A Tree of Thorns by Annetta Miller

More than sixty thousand street children live in Nairobi. They are branded “chokora,” or scavengers, and are often seen with sacks slung over their shoulders, searching through dustbins. In Nairobi, more than 250 organizations offer services to street children. Annetta Miller, who has lived and worked in Nairobi since 1974, helped out at a drop-in center in the Westlands suburb. This book of vignettes emerged from her experiences there.
