A Little More Dead (A Little More Dead #1) Reviews

There were a lot of things that I really liked about this book. The whole smart zombies concept is absolutely terrifying. Also the bigger the zombie the faster and stronger they are was another scary thought. Mostly because in all other zombie scenarios they're decomposing so they are small, skinny and fragile, not fat killing machines.
Paul, Sophia, and Dan are trying to make it to the Gulf of Mexico from Iowa which sounds easy, except for all of the zombies. They meet up with Wendy in Kansas living all alone in a strip club and she joins this crew of amateur survivalists. They run into a lot of zombies that have learned how to hide and wait for their targets making matters more difficult. Will they all be able to make it to the sandy beach house they are dreaming of?
Okay so I liked the idea of the zombies evolving, if that's a good way of putting it. It is scary to think about though, I prefer the dopey, mindless things in The Walking Dead. It made clearing out a house more difficult but they really should have checked every single room before browsing around a grocery store or going to sleep. Yes every single rooms includes attics, I did care how tired I am my ass is checking the attic during the apocalypse I liked that the different sizes of the zombies meant different speeds and strength - it made things more interesting.
I didn't really like Paul throughout the books entirety. At the beginning he was wrestling with something he did before the virus spread. In my opinion whatever happened pre-apocalypse days doesn't matter anymore. He also dwelled so much on everything- he needed to grow a pair. Then he turned into an ass, yes I understand why but that doesn't make it any better. He was especially mean to Wendy who didn't deserve it. Speaking of Wendy, she needed to be punched in the mouth. Maybe then she would keep it shut and stop screaming so much. Dan was my favorite. He was more carefree and lightened most situations.
There were a few things that this book brought to light that I never thought about before. Like how much having IBS would suck with no plumbing. Poor Dan. He brought a lot of humor to this book that was desperately needed because without it this book would be a real downer. Excuse me, more of a downer than it already was. Also, how little a promise means during the end of the world. They said "I promise" multiple times and it annoyed me because nothing is promised. Especially when zombies are around.
This book did kind of seem to drag on and some chapters seemed kind of pointless. I felt like I was reading forever and it made me get annoyed and not want to read it anymore. Thankfully, I kept reading though because I wanted to make it to the end.

Smarter Zombies, scary concept!
Here we find the Zombies not only smarter but with enhanced physical attributes! If you are a walking dead, here it pays to be overweight, you would be not only faster but stronger also! I guess I would be an awesome specimen at 6'4" & 300lbs ! Book was well written, a bit gloomy for us living as there are very few left, I hope to see a book #2! I will keep checking here. -
WINNER
I can't wait to sink my teeth into book 2 of The Dead Series! I've read lots of zombie novels and this one stands out from most of the rest! The unique storyline, steady stream of adventure and action, meaty characters and twists make for a zombie series par excellence!! -
This book was just ok, almost like a small McDonalds cheeseburger compared to a Five Guys burger! Cheesy….cheesy…is the main thought in my head. I say this because it really could have been so much better; this book had so much potential and some really good supporting characters. However, the supporting characters were easily killed off and hardly had any page time. Why would you kill them off? I am still trying to figure this out. The plot is predictable just like most zombie books and the main character Paul is very one dimensional (only attracted to other women). I will say this there is one good thing about this zombie book and it is that the zombies hunt in a pack likes nature. That fact alone could make some reads continue on with this series. But me, I just can’t do it and what really took the cake was the fact that Paul and Wendy (the stripper) survived when all the other characters were killed off. The author tries to make Wendy into something that she isn’t, she isn’t GI Jane and I think that her main goal is to just sleep with Paul! Too many segments are focused on the attraction between Paul and Wendy. Paul’s wife Sophie isn’t too long eaten by the zombies and he is attracted to Wendy. This could have been a little more tasteful but unfortunately it seems like Paul never loved his wife. Also, Paul hasn’t given a second thought to his best friend Dan who was killed just like his wife. The action in this book is quick and does flow well but this book is defiantly missing something.

This book had me holding my breath several times as the characters found themselves in life or death situations. I was kind of impressed with the way this author wasn't afraid to kill off characters, and generally cause mayhem every time you think they might be safe- it's brutal!
I liked this book from the start, but the writing really seemed to find its groove half way through, and by the end I was completely hooked.
I was on Amazon downloading the sequel within 2 minutes of finishing.
This author has a great writing style and a gifted way with words. I found myself stopping at certain parts and thinking, man, I really like the way he worded/ described that! I can't wait to find out what happens in book 2. -
I gave up at 36%. I was bored. I also really don't like characters who are any of the following: weak, whining, self loathing, who "freeze" in critical situations, and are generally stupid. I felt like everyone in this book was at least one of those at some point in the measly 36% that I read, which Paul being all of the above throughout. Sophia was a pain in the ass too. At least she could shoot when necessary, I will give her that. Basically, boring and character not likable so I didn't waste any more time.

I understand that there are very good reasons for Paul to be as miserable of a character as he is. He feels guilty for things pre-outbreak, he suffers tragedy post-outbreak, and he puts all of the blame on himself. They're realistic reactions to those situations too, so it feels wrong to have an issue with that. But when the focal character spends 2/3 of the book just being miserable and rotten and snapping at his friends and companions, who are going through the same things, it makes for a rough read.

I received this book in return for an honest review.
Will write proper review when I have finished the book.

Dark but interesting.
Will we ever know how the pandemic started? Will Cora be saved? What is next for these characters. Good job. -
Holy crap that is an awesome book. It made me nervous a lot of times. Good gore and action and a lot of zombies.

This book is more like 2.5 Stars. Ugh, if I have to listen to Paul pine over his dead wife one more time, I will scream!!!! They are literally running for their lives, and he's wondering what Sophia would be doing if she was with them. When they ate steak, he wondered what he favorite restaurant was. When driving down the highway, he wondered if she would like the views. Because of this, it was VERY difficult to continue the second half of this book. All the flashbacks, and the visions of her talking to him, got real OLD, REAL FAST.
I wish Brock and his wife would've lasted longer in the book. I really liked their characters. They were like breath of fresh air after listening to all of Pauls' whining. Additionally, I'd have rather have horny Dan survived, than Paul and that annoying ass Wendy. At times I wish she would just Shut Up and stop asking so many questions!!!
I did like how the zombies seemed to evolve, and was hoping for the demise of Wendy and Paul so I can move on to book 2 with more advanced zombies. Unfortunately, that was not the case. So this is where reviews of this series end. -
Better than usual undead fare, loses in the smartness department
Not a bad story. Pretty well told, but should a zombie plague hit your planet, nod NOT associate with any of the people in this book. Simple things like fishing line alarms, mounting guard at night or reinforcing your doors and windows (all of them) don't seem to be too important to them. Also, I am sure there is a lake around de Moine to test the theory that a beachfront home is easier to defend. It's really not unless you are on the actual water.
Anyway, smarter than your average apocalypse flick, better written too but still not 4 star material. -
I'm a huge fan of this genre, and with well over a hundred read of this type, I can say I certainly wasn't disappointed.
No well-honed military types here, just regular folks barely scraping by in a deadly world. I like that the main character, Paul, keeps counting his "lucky breaks," which are minor in the face of the many obstacles he encounters. -
Nice zombie novel
Doesn't go too much into how it all started. Characters lack depth. Action is average but author has done a good job of showing how average people will deal with SHTF stuff. -
Enjoyed this one!!
Really great book! I loves that the characters weren't automatically experts at killing the zombies like they magically are in other books. Excited the read the next one! -
Too much grief
Spent too much time on Paul's grief over his wife. I can understand him grieving, but too many pages focused on him thinking about his wife. Otherwise a pretty good story. -
Fantastic
Sean you are a genius. This book was phenomenal and I have read many. It has me wanting more!!!!! I hope book two is written as well and powerful as this is. -
This book was a great read
