  I did not enjoy this book as much as I would have liked to. So much happened, but some of it did not seem important to the story, while a lot of other things seemed drawn out. There were a lot of teaching and history moments, that while good, were too frequent and seemed to go on for way too long. I found myself ready to stop reading at more than a few points, but continued on anyway. This was not a bad read, but it was sort of lackluster in my opinion and was not what I thought I was getting myself into when I selected it.

  A really good book for young men (teenagers to early 20's) to read.
  The young man in the book matured through life and he shared with others what he had learned.
  I wish i could see that in real life these days. Maybe i am not in a place to see it, but i hope it is happening out there in world. God Bless..

  First book reviewed of the new year-yay 2013 reading however...I was a little underwhelmed but maybe I just expected too much after hearing about this book for years and looking for another urban masterpiece and I admit I waited then dove in...Okay so here is the telling of a young man and his descent into the underworld of the streets, the crack game, girls, prison and alot of plots, plans, conspiracies and drama..I cant say I really enjoyed the way the book was written as certain parts were written in detail while others were glossed over, I felt there were alot of side plots and names and backstories that were irrelevant and kinda confusing. There were flashes of brilliance and I did love the conscicous teachings and glimpses of the discipline and respect of the religion of Islam but like I said there were too many jumbled plotlines to follow and not enough depth to any character including the main one. I feel like the book could have been longer, and stronger with a few more detail on the characters but I did enjoy this book for the most part..Recommended to men as I truly think this book was written to a male point of view and with the outcome being an ambitious, educated and productive member of society I think all men should read it as it is somewhat on the lines of Nathan McCall's Makes Me Wanna Holla with its chronicle and cautionary tale of the tragedy awaiting those too deep in the wrong doings and the shady drug game.
