't read before bed. I highly recommend if you enjoy a great scary read.

What a great book of spooky short stories. Each one original and with added twists. I'll definitely be checking out other books by Souza.
