The Sheikhs Pregnancy Proposal Reviews

This was truly a fabulous find!! I read at least 250 books a year, usually more, and I could read this once a week and never grow tired of it. I just finished my Twenty-Second time through! This is one of a few 'go to' books when I'm stressed or feeling blue. I absolutely adored 'The Sheikh's Pregnancy Proposal.'
***4.5 Stars***
I absolutely loved this book. There was no way I could turn in for the night until I finished every last word!
Sarah Duval is a history teacher who has had no luck in love. She is a 29 year old virgin who has a strong desire to give her body along with her heart to the one man she falls in love with and who loves her in return. Too bad she hasn't met him yet. She has become frustrated with relationships and has suffered through several broken engagements. Tired of waiting for 'The One' who she will most likely never meet she has given up her ideal dream of love, marriage and children. Tonight Sarah is throwing caution to the wind, dressing sexy, with perfect hair and make-up, far from her school teacher facade. She is determined to lose her virginity very soon and get it out of the way as she arrives at the Zahiri consulate in Wellington, New Zealand to view artifacts and weaponry.
Sheikh Kadin Gabriel ben Kadir has traveled to be present when the artifacts are displayed at the consulate. A beautiful woman catches his eye and they are both immediately drawn to each other. After a few events and not knowing who this gorgeous man is he ends up driving her home after her car broke down. She invited him in and BAM! it happened. They connected in a big way and both drawn to each other like magnets. Gabe has a dilemma. For his country to survive he must find a wealthy bride to marry so he can infuse money to save his country. His family has chosen a bride for him...almost half his age, someone he has nothing in common with. He thinks of Sarah constantly but he is now legally engaged and money has changed hands.
Four months pass and Sarah has heard nothing from Gabe and she has been and still is broken hearted, crushed. Gabe has had security watching her every move so he can make sure she is ok and also watching out for a pregnancy since they got carried away and forgot protection. Four months after they met he finds out she is pregnant and he knows he cares deeply for her...but he is breaking his own rules. Marriage is a convenience, no love or emotion allowed. He doesn't realize it yet but the rules are out the window.
This is a must read and I will be rereading it in a few months. Pick up this book and enjoy the ride as you find out what happens to the Prince, the fiancee, Sarah and his country....oh wait....Sarah's ex boyfriend shows up again too and he is a bit scary/crazy.
Why did I knock off half of a star? Gabe and Sarah had such an intense connection and the day after he met her and made unprotected love to her he went ahead and got engaged. What was troubling is that he didn't wait the two or so weeks required to have confirmation of whether there was a pregnancy or not. At the very least he could have waited to commit to the engagement until he knew if they had created a child together. I was quite disappointed that he did not. But then, we wouldn't have a story would we! Sarah's heart and soul were crushed as she anguishly waited for four months to hear from him without a single word. She felt so strongly that he was different from all the rest and that their union was a very special gift. It broke her heart to realize he so callously tossed her aside. Then he is informed by one of his guards/contacts that she is indeed pregnant and WHAM! he was there pronto. Four months and too little too late in my opinion. It was just a shame he completely dumped her without any explanation and caused her to doubt herself and her choices. His actions made her discontent towards the male species all over again after she was so sure they had a true connection. That hurt me as much as the book portrayed Sarah's hurt.
But it's a great read that I definitely recommend. I encourage you not to miss this one. -
Even if H was a dumbass, still both MCs were too sweet. I need angst!

1. His real fiancée wasn’t a virgin, but h was so that makes her an ideal substitute. WHAT MESSAGE ARE WE EVEN SENDING.
2. He had NO intention of breaking the engagement unless the h was in fact pregnant. He would have married the OW no matter what his inner dialogue was. Romance this was not.
Please give me a break. -
Good book. Sarah is a twenty-eight year old history teacher who hasn't had good luck with men. She's had two engagements not work out. Now she has taken a good look at her life and doesn't like what she sees, so she is determined to make a change. She gives herself a makeover and heads off to the Zahir consulate for a reception. There she meets a good looking man named Gabe, who really gets her motor going. When she has car trouble later that evening, he offers to drive her home.
Gabe is the heir to the Zahir throne, and as such is expected to marry. He had been married young to his childhood sweetheart, but the marriage hadn't been a happy one. His wife had been even younger than him and hadn't been mature enough to handle the life they had to lead. She was clingy and selfish and gave him no peace. She died tragically when she ran off in a fit of temper. Since then, Gabe has sworn that he would never allow his emotions that much control over him again. He is currently being pressured to marry again, and as he really doesn't care who, he accepts suggestions from his father. The night before his engagement is due to be announced he spots Sarah from across the room and is intrigued. One thing leads to another, and they share a passion filled night together. He can make no promises to her and leaves without telling her who he is, and doesn't contact her again.
Four months later he hasn't been able to forget her. When he finds out she's pregnant he knows that he must be a part of her life. He is willing to do whatever is necessary to get her to marry him, except to give her his heart.
I really liked Sarah. She is independent and self reliant. I loved seeing her step out of her comfort zone that night and go after what she wanted - Gabe. Though she tries to tell herself that she not going to hold out for love, there is an instant connection with him and she can't help picturing a real relationship with him. When he disappears the next day, she forces herself to move on without him. When she discovers she's pregnant, she attempts to find out who he is and contact him, but is unable to do so. When he shows up unexpectedly, she is furious that it only appears to be because of the baby. She has to decide if she can marry him knowing that he doesn't love her. I really loved seeing her try to hold strong against his intentions while he tries to convince her that what they have is enough.
I liked Gabe's protectiveness, which was evident even when he was trying to stay away from her. He also couldn't get her off his mind, much to his dismay. Even so, when he found out about her pregnancy, he was quite happy for the excuse to break his engagement and plan to marry Sarah instead. It was equally amusing and frustrating to see him try to convince himself that all he felt for her was lust. I loved the way that he finally saw the truth, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing him in action as he tried to win her back. -
This is a new author for me. The author did a great job developing the two main characters. The storyline was also well developed. Great job to Fiona Brand.

3.5 Simple and beautiful history!

I read a rave review and decided to read it courtesy of Mills and Boon’s we love romance app. Thanks goodness, because I would have been so annoyed if I’d paid good money for it.
This was boringly predictable and lacked angst and drama and even the sex scenes were pretty tepid.
I hated the fact that Gabe just flew back, got engaged and left the heroine back in New Zealand, unable to contact him if she needed to.
I loved the scene where the heroine confronted the ex-fiancée. Then I was disgusted when she ran away instead of confronting Gabe about the file etc.
Sorry but this was left me cold. -
1.5*. Can't fault the writing or even the plot line, I was just bored silly and skimmed a lot of it after 20% or so.

Not only was the chemistry between the protagonists amazing, but the fact that both of them gave up other romantic ventures to be together was a nice twist. The thing that I liked best was that the protagonists had such an interesting family back story. I love how quickly Gabe stepped up to care for Sarah after their short lived affair, despite the fact that he was about to enter into an arranged marriage. While Sarah was open to raising her child alone, she gave up living in her home country of New Zealand to raise her child with Gabe in Zahir. I loved learning more about not only Gabe and Sarah but of Kadin and Camille as well. The parallels between the stories provided a get plot twist as the book went on. Great book for the summer!

A brilliant read and a story well told.

Although the sheikh of contemporary romance may be a 21st-century ruler, his country is still steeped (mired?) in the traditions of the past. Apparently, one of them is that he mustn’t marry a foreign American woman. That’s because all Westerners are decadent heathens and infidels, right?
Okay, I may be projecting. I haven’t seen that written anywhere in any of the modern Harlequin romances I’ve read. But I have to wonder at the urgency of men who have a one-night stand with a woman, jet off into the sunset and only return and demand marriage when they find out their American lovely is pregnant. It basically states, “There is no way a man born into royalty would marry a woman like that unless she were expecting his child.” What other message can be inferred? Cinderella’s dream come true, this isn’t.
So we get another entry into this shotgun-wedding trope. This one has some unexpected additions. It turns out Sheikh Kadin Gabriel ben Kadir’s intended fiancée wasn’t the pure virgin she was supposed to be. She’s been seen keeping company with an Italian count. But his one-night fling, Sarah Duval WAS a virgin when he slept with her, making her a perfect substitute.
Sarah herself is a dreamer, a throwback to a bygone age when women saved themselves for the wedding night. But her demands of no nooky before marriage left her with three wrecked relationships. So she tosses her ideals out the window to sleep with a man she’s known for less than an hour. In real life, she’d be lucky to avoid getting murdered. But, hey, this is a fantasy so naturally she falls for him, he falls for her…and abandons her to marry his intended.
Sarah’s got entanglements of her own in the form of a pushy ex-boyfriend who only stuck with her to get his hands on some famous jewels. His on-again, off-again appearances are so lackluster and unconvincing he might as well not be in the novel at all.
I expect more from 21st-century romances that are only Regency romances thinly cloaked. Let’s face it, ladies. We deserve better than this. -
Sara's tired of being boring, so she makes up her mind to seduce the man of her dreams once she meets him. And she does in fact meet Gabe, who truly is the man of her dreams, but she doesn't know that he's a sheikh who is about to enter into a marriage of convenience and is looking for one last night of freedom. So, even though she knows he's leaving, she's hurt that he doesn't get in touch. She's even more hurt when, after learning that she's pregnant, she realizes he made it impossible for her to find him. But he discovers her pregnancy and seeks her out, admitting that things have changed and now she has to marry him...right after he terminates his current betrothal. Then, they'll enter into a marriage of convenience, since Gabe doesn't do love, no matter how much he wants Sara.
This was a pretty decent read. I enjoyed the characters, I liked that there wasn't any hymen ridiculousness and that while there was angst, there wasn't any melodrama. Sara was a very level-headed (although pregnancy does make her a bit emotional at times) and independent woman without reaching the limits of being too stubborn for her own good. I do think she was a little quick to forgive Gabe for abandoning her the first time. IMHO there was so not enough anger and not enough focus on the fact that, if she hadn't been pregnant, Sara would have NEVER seen Gabe again. That was something that totally needed to be resolved, because otherwise, he returned for the baby not her. Although one could say it was the excuse he needed to return to her, but it didn't receive enough focus either way.
This story is a little low on the steam factor. The two have plenty of sex, but after the first two encounters, it's primarily fade to black and what scenes there are are decidedly lacking in foreplay and are over pretty quickly. I forget if that's standard for HQN Desire series. -

Love at first sight...

"Wonderfully written, this is a surprising romance about risking your heart and taking a chance" (RT Book Reviews,4 stars).
-
The characters made me smile occasionally but in the end the heroine came across as weakly written and I didn't enjoy her characterization in the end.
