It was only a mannequin, just a lifeless, albeit life-sized, figurine. So what if it looked like Emily? So what if it had been replaced by another ornamental creature? Emily gazed at the fake women in front of her and mentally compared them with the previous mannequins. They were obviously created with newer moulds, which produced sharper, more realistic features, not to mention more pliable limbs. She noted their wigs, which looked even nicer than her own real hair, and, of course, much more fastidious than the wigs worn by the older mannequins. (Excerpt from the short story)
