Splat the Cat: I Scream for Ice Cream (I Can Read Level 1) Reviews

  • Jasmine from How Useful It Is

Read for my daughter’s bedtime. Splat the Cat and his fellow cats are going to an ice cream factory. He thought he will eat a lot of ice cream when he gets there but instead the tour guy talks on and on about the freezer. His eyes glazed over and his head droopy listening. He began to daydream..

    Read from kindle unlimited.

    Easy read for kindergartener

Great and easy read for a kindergartener. My son enjoyed it and enjoyed the sweet story that was told. It also made him want ice cream, so I guess that’s one small negative.

My son and I read this together and I felt that this could have been a level 2 book more so than a level 1 as labeled. Level one is geared more towards kids that are coming out of a Jane and Dick book. A lot more complicated words.

Everyone is excited for the field trip to the ice cream factory. But when the first part of the tour is super boring, Splat accidentally causes a huge mess and everyone must pitch in to help clean up.

Splat the Cat readers can be a bit zany because they are a teensy bit more worried about introducing a certain phonics concept than the plot. This one is quite crazy but still manages to have a plot that makes sense. The phonics emphasis is on the long e sound produced by different vowel blends. It'd be best to read this only with ice cream on hand or you may have problems.

There is no way this is a level one reader. My granddaughter is a level one reader and not only was this book too long, but the structure was WAY above her reading level and she is a fantastic little reader.

Splat the Cat is taking on a new adventure in this transition picture book! He is on his way to get himself some ice cream through this silly book.

I have read a splat the cat book before and didn't really care for it but I thought I would give this one a try anyway! I ended up not really caring for it that much but I am sure some kids might still enjoy it.

I don;t think I would use this as a big lesson in my class but I could use it when I pull students up to practice reading or pull some sight words from it.

Ben did not want to read this book. I told him that picture books don't take very long and that you should try them before you decide what to do with them. So we read it, he enjoyed it, but then he decided it goes on the garage sale this summer. Fine by me.

    A true child's mystery!

Read this to my 33 year old girlfriend & she was overtaken with joy. Then someone goes missing & her joy turned to worry. By the end we just wanted ice cream. Now I'm proud of myself for reading tonight.

An easy read for young children about some mischief from Splat’s class on a field trip to the ice cream factory.

My youngest loves Splat. These are sweet and enjoyable books that are easy to read. What’s not to like? 😁

Adorable & Perfectly Balanced Between Easy and Challenging For Young Readers

As a child, I loved books like this one: the kind with engaging visuals and simple sentences which introduced a few challenging words I could feel proud of myself for learning with parental assistance (or, sometimes, on my own). I feel like they strike an important balance which aids education and fosters a love for reading.

In this particular book, there's a fun story about cats who want to eat a ton of ice cream and realize in an amusing adventure that perhaps they should he careful what they wish for. It's zany and cute and kind of like a cartoon. I definitely would recommend this for youngsters who love reading.

Splat and friends visit the ice cream factory in this shaky allegory for the dangers of communism. The cats are first bored with the intricacies of labor; they view Mr Jellybean as a bore, an obstacle to their unfettered access to capital. When Splat “accidentally” spills all the ice cream, the cats seize the means of production and eat all of the ice cream.

Anti-proletariat propaganda, suggesting that such a revolution will only yield tummy aches. “Revolt and suffer,” the book warns. If your kids feast on a balanced diet of Cheerios, fruit snacks, and the rich, keep them away from this book.

Also, why are the cats friends with a mouse?

🎵 We All Scream For I've Cream 🎵

Splat the 🐱 was happy. The school field trip was to the I🍦 factory. Mr. Jellybean, the Plant Manager, greeted them and asked the class if they wanted a tour. While listening to his speech, Splat leaned against a red button. Alarms blared. What did he do? You get to read/listen to find out!! 📚 Happy Reading 📚

Fun but Too Hard for 6-Year-Old

My son really enjoys Splat the Cat books, and when he saw this one, he really wanted to read it. His reading level has increased, and he has been able to read other level one books, but this one was very difficult for him. There were too many words he hadn’t seen or couldn’t pronounce. We will continue to practice it.

    Great.

This was a fun story to read with my daughter. She loves the fact that they ate all the ice cream. The words are simple but still a little bit of a challenge for her grade level.

    Wonderful reading

My 4-yr old grandkid read and enjoyed this book a lot. We loved the colors and the characters and the ice cream. I especially enjoyed that as soon as we turned the pages, she would try to imagine the storyline. Loved it!
